Dan nakon potresa u Maroku koji je, prema posljednjim podacima, usmrtio najmanje 2100 ljudi, spasilački timovi utrkuju se s vremenom ne bi li iz ruševina uspjeli izvući preživjele. Oružane snage, hitne službe i civilna zaštita danonoćno su na terenu, svjesni činjenice da su prva 72 sata nakon nesreće kritična u smislu potrage i spašavanja.

Marokanski kralj Mohammed VI. proglasio je trodnevnu nacionalnu žalost, a sućut i svu potrebnu pomoć uputili su čelnici iz cijelog svijeta, uključujući američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena, kineskog čelnika Xi Jinpinga i francuskog predsjednika Emmanuela Macrona.

Mnoge je potres jačine 6,8 po Richteru iznenadio i uhvatio nespremne. Potresi, pogotovo ove jačine, nisu česti u sjevernoj Africi. Sjeverni rub afričkog kontinenta karakterizira relativno niska stopa seizmičnosti te se većina potresa zapravo događa sjevernije u Sredozemlju. Podrhtavanja u tom području su tektonskog podrijetla. Afrička tektonska ploča podvlači se pod europsku ploču, čime se stvara veliki pritisak između stijena, koji se na kraju oslobađa u obliku potresa, piše Jutarnji list.

Nekoliko faktora imalo je značajan utjecaj na jačinu i razarajuću snagu potresa u Maroku, od dubine na kojoj se nalazi žarište potresa, geologije područja do vremena u kojem se potres dogodio.

Sjeverni Maroko leži na liniji rasjeda Azori-Gibraltar, glavnoj zoni koja razdvaja afričku i euroazijsku tektonsku ploču. Linija rasjeda je pukotina u Zemljinoj kori koja nastaje kada se ploče sa svake strane rasjeda pomiču jedna pored druge. Američki geološki zavod pripisao je potres u Maroku "kosom reversnom rasjedu na maloj dubini unutar marokanskog planinskog lanca Visokog Atlasa".

"Planine Atlas su zona slabosti u Maroku s vrlo dugom geološkom poviješću. Stres (napetost) se nakuplja u tim područjima. Afrika se kreće na sjever prema Europi i to je uzrok potresa koji se dogodio na ovom području", rekao je za Al Jazeeru Chris Elders, geolog pri australskom Sveučilištu Curtin.

Znanstvenici koriste kut rasjeda u odnosu na Zemljinu površinu i smjer klizanja duž rasjeda kako bi ih klasificirali. Rasjedi koji se kreću duž smjera rasjedne ravnine su rasjedi padanja, dok su rasjedi koji se kreću horizontalno poznati kao rasjedi klizanja.

Rasjedi s kosim klizištem pokazuju karakteristike i rasjeda s padanjem i sklizanjem. Izraz "reversni" odnosi se na situaciju da se gornji blok, iznad rasjedne ravnine, pomiče prema gore i preko donjeg bloka. Horizontalno klizanje

Primjerice, snažni potres u Turskoj u veljači imao je horizontalno kretanje, jer se zemlja pomiče prema zapadu, krećući se prema Grčkoj, te je došlo do horizontalnog klizanja tektonskih ploča. Ali, u Maroku je došlo do konvergencije između Afrike i Euroazije, preklapajućih rasjeda, rekao je za AFP Philippe Vernant, stručnjak za aktivnu tektoniku na Sveučilištu Montpellier.

Geologija područja jedan je od faktora koji je pridonio intenzitetu potresa. Budući da se područje sastoji od relativno mekih sedimentnih stijena, to olakšava proces njihovog lomljenja i čini ih ranjivijima na pomicanje tektonskih ploča, što dovodi do oslobađanja velike količine energije. Drugi važan razlog zašto je potres u Maroku bio tako razoran je dubina na kojoj se nalazi žarište potresa.

Naime, potres koji je pogodio Maroko bio je prilično plitak, s epicentrom na dubini od oko 18 kilometara. Plitki potresi se osjećaju jače i uzrokuju veću štetu od potresa s dubljim žarištem. Kod plićih potresa se bolje razvijaju površinski valovi koji se kreću na površini Zemlje, gdje uzrokuju štetu.

Svjetska baština

Velik dio pogođenog područja je ruralan s mnogo kuća napravljenih od opeke od blata, tradicionalnom metodom gradnje koja je vrlo osjetljiva na potrese i jake kiše. U Marakešu su se srušile mnoge kuće u tijesno zbijenom starom gradu, koji je na UNESCO-vom popisu svjetske baštine.

Jedan od razloga zašto je potres bio tako smrtonosan je i činjenica da se dogodio noću, što je kod mnogih smanjilo snalaženje u takvoj izvanrednoj situaciji.

Najsmrtonosniji potres u modernoj povijesti Maroka dogodio se 1960. Tada je potres magnitude 5,8 po Richteru odnio gotovo 15 tisuća ljudskih života i ostavio više od 35 tisuća bez ičega na ulici. Iako nisu tako česti, u Maroku je zabilježeno nekoliko potresa jačih od 6,0 po Richteru. Godine 2004. potres magnitude 6,3 pogodio je grad Al Hoceima na sjevernoj obali Maroka, a u 2016. je potres magnitude 6,3 pogodio obalu u Alboranskom moru, sjeveroistočno od grada Al Hoceima.

