Neznalicama poznata kao “buža” na Mihovilovoj širini zapravo je apsida najstarije crkve splitskog ranog srednjovjekovlja, svakako najbliža tadašnjim granicama grada koji je stidljivo počeo izbijati iz čvrstog stiska debelih Dioklecijanovih zidina.

Ne računajući katedralu i krstionicu koje su adaptirani prostori careva mauzoleja i Jupiterova hrama, te kapele u stražarskim zidinama iznad glavnih četiriju vrata palače moje također su “prenamjene” u crkvice, Sveti Mihovil “in ripa maris” građen je baš kao kršćanski bogoslužni prostor, prema predaji, u doba prvog splitskog biskupa Ivana Ravenjanina, dakle u sedmom stoljeću.

Starije od nje su samo crkve podignute u neposrednoj (Sv. Katarina na današnjem Pazaru) ili daljoj okolici grada (Sv. Ivan Evanđelista istočno do Bambine glavice na Marjanu i dvostrukih bazilika Sv. Andrije i Sv. Ivana na Manušu) koje datiraju u peto ili šesto stoljeće.

U svome imenu Sv. Mihovil čuva uspomenu na morsku obalu (in ripa maris) koja je dopirala gotovo do samih zapadnih zidina, što bi značilo da su se u plićaku današnjeg Voćnog trga u to doba parali lupari i vadili žbirci. Negdje u devetom stoljeću apsida Sv. Mihovila uklesana je u zapadni zid Dioklecijanove palače, u XV. stoljeću primodernana je u gotičkom slogu.

Kako se u Splitu oduvijek rušilo, takva je sudbina dopala i Svetoga Mihovila 1906. godine. Para za obnovu, kao i obično, nije bilo pa je ova ugledna drevna crkva, za koju je oko 1405. izrađen i čuveni Hrvojev misal, sravnjena sa zemljom, a don Frane Bulić spasio je vrijedne kamene skulpture i različite ulomke pohranivši ih u Arheološkome muzeju. Tako smo dobili Mihovilovu širinu s kojom nakon rušenja vlasti nisu znale što bi. Ostala je kao nekakav prazni kantun bez jasne svrhe. Glavno je bilo srušiti.

Krajem sedamdesetih Tomislav Marasović i Mate Zekan proveli su opsežna istraživanja pa je tom prilikom nađen vrijedan arheološki materijal, čak i izvorna oltarna menza iz sedmog stoljeća. Nešto prije smo je srušili, a onda je ipak markirana u prostoru niskim zidom koji označava njezinu površinu i sarkofagom na ulazu te dotjeranom apsidom.

Snižena je i nivelacija do izvornog crkvenog poda. U apsidi je nešto kasnije uređen dućan od robe pa umjetnička galerija u staklu. Još 1979. konzervatori su tražili da se u apsidu vrati originalna oltarna menza iz sedmog stoljeća i postave informacije vezane za ovu važnu crkvu splitske povijesti. U naše doba stakla i galerija su maknuti, a apsida Svetoga Mihovila postala je skladište - za katrige sa štekata. Blago našeg vremena.

Sad se opet ostakljuje, konzervatori kažu bespravno. Ne razumiju da, kad je već skladište, onda mora imati i nekakva vrata. A može se unutra gurnuti još kakav zgodan šankić, taman ima mjesta. Što će biti, čitajte u sljedećim nastavcima.

Neznalicama poznata kao “buža” na Mihovilovoj širini zapravo je apsida najstarije crkve splitskog ranog srednjovjekovlja, svakako najbliža tadašnjim granicama grada koji je stidljivo počeo izbijati iz čvrstog stiska debelih Dioklecijanovih zidina.

Ne računajući katedralu i krstionicu koje su adaptirani prostori careva mauzoleja i Jupiterova hrama, te kapele u stražarskim zidinama iznad glavnih četiriju vrata palače moje također su “prenamjene” u crkvice, Sveti Mihovil “in ripa maris” građen je baš kao kršćanski bogoslužni prostor, prema predaji, u doba prvog splitskog biskupa Ivana Ravenjanina, dakle u sedmom stoljeću.

Starije od nje su samo crkve podignute u neposrednoj (Sv. Katarina na današnjem Pazaru) ili daljoj okolici grada (Sv. Ivan Evanđelista istočno do Bambine glavice na Marjanu i dvostrukih bazilika Sv. Andrije i Sv. Ivana na Manušu) koje datiraju u peto ili šesto stoljeće.

U svome imenu Sv. Mihovil čuva uspomenu na morsku obalu (in ripa maris) koja je dopirala gotovo do samih zapadnih zidina, što bi značilo da su se u plićaku današnjeg Voćnog trga u to doba parali lupari i vadili žbirci. Negdje u devetom stoljeću apsida Sv. Mihovila uklesana je u zapadni zid Dioklecijanove palače, u XV. stoljeću primodernana je u gotičkom slogu.

Kako se u Splitu oduvijek rušilo, takva je sudbina dopala i Svetoga Mihovila 1906. godine. Para za obnovu, kao i obično, nije bilo pa je ova ugledna drevna crkva, za koju je oko 1405. izrađen i čuveni Hrvojev misal, sravnjena sa zemljom, a don Frane Bulić spasio je vrijedne kamene skulpture i različite ulomke pohranivši ih u Arheološkome muzeju. Tako smo dobili Mihovilovu širinu s kojom nakon rušenja vlasti nisu znale što bi. Ostala je kao nekakav prazni kantun bez jasne svrhe. Glavno je bilo srušiti.

Krajem sedamdesetih Tomislav Marasović i Mate Zekan proveli su opsežna istraživanja pa je tom prilikom nađen vrijedan arheološki materijal, čak i izvorna oltarna menza iz sedmog stoljeća. Nešto prije smo je srušili, a onda je ipak markirana u prostoru niskim zidom koji označava njezinu površinu i sarkofagom na ulazu te dotjeranom apsidom.

Snižena je i nivelacija do izvornog crkvenog poda. U apsidi je nešto kasnije uređen dućan od robe pa umjetnička galerija u staklu. Još 1979. konzervatori su tražili da se u apsidu vrati originalna oltarna menza iz sedmog stoljeća i postave informacije vezane za ovu važnu crkvu splitske povijesti. U naše doba stakla i galerija su maknuti, a apsida Svetoga Mihovila postala je skladište - za katrige sa štekata. Blago našeg vremena.

Sad se opet ostakljuje, konzervatori kažu bespravno. Ne razumiju da, kad je već skladište, onda mora imati i nekakva vrata. A može se unutra gurnuti još kakav zgodan šankić, taman ima mjesta. Što će biti, čitajte u sljedećim nastavcima.

Neznalicama poznata kao “buža” na Mihovilovoj širini zapravo je apsida najstarije crkve splitskog ranog srednjovjekovlja, svakako najbliža tadašnjim granicama grada koji je stidljivo počeo izbijati iz čvrstog stiska debelih Dioklecijanovih zidina.

Ne računajući katedralu i krstionicu koje su adaptirani prostori careva mauzoleja i Jupiterova hrama, te kapele u stražarskim zidinama iznad glavnih četiriju vrata palače moje također su “prenamjene” u crkvice, Sveti Mihovil “in ripa maris” građen je baš kao kršćanski bogoslužni prostor, prema predaji, u doba prvog splitskog biskupa Ivana Ravenjanina, dakle u sedmom stoljeću.

Starije od nje su samo crkve podignute u neposrednoj (Sv. Katarina na današnjem Pazaru) ili daljoj okolici grada (Sv. Ivan Evanđelista istočno...
