Senat je u četvrtak usvojio rezoluciju kojom je ograničio ovlasti predsjednika Donalda Trumpa pri mogućem pokretanju rata protiv Irana, ali je Trump rekao da će staviti veto na tu odluku, koji može nadjačati samo dvotrećinska većina u Senatu.

Osam republikanaca i svi demokrati glasali su za rezoluciju koja je usvojena s 55 glasova za i 45 glasova protiv.

Trump je najavio da će staviti veto na odluku, koji može nadjačati dvotrećinska većina u Senatu, do čega vjerojatno neće doći, budući da su ukupno 53 republikanca u Senatu.

Kada bi rezolucija postala obvezujuća, Kongres bi morao objaviti rat, ili odobriti upotrebu vojne sile protiv Irana, da bi djelovanje protiv iranskih ciljeva bila legalno.

Početkom 2020. američka je vojska, po Trumpovoj zapovijedi, dronom ubila zapovjednika Iranske revolucionarne garde Kasima Sulejmanija, na što je Iran uzvratio raketiranjem dvaju američkih vojnih baza u Iraku.

Protivnici rezolucije tvrde da iz nje Teheran može iščitati američku slabost.

"Moramo poslati poruku nepokolebljivosti, a ne slabosti", rekao je senator Jim Risch, republikanski predsjednik senatskog Odbora za vanjske poslove.

Zastupnički dom, u kojemu demokrati imaju većinu, usvojio je sličnu rezoluciju prošloga mjeseca, ali ipak nije riječ o istoj rezoluciji, pa će Zastupnički dom morati usvojiti senatsku verziju, prije no što se rezolucija pošalje Trumpu.

Osam republikanaca i svi demokrati glasali su za rezoluciju koja je usvojena s 55 glasova za i 45 glasova protiv.

Trump je najavio da će staviti veto na odluku, koji može nadjačati dvotrećinska većina u Senatu, do čega vjerojatno neće doći, budući da su ukupno 53 republikanca u Senatu.

Kada bi rezolucija postala obvezujuća, Kongres bi morao objaviti rat, ili odobriti upotrebu vojne sile protiv Irana, da bi djelovanje protiv iranskih ciljeva bila legalno.

Početkom 2020. američka je vojska, po Trumpovoj zapovijedi, dronom ubila zapovjednika Iranske revolucionarne garde Kasima Sulejmanija, na što je Iran uzvratio raketiranjem dvaju američkih vojnih baza u Iraku.

Protivnici rezolucije tvrde da iz nje Teheran može iščitati američku slabost.

"Moramo poslati poruku nepokolebljivosti, a ne slabosti", rekao je senator Jim Risch, republikanski predsjednik senatskog Odbora za vanjske poslove.

Zastupnički dom, u kojemu demokrati imaju većinu, usvojio je sličnu rezoluciju prošloga mjeseca, ali ipak nije riječ o istoj rezoluciji, pa će Zastupnički dom morati usvojiti senatsku verziju, prije no što se rezolucija pošalje Trumpu.
