Današnja virtualna konferencija vezana za krizu u Jemenu u organizaciji Ujedinjenih naroda je pozvala na prikupljanje 4,27 milijardi dolara za ublažavanje onoga što ovo tijelo opisuje kao najgoru humanitarnu krizu na svijetu. Konferencija se održava u trenutku kada UN izražava strah ne samo da bi globalna pozornost na Ukrajinu usred ruske invazije mogla pogoršati već postojeće nedostatke u financiranju, već i da bi rat u Europi mogao produbiti krizu gladi u Jemenu.

Jemen je u vihoru rata od 2014., kada su pobunjenici Huti koje podržava Iran zauzeli glavni grad Sanu i dijelove teritorija na sjeveru zemlje. Sukob je postao intenzivniji nakon što je koalicija koju predvode Saudijska Arabija uz podršku SAD-a intervenirala u pokušaju da porazi Hute i obnovi međunarodno priznatu vladu. Rat se od tada razvio u regionalni sukob, pri čemu Saudijska Arabija nastoji zaustaviti ono što vidi kao pokušaj svog glavnog rivala, Irana, da dobije uporište u regiji. Ubijeno je više od 150.000 ljudi, uključujući više od 14.500 civila.

Milijuni također pate od nestašice hrane i medicinske skrbi usred sukoba, dok je 4,3 milijuna protjerano iz svojih domova, prema Uredu UN-a za koordinaciju humanitarnih poslova (OCHA). Svjetski program za hranu upozorio je u ponedjeljak da bi moglo doći do masovne gladi ako se ne pruži značajna nova financijska pomoć. OCHA kaže da se očekuje da će se 19 milijuna ljudi suočiti s akutnom nesigurnošću hrane do druge polovice godine. Od njih će 161.000 vjerojatno doživjeti glad, navodi se.

Osim što skreće pozornost s krize u Jemenu, sukob u Ukrajini prijeti pogoršanjem humanitarne situacije u arapskoj naciji, jer 22 posto pšenice u zemlji dolazi iz Ukrajine i Rusije. "Ukrajinska kriza također bi mogla dramatično utjecati na pristup Jemenaca hrani", rekla je Erin Hutchinson, jemenska direktorica u Norveškom vijeću za izbjeglice. "Nadamo se da će Jemenci pronaći istu razinu podrške i solidarnosti kakvu smo vidjeli s narodom Ukrajine."

UN se nada da će konferencija, čiji su domaćini Švedska i Švicarska, prikupiti 4,27 milijardi dolara kako bi se omogućila pomoć za 17,3 milijuna ljudi od 23,4 milijuna kojima je pomoć potrebna. Prošlogodišnja konferencija prikupila je samo oko 1,7 milijardi dolara od 3,85 milijardi koliko je UN tražio, a globalna gospodarstva su u to vrijeme teško pogođena pandemijom koronavirusa i njezinim posljedicama, prenosi Deutsche Welle.

Današnja virtualna konferencija vezana za krizu u Jemenu u organizaciji Ujedinjenih naroda je pozvala na prikupljanje 4,27 milijardi dolara za ublažavanje onoga što ovo tijelo opisuje kao najgoru humanitarnu krizu na svijetu. Konferencija se održava u trenutku kada UN izražava strah ne samo da bi globalna pozornost na Ukrajinu usred ruske invazije mogla pogoršati već postojeće nedostatke u financiranju, već i da bi rat u Europi mogao produbiti krizu gladi u Jemenu.

Jemen je u vihoru rata od 2014., kada su pobunjenici Huti koje podržava Iran zauzeli glavni grad Sanu i dijelove teritorija na sjeveru zemlje. Sukob je postao intenzivniji nakon što je koalicija koju predvode Saudijska Arabija uz podršku SAD-a intervenirala u pokušaju da porazi Hute i obnovi međunarodno priznatu vladu. Rat se od tada razvio u regionalni sukob, pri čemu Saudijska Arabija nastoji zaustaviti ono što vidi kao pokušaj svog glavnog rivala, Irana, da dobije uporište u regiji. Ubijeno je više od 150.000 ljudi, uključujući više od 14.500 civila.

Milijuni također pate od nestašice hrane i medicinske skrbi usred sukoba, dok je 4,3 milijuna protjerano iz svojih domova, prema Uredu UN-a za koordinaciju humanitarnih poslova (OCHA). Svjetski program za hranu upozorio je u ponedjeljak da bi moglo doći do masovne gladi ako se ne pruži značajna nova financijska pomoć. OCHA kaže da se očekuje da će se 19 milijuna ljudi suočiti s akutnom nesigurnošću hrane do druge polovice godine. Od njih će 161.000 vjerojatno doživjeti glad, navodi se.

Osim što skreće pozornost s krize u Jemenu, sukob u Ukrajini prijeti pogoršanjem humanitarne situacije u arapskoj naciji, jer 22 posto pšenice u zemlji dolazi iz Ukrajine i Rusije. "Ukrajinska kriza također bi mogla dramatično utjecati na pristup Jemenaca hrani", rekla je Erin Hutchinson, jemenska direktorica u Norveškom vijeću za izbjeglice. "Nadamo se da će Jemenci pronaći istu razinu podrške i solidarnosti kakvu smo vidjeli s narodom Ukrajine."

UN se nada da će konferencija, čiji su domaćini Švedska i Švicarska, prikupiti 4,27 milijardi dolara kako bi se omogućila pomoć za 17,3 milijuna ljudi od 23,4 milijuna kojima je pomoć potrebna. Današnja virtualna konferencija vezana za krizu u Jemenu u organizaciji Ujedinjenih naroda je pozvala na prikupljanje 4,27 milijardi dolara za ublažavanje onoga što ovo tijelo opisuje kao najgoru humanitarnu krizu na svijetu. Konferencija se održava u trenutku kada UN izražava strah ne samo da bi globalna pozornost na Ukrajinu usred ruske invazije mogla pogoršati već postojeće nedostatke u financiranju, već i da bi rat u Europi mogao produbiti krizu gladi u Jemenu.

Jemen je u vihoru rata od 2014., kada su pobunjenici Huti koje podržava Iran zauzeli glavni grad Sanu i dijelove teritorija na sjeveru zemlje. Sukob je postao intenzivniji nakon što je koalicija koju predvode Saudijska Arabija uz podršku SAD-a intervenirala u pokušaju da porazi Hute i obnovi međunarodno...
