Suša i nestašice vode u Indiji, uključujući glavni indijski grad New Delhi, čiji stanovnici na enormnim vrućinama satima čekaju vodu u dugim redovima, Europljanima su daleko. Kad je nestašicu vode za piće i redukcije po četvrtima nedavno morao uvesti glavni grad Čilea Santiago, to je već drukčije zazvučalo – Santiago, naime, ne spada u "treći svijet" koji je ionako stalno u problemima – glad, žeđa, sukobi, boleštine... No usprkos tome što je riječ o razvijenoj zemlji jake ekonomije, s kakvom je teško povezati bilo kakve redukcije i nestašice, i Čile je Europljanima predaleko da bi se i ovdje oglasila zvona za uzbunu.

No problem je sad na vrata zakucao i jednom europskom glavnom gradu: Londonu. "Sad", zapravo, nije najtočnija vremenska odrednica – znanstvenici i stručnjaci na to upozoravaju već nekoliko godina.

U izvješću London Resilience Foruma i Thames Watera iz 2017. napisano je da je suša postala "stvarna, aktualna prijetnja glavnom gradu". U studiji Sveučilišta Oxford iz 2018. navodi se da se grad suočava s "čestim i ozbiljnim" nestašicama vode i upozorava da London mora smanjiti gubitak vode te povećati učinkovitost recikliranja vode koju koristi. Izvješće, pak, Državnog ureda za reviziju iz 2020. godine upozorava da će, "ako se sada ne poduzmu usklađenije mjere, dijelovi južne i jugoistočne Engleske ostati bez vode u sljedećih 20 godina".

Prošloga tjedna britanski Odbor za klimatske promjene u svom je izvješću oštro kritizirao način na koji se vlada bavi energetskom krizom, ali i nestašicu vode identificirao kao jedan od pet "prioritetnih rizika" s kojima se Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo suočava.

Pretjerano crpimo vodu'

Upozorenje vezano uz situaciju s vodom u Londonu izdao je, donose britanski mediji, i poznati glazbenik iz Sjeverne Irske Feargal Sharkey, bivši pjevač utjecajne novovalne grupe The Undertones, glazbeni producent i menadžer, no poznat i kao aktivist protiv onečišćenja okoliša, osobito rijeka. Oštro upozoravajući na problem, Sharkey je rekao da se glavni grad Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva suočava s rizikom da postane jedan od gradova u svijetu s najvećim nedostatkom vode. Povećani rizik od nestašice uzrokovan je rastućom populacijom i pretjeranim crpljenjem vode, što znači da je količina vode prikupljene iz rijeke veća od količine oborina koje prima, što dovodi do naglog pada razine vode u rijeci. Dodao je kako se "25 milijuna ljudi u Londonu i na jugoistoku opasno približava tome da ostanu bez pitke vode".

Manje od tri posto vode na planetu je prikladno za piće, od čega je veći dio trenutačno zarobljen ledom. I Christian Aid, dobrotvorna organizacija sa sjedištem u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu koja se bori protiv globalnog siromaštva, upozorio je da sve veći broj stanovnika i klimatske promjene predstavljaju veliki pritisak na prirodne resurse, posebno na zalihe pitke vode.

Novo izvješće ove organizacije upozorava da će se veliki gradovi početi suočavati s najgorim utjecajima klimatske krize kako sve više ljudi počne migrirati u gradove.

Voditelj Christian Aida Patrick Watt rekao je za Sky News da izvješća o ljudima koji čekaju u redu za vodu u glavnom gradu Indije New Delhiju, zajedno s planom racionalizacije vode u glavnom gradu Čilea Santiagu, znače da je ovo trenutak da se "oglasi uzbuna", ali i kako "još uvijek ima vremena da se nešto poduzme". Engleska agencija za okoliš već je prije izdala upozorenje da je nestašica vode "tempirana bomba".

Istraživanje Christian Aida otkrilo je da je tijekom 20. stoljeća globalna potrošnja vode porasla više nego dvostruko od stope rasta stanovništva. Upozorava se i da bi zemlje mogle koristiti opskrbu vodom kao "oružje" tijekom sukoba, navodeći ukrajinsko preusmjeravanje opskrbe vodom Krima nakon što ga je Rusija anektirala 2014. godine.

