Klub zemalja koje su razvile vlastito cjepivo protiv koronavirusa prilično se poklapa s klubom zemalja koje su razvile nuklearno oružje – s jednom iznimkom.

Oba kluba su toliko ekskluzivna da se članovi mogu nabrojiti na prste: „nuklearni klub” ih službeno ima osam (SAD, Rusija, Kina, Britanija, Francuska, Indija, Pakistan i Sjeverna Koreja), a „klub cjepiva” upola manje (SAD, Rusija, Kina, Britanija).

Vidimo da oba kluba čine velike i utjecajne zemlje s mnogoljudnom populacijom, dok su države iz „kluba cjepiva” uz to još i bogate i tehnološki najrazvijenije u svijetu.

No na vrata tog kluba kuca i peta država, koja nikad nije bila ni blizu statusa nuklearne sile, a nije ni velika ni mnogoljudna, još manje bogata i razvijena. To je ona iznimka iz prvog pasusa – Kuba.

Još u siječnju je objavljeno da Kuba razvija čak četiri vlastita cjepiva, od kojih je Soberana 2 ušla u treću fazu testiranja, a novi izvještaji sugeriraju dodatne uspjehe kubanskih znanstvenika: Kuba je u međuvremenu počela razvijati i svoje peto cjepivo, a 18. ožujka u završnu je fazu testiranja ušlo i cjepivo Abdala.

Ključni znanstveni punkt koji Kubi omogućuje ovakav medicinski i biotehnološki proboj pritom je državni Institut za cjepivo Finlay u Havani.

Fidel: Neka bude Institut za cjepivo

Govorimo o najčudnijoj državi na planetu. Kuba je zemlja u kojoj zbog već 60-godišnjeg američkog embarga vlada kronična nestašica osnovnih artikala, ali koja je usprkos embargu uspjela razviti vrhunsko zdravstvo, na najvišoj svjetskoj razini.

Recimo, spomenuti Institut Finlay otvorio je osobno Fidel Castro 1991. godine, kada je, vidjevši da se SSSR raspada, odlučio da Kuba mora imati nešto što će spriječiti da u slučaju epidemije američki embargo razori kubanski zdravstveni sustav.

„Ako nam lijekovi američkih farmakoloških tvrtki ne budu dostupni”, poručio je tada El Comandante, „naći ćemo vlastita rješenja.”

Trideset godina kasnije Kuba je jedina država na svijetu (a i u čitavoj povijesti) kojoj su glavni izvozni proizvod – liječnici.

Podsjetimo, kad je prošle zime buknula pandemija, Kuba je već do početka proljeća poslala 20 liječničkih brigada u više pogođenih zemalja Kariba i Afrike, a jedna je brigada tada sletjela i u Europu (Bergamo, Italija).

Stručnjaci tvrde da jedan od razloga teške epidemiološke situacije u Brazilu leži i u činjenici da je današnji brazilski predsjednik Jair Bolsonaro, čim je 2019. stupio na vlast, iz zemlje protjerao kubanske liječnike koje su dovele ranije lijeve vlade Brazila.

Sada bi mu ti kubanski epidemiolozi zlata vrijedili.

Jer goleme su razlike u smrtnosti od koronavirusa između Brazila i Kube - u Brazilu je preminulo preko 320.000 ljudi, na Kubi ukupno 424 čovjeka. Na milijun stanovnika to izgleda ovako: 1506 mrtvih u Brazilu, 37 na Kubi. Razlika je četrdeset puta (sličan omjer Kuba ima i s Hrvatskom, koja bilježi 1460 mrtvih na milijun ljudi).

Valja reći i da Kuba od prvog dana pandemije sama proizvodi i svu medicinsku opremu nužnu za prevenciju i liječenje korone, od maski do respiratora, kao i kompleksne uređaje poput CT skenera. Za proizvodnju je zadužena državna biotehnološka tvrtka BioCubaFarma.

100 milijuna doza

Iako je Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) po izbijanju pandemije pokrenula program COVAX, koji osigurava besplatna ili jeftina cjepiva siromašnim zemljama, Kuba nikad nije ušla u taj program, niti je naručila ijednu dozu cjepiva iz inozemstva.

