Posao liječniku Teneu iz Kameruna nije bio jednostavan ni prije korone. Međutim, sada mu je puno teže.

„Ljudi više ne žele dolaziti u bolnicu", žali se u intervjuu DW-u.

Više od polovice inficiranih HIV-om, koji su pod terapijom, zbog straha od korone ne dolaze na redovne kontrole. „Mi im ne možemo više propisivati lijekove i savjetovati ih kako da se zaštite", kaže Tene.

Kada dođu bude kasno...

Osobe inficirane virusom HIV uz upotrebu lijekova mogu živjeti i desetljećima, a da pri tom ne dobiju sidu (AIDS). Ali, bez lijekove prijete fatalne posljedice.

Teneova kolegica iz Južnoafričke Republike Zolelva Sifumba gleda to svaki dan. „Mnogi nam ljudi ne dolaze više na kontrolu. Kada dođu bude kasno i umiru", kaže Sifumba, koja se u provinciji Zulu-Natal brine o zaraženima virusom HIV.

Pri tom se situacija posljednjih godina u istočnoj i jugoistočnoj Africi poboljšala. Ova regija je dugo godina slovila kao globalni epicentar zaraze, ali to je prošlost.

Organizacija Ujedinjenih naroda UNAIDS je 2008. objavila da je stopa novih zaraza za šest godina opala za trećinu. Broj smrtnih slučajeva se smanjio za čak 40 posto.

Ali, AIDS ipak neće biti iskorijenjen do 2030. kako je bilo planirano. „Epidemija koronavirusa nas još više udaljava od našeg cilja", kaže Vini Bijanjima direktorica UNAIDS.

A koliko su daleko od cilja izračunali su njeni eksperti: zbog djelovanja pandemije koronavirusa na globalnom nivou bi se moglo dodatno virusom HIV-a zaraziti 290.000 ljudi, a više od 148.000 umrijeti od posljedica infekcije HIV-om.

Ali, nije to samo zbog toga što zaraženi virusom HIV strahuju od odlaska u bolnice. „Podaci pokazuju da se povećalo nasilje nad ženama i djevojčicama, dok su škole bile zatvorene.

Sekusalno nasilje je najvažniji razlog novih infekcija, posebno u Africi", kaže Bjanjima. Otkako je izbila pandemija korone sve je manje ljudi koji se testiraju na HIV. Trudnice također. A time je povećan rizik da se inficiraju i njihove nerođene bebe.

Istovremeno korona vrši pritisak na zdravstvene sustave u Africi. Još od samog početka pandemije u mnogim zemljama nedostaje liječnika i drugog medicinskog osoblja.

Oni ne moraju samo liječiti oboljele od AIDS-a već i pacijente zaražene Covidom-19. Samim tim su i oni sami u velikoj opasnosti od zaraze.

„Zbog nedostatka zaštitnog materijala za prevenciju zaraze, mnogi zdravstveni radnici su se zarazili i umrli, zbog čega se nedostatak medicinara samo dodatno povećava", kaže južnoafrička liječnica Sifumba.

Afrički aktivisti u borbi protiv side strahuju od još jedne posljedice pandemije Covida-19. „Dobijamo manje financijske podrške", kaže Ava Fani iz HIV programa Baptističke crkve u Kamerunu za DW.

„Donatori se sada više koncentriraju na koronu. Pitamo se kako iskoristiti resurse da se brinemo i za HIV pozitivnu djecu i za pacijente oboljele od korone."

Oblik terapije koja koristi tri lijeka, zvana trojna terapija, odnosno visokoaktivna antiretrovirusna terapija (HAART, od engl. Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy), pomaže ljudima s AIDS-om da žive puno dulje nego prije.

Stručnjaci kažu da osobe kojima se brzo ustanovi zaraza HIV-om, te krenu s liječenjem, će doživjeti normalnu starost jer će se bolest staviti pod kontrolu. Dakle, testirajte se, posebno oni s rizičnim kontaktima. 