Suša i nestašice vode u Indiji, uključujući glavni indijski grad New Delhi, čiji stanovnici na enormnim vrućinama satima čekaju vodu u dugim redovima, Europljanima su daleko. Kad je nestašicu vode za piće i redukcije po četvrtima nedavno morao uvesti glavni grad Čilea Santiago, to je već drukčije zazvučalo – Santiago, naime, ne spada u "treći svijet" koji je ionako stalno u problemima – glad, žeđa, sukobi, boleštine... No usprkos tome što je riječ o razvijenoj zemlji jake ekonomije, s kakvom je teško povezati bilo kakve redukcije i nestašice, i Čile je Europljanima predaleko da bi se i ovdje oglasila zvona za uzbunu.

No problem je sad na vrata zakucao i jednom europskom glavnom gradu: Londonu. "Sad", zapravo, nije najtočnija vremenska odrednica – znanstvenici i stručnjaci na to upozoravaju već nekoliko godina.

U izvješću London Resilience Foruma i Thames Watera iz 2017. napisano je da je suša postala "stvarna, aktualna prijetnja glavnom gradu". U studiji Sveučilišta Oxford iz 2018. navodi se da se grad suočava s "čestim i ozbiljnim" nestašicama vode i upozorava da London mora smanjiti gubitak vode te povećati učinkovitost recikliranja vode koju koristi. Izvješće, pak, Državnog ureda za reviziju iz 2020. godine upozorava da će, "ako se sada ne poduzmu usklađenije mjere, dijelovi južne i jugoistočne Engleske ostati bez vode u sljedećih 20 godina".

Prošloga tjedna britanski Odbor za klimatske promjene u svom je izvješću oštro kritizirao način na koji se vlada bavi energetskom krizom, ali i nestašicu vode identificirao kao jedan od pet "prioritetnih rizika" s kojima se Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo suočava.

Pretjerano crpimo vodu'

Upozorenje vezano uz situaciju s vodom u Londonu izdao je, donose britanski mediji, i poznati glazbenik iz Sjeverne Irske Feargal Sharkey, bivši pjevač utjecajne novovalne grupe The Undertones, glazbeni producent i menadžer, no poznat i kao aktivist protiv onečišćenja okoliša, osobito rijeka. Oštro upozoravajući na problem, Sharkey je rekao da se glavni grad Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva suočava s rizikom da postane jedan od gradova u svijetu s najvećim nedostatkom vode. Povećani rizik od nestašice uzrokovan je rastućom populacijom i pretjeranim crpljenjem vode, što znači da je količina vode prikupljene iz rijeke veća od količine oborina koje prima, što dovodi do naglog pada razine vode u rijeci. Dodao je kako se "25 milijuna ljudi u Londonu i na jugoistoku opasno približava tome da ostanu bez pitke vode".

Manje od tri posto vode na planetu je prikladno za piće, od čega je veći dio trenutačno zarobljen ledom. I Christian Aid, dobrotvorna organizacija sa sjedištem u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu koja se bori protiv globalnog siromaštva, upozorio je da sve veći broj stanovnika i klimatske promjene predstavljaju veliki pritisak na prirodne resurse, posebno na zalihe pitke vode.

Novo izvješće ove organizacije upozorava da će se veliki gradovi početi suočavati s najgorim utjecajima klimatske krize kako sve više ljudi počne migrirati u gradove.

Voditelj Christian Aida Patrick Watt rekao je za Sky News da izvješća o ljudima koji čekaju u redu za vodu u glavnom gradu Indije New Delhiju, zajedno s planom racionalizacije vode u glavnom gradu Čilea Santiagu, znače da je ovo trenutak da se "oglasi uzbuna", ali i kako "još uvijek ima vremena da se nešto poduzme". Engleska agencija za okoliš već je prije izdala upozorenje da je nestašica vode "tempirana bomba".

Istraživanje Christian Aida otkrilo je da je tijekom 20. stoljeća globalna potrošnja vode porasla više nego dvostruko od stope rasta stanovništva. Upozorava se i da bi zemlje mogle koristiti opskrbu vodom kao "oružje" tijekom sukoba, navodeći ukrajinsko preusmjeravanje opskrbe vodom Krima nakon što ga je Rusija anektirala 2014. godine.