Komunističke vlasti od početka su tvrdile da će svi Kubanci biti cijepljeni domaćim cjepivom, navodeći da ne žele biti taoci stranih farmaceutskih tvrtki kojima je, u duhu kapitalizma, profit ispred zdravlja građana. Stoga je prvo kubansko cjepivo i dobilo ime „Soberana”, što na španjolskom znači „suveren”.

Tada je to izgledalo kao šuplja ideološka priča ocvalih komunista, ali danas, kad su čitava Europska unija – uključujući i bogate zapadnoeuropske zemlje - i veliki dio svijeta doista ovisni o poslovnoj politici farmaceutskih tvrtki koje proizvode cjepivo, ispada da je Kuba dobro razumjela što točno znači suverenitet.

Štoviše, Institut Finlay nedavno je objavio da će do kraja godine proizvesti čak 100 milijuna doza cjepiva - što daleko nadmašuje potrebe 11-milijunske Kube – od čega će gro biti namijenjen izvozu u savezničke države (Venezuela, Meksiko, Iran) i širom Trećeg svijeta.

No sada se taj izvozni plan donekle revidira: neće svo cjepivo ići u inozemstvo, već će dio biti uskladišten u zračnoj luci u Havani, gdje će biti namijenjen stranim turistima koji dolaze na Kubu.

Turizam je motor kubanske ekonomije, pa državni vrh želi Kubu predstaviti kao sigurnu destinaciju za odmor. U Havani se trenutno raspravlja o tome hoće li turisti plaćati cjepivo, ili će im to biti poklon kubanske vlade za bezbrižan odmor.

Komunistički principi nalagali bi potonju opciju.

Klub zemalja koje su razvile vlastito cjepivo protiv koronavirusa prilično se poklapa s klubom zemalja koje su razvile nuklearno oružje – s jednom iznimkom.

Oba kluba su toliko ekskluzivna da se članovi mogu nabrojiti na prste: „nuklearni klub” ih službeno ima osam (SAD, Rusija, Kina, Britanija, Francuska, Indija, Pakistan i Sjeverna Koreja), a „klub cjepiva” upola manje (SAD, Rusija, Kina, Britanija).

Vidimo da oba kluba čine velike i utjecajne zemlje s mnogoljudnom populacijom, dok su države iz „kluba cjepiva” uz to još i bogate i tehnološki najrazvijenije u svijetu.

No na vrata tog kluba kuca i peta država, koja nikad nije bila ni blizu statusa nuklearne sile, a nije ni velika ni mnogoljudna, još manje bogata i razvijena. To je ona iznimka iz prvog pasusa – Kuba.

Još u siječnju je objavljeno da Kuba razvija čak četiri vlastita cjepiva, od kojih je Soberana 2 ušla u treću fazu testiranja, a novi izvještaji sugeriraju dodatne uspjehe kubanskih znanstvenika: Kuba je u međuvremenu počela razvijati i svoje peto cjepivo, a 18. ožujka u završnu je fazu testiranja ušlo i cjepivo Abdala.

Ključni znanstveni punkt koji Kubi omogućuje ovakav medicinski i biotehnološki proboj pritom je državni Institut za cjepivo Finlay u Havani.

Fidel: Neka bude Institut za cjepivo

Govorimo o najčudnijoj državi na planetu. Kuba je zemlja u kojoj zbog već 60-godišnjeg američkog embarga vlada kronična nestašica osnovnih artikala, ali koja je usprkos embargu uspjela razviti vrhunsko zdravstvo, na najvišoj svjetskoj razini.

Recimo, spomenuti Institut Finlay otvorio je osobno Fidel Castro 1991. godine, kada je, vidjevši da se SSSR raspada, odlučio da Kuba mora imati nešto što će spriječiti da u slučaju epidemije američki embargo razori kubanski zdravstveni sustav.

„Ako nam lijekovi američkih farmakoloških tvrtki ne budu dostupni”, poručio je tada El Comandante, „naći ćemo vlastita rješenja.”

Trideset godina kasnije Kuba je jedina država na svijetu (a i u čitavoj povijesti) kojoj su glavni izvozni proizvod – liječnici.