Što je HIV?

Osobe kojima je dijagnosticirana HIV-infekcija se još nazivaju i "HIV-pozitivne", što znači da učinjene pretrage krvi pokazuju prisutnost tipa 1 (HIV-1) virusa koji je najčešći u Europi i SAD-u, ili tipa 2 (HIV-2) virusa, piše PLIVA zdravlje. 

Oba tipa virusa mogu uzrokovati kroničnu bolest - AIDS. Akutna HIV-infekcija može, ali ne mora nužno napredovati preko simptomatske HIV-infekcije do uznapredovale bolesti, odnosno AIDS-a.

Studija koja je obuhvatila osobe zaražene HIV-om između 1977. i 1980. godine, pokazuje kako danas neki ispitanici nemaju uopće simptoma, a kod nekih je prisutno jedino povećanje limfnih čvorova (generalizirana limfadenopatija). To znači da se neće kod svih osoba zaraženih HIV-om razviti AIDS.

Što je AIDS?

AIDS onemogućava ispravno funkcioniranje imunološkog sustava - prirodne obrane organizma od infekcija. Bolest ga čini neučinkovitim i tijelo se sve teže brani od raznih infekcija. Definicija AIDS-a uključuje sve HIV-pozitivne osobe koji u krvi imaju manje od 200 T4-stanica (zdravi odrasli obično imaju 1000 i više T4-stanica).

T4-stanice su vrsta limfocita koji su ključni u proizvodnji protutijela koja se bore protiv infekcija, a HIV naseljava i uništava ove stanice. Također, definicija uključuje 26 kliničkih stanja koje pogađaju ljude s uznapredovalom HIV-infekcijom. Većina tih stanja obuhvaća razvoj tumora i oportunističkih infekcija (infekcije koje se kod zdravih ljudi vjerojatno ne bi nikad razvile).

Te infekcije su osobito opasne kod ovih bolesnika, jer je njihov imunološki sustav ozbiljno oštećen djelovanjem HIV-a i ne može se boriti protiv određenih vrsta bakterija, virusa i ostalih mikroba.

Više od polovice inficiranih HIV-om, koji su pod terapijom, zbog straha od korone ne dolaze na redovne kontrole. „Mi im ne možemo više propisivati lijekove i savjetovati ih kako da se zaštite", kaže Tene.

Kada dođu bude kasno...

Osobe inficirane virusom HIV uz upotrebu lijekova mogu živjeti i desetljećima, a da pri tom ne dobiju sidu (AIDS). Ali, bez lijekove prijete fatalne posljedice.

Teneova kolegica iz Južnoafričke Republike Zolelva Sifumba gleda to svaki dan. „Mnogi nam ljudi ne dolaze više na kontrolu. Kada dođu bude kasno i umiru", kaže Sifumba, koja se u provinciji Zulu-Natal brine o zaraženima virusom HIV.

Pri tom se situacija posljednjih godina u istočnoj i jugoistočnoj Africi poboljšala. Ova regija je dugo godina slovila kao globalni epicentar zaraze, ali to je prošlost.

Organizacija Ujedinjenih naroda UNAIDS je 2008. objavila da je stopa novih zaraza za šest godina opala za trećinu. Broj smrtnih slučajeva se smanjio za čak 40 posto.

Ali, AIDS ipak neće biti iskorijenjen do 2030. kako je bilo planirano. „Epidemija koronavirusa nas još više udaljava od našeg cilja", kaže Vini Bijanjima direktorica UNAIDS.

A koliko su daleko od cilja izračunali su njeni eksperti: zbog djelovanja pandemije koronavirusa na globalnom nivou bi se moglo dodatno virusom HIV-a zaraziti 290.000 ljudi, a više od 148.000 umrijeti od posljedica infekcije HIV-om.

Ali, nije to samo zbog toga što zaraženi virusom HIV strahuju od odlaska u bolnice. „Podaci pokazuju da se povećalo nasilje nad ženama i djevojčicama, dok su škole bile zatvorene.

