Mutacija novog koronavirusa koji je sve češći u Europi, a nedavno je otkriven i u Maleziji vjerojatno je zaraznija, no čini se i manje smrtonosna, smatra Paul Tambyah, ugledni singapurski liječnik, specijalist za zarazne bolesti.

Tambyah je viši savjetnik Nacionalnog sveučilišta u Singapuru i predsjednik Međunarodnog društva za zarazne bolesti sa sjedištem u Sjedinjenim Državama te kaže da je mutacija D614G otkrivena i u Singapuru.

Liječnik je rekao kako postoje dokazi po kojima se širenje mutacije D614G u Europi poklopilo s padom stope smrtnosti, što bi, po njegovu mišljenju moglo ukazivati na to da je ona manje smrtonosna.

Dodaje da mutacija vjerojatno neće utjecati na djelotvornost potencijalnog cjepiva, unatoč suprotnim upozorenjima nekih zdravstvenih stručnjaka.

"Možda je dobra stvar da je virus zarazniji, no istodobno manje smrtonosan", rekao je Tambyah za Reuters uz objašnjenje da većina virusa obično postaje manje virulentna nakon što mutira.

"U 'interesu' virusa je zaraziti što više ljudi, ali ne ih i ubiti, jer virus ovisi o svojem 'domaćinu' na čije se stanice pričvršćuje. S obzirom na to da sami nemaju stanične dijelove, u potpunosti ovise o mehanizmu stvaranja energije i bjelančevina stanica domaćina", rekao je.

Znanstvenici su mutaciju otkrili još u veljači, kada je, po podacima Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije kružila Europom i Amerikom. WHO je izvijestio i da nema dokaza po kojima je mutacija rezultirala težim oblikom bolesti.

U nedjelju je malezijski glavni direktor za zdravstvo Noor Hisham Abdullah pozvao na veći oprez, pošto su vlasti otkrile dva žarišta s mutacijom koronavirusa D614G.

Noor Hisham je kazao kako smatra da je novootkriveni soj 10 puta zarazniji te da cjepiva na kojima se trenutačno radi možda neće biti učinkovita protiv te mutacije, no Tambyah tvrdi da takve mutacije najčešće ne mijenjaju virus u dovoljnoj mjeri da bi se potencijalna cjepiva u njihovu slučaju pokazala manje učinkovitima.

Mutacija novog koronavirusa koji je sve češći u Europi, a nedavno je otkriven i u Maleziji vjerojatno je zaraznija, no čini se i manje smrtonosna, smatra Paul Tambyah, ugledni singapurski liječnik, specijalist za zarazne bolesti.

Tambyah je viši savjetnik Nacionalnog sveučilišta u Singapuru i predsjednik Međunarodnog društva za zarazne bolesti sa sjedištem u Sjedinjenim Državama te kaže da je mutacija D614G otkrivena i u Singapuru.

Liječnik je rekao kako postoje dokazi po kojima se širenje mutacije D614G u Europi poklopilo s padom stope smrtnosti, što bi, po njegovu mišljenju moglo ukazivati na to da je ona manje smrtonosna.

Dodaje da mutacija vjerojatno neće utjecati na djelotvornost potencijalnog cjepiva, unatoč suprotnim upozorenjima nekih zdravstvenih stručnjaka.

"Možda je dobra stvar da je virus zarazniji, no istodobno manje smrtonosan", rekao je Tambyah za Reuters uz objašnjenje da većina virusa obično postaje manje virulentna nakon što mutira.

"U 'interesu' virusa je zaraziti što više ljudi, ali ne ih i ubiti, jer virus ovisi o svojem 'domaćinu' na čije se stanice pričvršćuje. S obzirom na to da sami nemaju stanične dijelove, u potpunosti ovise o mehanizmu stvaranja energije i bjelančevina stanica domaćina", rekao je.

Znanstvenici su mutaciju otkrili još u veljači, kada je, po podacima Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije kružila Europom i Amerikom. WHO je izvijestio i da nema dokaza po kojima je mutacija rezultirala težim oblikom bolesti.

U nedjelju je malezijski glavni direktor za zdravstvo Noor Hisham Abdullah pozvao na veći oprez, pošto su vlasti otkrile dva žarišta s mutacijom koronavirusa D614G.

Noor Hisham je kazao kako smatra da je novootkriveni soj 10 puta zarazniji te da cjepiva na kojima se trenutačno radi možda neće biti učinkovita protiv te mutacije, no Tambyah tvrdi da takve mutacije najčešće ne mijenjaju virus u dovoljnoj mjeri da bi se potencijalna cjepiva u njihovu slučaju pokazala manje učinkovitima.

Ugledni singapurski infektolog iznio nove teze o mutaciji koronavirusa: Uočene promjene su ‘pozitivne‘, virus je zarazniji, ali manje smrtonosan

Mutacija novog koronavirusa koji je sve češći u Europi, a nedavno je otkriven i u Maleziji vjerojatno je zaraznija, no čini se i manje smrtonosna, smatra Paul Tambyah, ugledni singapurski liječnik, specijalist za zarazne bolesti.

Tambyah je viši savjetnik Nacionalnog sveučilišta u Singapuru i predsjednik Međunarodnog društva za zarazne bolesti sa sjedištem u Sjedinjenim Državama te kaže da je mutacija D614G otkrivena i u Singapuru.

Liječnik je rekao kako postoje dokazi po kojima se širenje mutacije D614G u Europi poklopilo s padom stope smrtnosti, što bi, po njegovu mišljenju moglo ukazivati na to da je ona manje smrtonosna.

Dodaje da mutacija vjerojatno neće utjecati na djelotvornost potencijalnog cjepiva, unatoč suprotnim upozorenjima nekih zdravstvenih...