Podsjetimo, kad je prošle zime buknula pandemija, Kuba je već do početka proljeća poslala 20 liječničkih brigada u više pogođenih zemalja Kariba i Afrike, a jedna je brigada tada sletjela i u Europu (Bergamo, Italija).

Stručnjaci tvrde da jedan od razloga teške epidemiološke situacije u Brazilu leži i u činjenici da je današnji brazilski predsjednik Jair Bolsonaro, čim je 2019. stupio na vlast, iz zemlje protjerao kubanske liječnike koje su dovele ranije lijeve vlade Brazila.

Sada bi mu ti kubanski epidemiolozi zlata vrijedili.

Jer goleme su razlike u smrtnosti od koronavirusa između Brazila i Kube - u Brazilu je preminulo preko 320.000 ljudi, na Kubi ukupno 424 čovjeka. Na milijun stanovnika to izgleda ovako: 1506 mrtvih u Brazilu, 37 na Kubi. Razlika je četrdeset puta (sličan omjer Kuba ima i s Hrvatskom, koja bilježi 1460 mrtvih na milijun ljudi).

Valja reći i da Kuba od prvog dana pandemije sama proizvodi i svu medicinsku opremu nužnu za prevenciju i liječenje korone, od maski do respiratora, kao i kompleksne uređaje poput CT skenera. Za proizvodnju je zadužena državna biotehnološka tvrtka BioCubaFarma.

100 milijuna doza

Iako je Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) po izbijanju pandemije pokrenula program COVAX, koji osigurava besplatna ili jeftina cjepiva siromašnim zemljama, Kuba nikad nije ušla u taj program, niti je naručila ijednu dozu cjepiva iz inozemstva.

Komunističke vlasti od početka su tvrdile da će svi Kubanci biti cijepljeni domaćim cjepivom, navodeći da ne žele biti taoci stranih farmaceutskih tvrtki kojima je, u duhu kapitalizma, profit ispred zdravlja građana. Stoga je prvo kubansko cjepivo i dobilo ime „Soberana”, što na španjolskom znači „suveren”.

Tada je to izgledalo kao šuplja ideološka priča ocvalih komunista, ali danas, kad su čitava Europska unija – uključujući i bogate zapadnoeuropske zemlje - i veliki dio svijeta doista ovisni o poslovnoj politici farmaceutskih tvrtki koje proizvode cjepivo, ispada da je Kuba dobro razumjela što točno znači suverenitet.

Štoviše, Institut Finlay nedavno je objavio da će do kraja godine proizvesti čak 100 milijuna doza cjepiva - što daleko nadmašuje potrebe 11-milijunske Kube – od čega će gro biti namijenjen izvozu u savezničke države (Venezuela, Meksiko, Iran) i širom Trećeg svijeta.

No sada se taj izvozni plan donekle revidira: neće svo cjepivo ići u inozemstvo, već će dio biti uskladišten u zračnoj luci u Havani, gdje će biti namijenjen stranim turistima koji dolaze na Kubu.

Turizam je motor kubanske ekonomije, pa državni vrh želi Kubu predstaviti kao sigurnu destinaciju za odmor. U Havani se trenutno raspravlja o tome hoće li turisti plaćati cjepivo, ili će im to biti poklon kubanske vlade za bezbrižan odmor.

Komunistički principi nalagali bi potonju opciju.

Klub zemalja koje su razvile vlastito cjepivo protiv koronavirusa prilično se poklapa s klubom zemalja koje su razvile nuklearno oružje – s jednom iznimkom.

Oba kluba su toliko ekskluzivna da se članovi mogu nabrojiti na prste: „nuklearni klub” ih službeno ima osam (SAD, Rusija, Kina, Britanija, Francuska, Indija, Pakistan i Sjeverna Koreja), a „klub cjepiva” upola manje (SAD, Rusija, Kina, Britanija).

Vidimo da oba kluba čine velike i utjecajne zemlje s mnogoljudnom populacijom, dok su države iz „kluba cjepiva” uz to još i bogate i tehnološki najrazvijenije u svijetu.