Sekusalno nasilje je najvažniji razlog novih infekcija, posebno u Africi", kaže Bjanjima. Otkako je izbila pandemija korone sve je manje ljudi koji se testiraju na HIV. Trudnice također. A time je povećan rizik da se inficiraju i njihove nerođene bebe.

Istovremeno korona vrši pritisak na zdravstvene sustave u Africi. Još od samog početka pandemije u mnogim zemljama nedostaje liječnika i drugog medicinskog osoblja.

Oni ne moraju samo liječiti oboljele od AIDS-a već i pacijente zaražene Covidom-19. Samim tim su i oni sami u velikoj opasnosti od zaraze.

„Zbog nedostatka zaštitnog materijala za prevenciju zaraze, mnogi zdravstveni radnici su se zarazili i umrli, zbog čega se nedostatak medicinara samo dodatno povećava", kaže južnoafrička liječnica Sifumba.

Afrički aktivisti u borbi protiv side strahuju od još jedne posljedice pandemije Covida-19. „Dobijamo manje financijske podrške", kaže Ava Fani iz HIV programa Baptističke crkve u Kamerunu za DW.

„Donatori se sada više koncentriraju na koronu. Pitamo se kako iskoristiti resurse da se brinemo i za HIV pozitivnu djecu i za pacijente oboljele od korone."

Oblik terapije koja koristi tri lijeka, zvana trojna terapija, odnosno visokoaktivna antiretrovirusna terapija (HAART, od engl. Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy), pomaže ljudima s AIDS-om da žive puno dulje nego prije.

Stručnjaci kažu da osobe kojima se brzo ustanovi zaraza HIV-om, te krenu s liječenjem, će doživjeti normalnu starost jer će se bolest staviti pod kontrolu. Dakle, testirajte se, posebno oni s rizičnim kontaktima. 

Što je HIV?

Osobe kojima je dijagnosticirana HIV-infekcija se još nazivaju i "HIV-pozitivne", što znači da učinjene pretrage krvi pokazuju prisutnost tipa 1 (HIV-1) virusa koji je najčešći u Europi i SAD-u, ili tipa 2 (HIV-2) virusa, piše PLIVA zdravlje. 

Oba tipa virusa mogu uzrokovati kroničnu bolest - AIDS. Akutna HIV-infekcija može, ali ne mora nužno napredovati preko simptomatske HIV-infekcije do uznapredovale bolesti, odnosno AIDS-a.

Studija koja je obuhvatila osobe zaražene HIV-om između 1977. i 1980. godine, pokazuje kako danas neki ispitanici nemaju uopće simptoma, a kod nekih je prisutno jedino povećanje limfnih čvorova (generalizirana limfadenopatija). To znači da se neće kod svih osoba zaraženih HIV-om razviti AIDS.

Što je AIDS?

AIDS onemogućava ispravno funkcioniranje imunološkog sustava - prirodne obrane organizma od infekcija. Bolest ga čini neučinkovitim i tijelo se sve teže brani od raznih infekcija. Definicija AIDS-a uključuje sve HIV-pozitivne osobe koji u krvi imaju manje od 200 T4-stanica (zdravi odrasli obično imaju 1000 i više T4-stanica).

T4-stanice su vrsta limfocita koji su ključni u proizvodnji protutijela koja se bore protiv infekcija, a HIV naseljava i uništava ove stanice. Također, definicija uključuje 26 kliničkih stanja koje pogađaju ljude s uznapredovalom HIV-infekcijom. Većina tih stanja obuhvaća razvoj tumora i oportunističkih infekcija (infekcije koje se kod zdravih ljudi vjerojatno ne bi nikad razvile).

Te infekcije su osobito opasne kod ovih bolesnika, jer je njihov imunološki sustav ozbiljno oštećen djelovanjem HIV-a i ne može se boriti protiv određenih vrsta bakterija, virusa i ostalih mikroba.