Dan nakon potresa u Maroku koji je, prema posljednjim podacima, usmrtio najmanje 2100 ljudi, spasilački timovi utrkuju se s vremenom ne bi li iz ruševina uspjeli izvući preživjele. Oružane snage, hitne službe i civilna zaštita danonoćno su na terenu, svjesni činjenice da su prva 72 sata nakon nesreće kritična u smislu potrage i spašavanja.

Marokanski kralj Mohammed VI. proglasio je trodnevnu nacionalnu žalost, a sućut i svu potrebnu pomoć uputili su čelnici iz cijelog svijeta, uključujući američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena, kineskog čelnika Xi Jinpinga i francuskog predsjednika Emmanuela Macrona.

Mnoge je potres jačine 6,8 po Richteru iznenadio i uhvatio nespremne. Potresi, pogotovo ove jačine, nisu česti u sjevernoj Africi. Sjeverni rub afričkog kontinenta karakterizira relativno niska stopa seizmičnosti te se većina potresa zapravo događa sjevernije u Sredozemlju. Podrhtavanja u tom području su tektonskog podrijetla. Afrička tektonska ploča podvlači se pod europsku ploču, čime se stvara veliki pritisak između stijena, koji se na kraju oslobađa u obliku potresa, piše Jutarnji list.

Nekoliko faktora imalo je značajan utjecaj na jačinu i razarajuću snagu potresa u Maroku, od dubine na kojoj se nalazi žarište potresa, geologije područja do vremena u kojem se potres dogodio.

Sjeverni Maroko leži na liniji rasjeda Azori-Gibraltar, glavnoj zoni koja razdvaja afričku i euroazijsku tektonsku ploču. Linija rasjeda je pukotina u Zemljinoj kori koja nastaje kada se ploče sa svake strane rasjeda pomiču jedna pored druge. Američki geološki zavod pripisao je potres u Maroku "kosom reversnom rasjedu na maloj dubini unutar marokanskog planinskog lanca Visokog Atlasa".

"Planine Atlas su zona slabosti u Maroku s vrlo dugom geološkom poviješću. Stres (napetost) se nakuplja u tim područjima. Afrika se kreće na sjever prema Europi i to je uzrok potresa koji se dogodio na ovom području", rekao je za Al Jazeeru Chris Elders, geolog pri australskom Sveučilištu Curtin.

Znanstvenici koriste kut rasjeda u odnosu na Zemljinu površinu i smjer klizanja duž rasjeda kako bi ih klasificirali. Rasjedi koji se kreću duž smjera rasjedne ravnine su rasjedi padanja, dok su rasjedi koji se kreću horizontalno poznati kao rasjedi klizanja.

Rasjedi s kosim klizištem pokazuju karakteristike i rasjeda s padanjem i sklizanjem. Izraz "reversni" odnosi se na situaciju da se gornji blok, iznad rasjedne ravnine, pomiče prema gore i preko donjeg bloka. Horizontalno klizanje

Primjerice, snažni potres u Turskoj u veljači imao je horizontalno kretanje, jer se zemlja pomiče prema zapadu, krećući se prema Grčkoj, te je došlo do horizontalnog klizanja tektonskih ploča. Ali, u Maroku je došlo do konvergencije između Afrike i Euroazije, preklapajućih rasjeda, rekao je za AFP Philippe Vernant, stručnjak za aktivnu tektoniku na Sveučilištu Montpellier.

Geologija područja jedan je od faktora koji je pridonio intenzitetu potresa. Budući da se područje sastoji od relativno mekih sedimentnih stijena, to olakšava proces njihovog lomljenja i čini ih ranjivijima na pomicanje tektonskih ploča, što dovodi do oslobađanja velike količine energije. Svjetska baština

Velik dio pogođenog područja je ruralan s mnogo kuća napravljenih od opeke od blata, tradicionalnom metodom gradnje koja je vrlo osjetljiva na potrese i jake kiše. U Marakešu su se srušile mnoge kuće u tijesno zbijenom starom gradu, koji je na UNESCO-vom popisu svjetske baštine.

Jedan od razloga zašto je potres bio tako smrtonosan je i činjenica da se dogodio noću, što je kod mnogih smanjilo snalaženje u takvoj izvanrednoj situaciji.

Najsmrtonosniji potres u modernoj povijesti Maroka dogodio se 1960. Tada je potres magnitude 5,8 po Richteru odnio gotovo 15 tisuća ljudskih života i ostavio više od 35 tisuća bez ičega na ulici. Iako nisu tako česti, u Maroku je zabilježeno nekoliko potresa jačih od 6,0 po Richteru. Godine 2004. potres magnitude 6,3 pogodio je grad Al Hoceima na sjevernoj obali Maroka, a u 2016. je potres magnitude 6,3 pogodio obalu u Alboranskom moru, sjeveroistočno od grada Al Hoceima.
