Joe Biden najstariji predsjednik, Kamala Harris prva potpredsjednica, no nije to jedino po čemu će inauguracija ući u povijest - u Bijeloj kući prvi će put živjeti udomljeni pas.

Joe Biden i supruga Jill prije dvije su godine udomili Majora, štenca njemačkog ovčara. 

"Od azila do Bijele kuće, nema bajkovitije priče za jednoga psa", kaže Kitty Block, predsjednica udruge za dobrobit životinja Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

Majorova selidba u Zapadno krilo simbol je promjene među Amerikancima koji "manje kupuju, a više udomljavaju pse", rekla je Block, koja se nada da će udomljeni pas u prvoj obitelji "zacementirati" taj trend.

Bidenovi su 2008. u uzgajivačnici kupili njemačkog ovčara Champa. Bilo je to ispunjenje Joeva obećanja Jill, ako s Barackom Obamom pobijedi na izborima.

Obama je isto obećao svojoj djeci, pa je u Bijelu kuću stigao portugalski vodeni pas Bo.

Aktivisti za zaštitu životinja tada su bili nezadovoljni što su psi kupljeni, a ne udomljeni, pa se obitelj Biden, kad se 2018. odlučila za još jednog ljubimca, po njega uputila u azil.

Godine 2008. u Americi je 41 posto pasa kupljeno u uzgajivačnicama ili u trgovinama kućnih ljubimaca, a oko četvrtina ih je udomljena. Do 2018. godine, posljednje za koju postoje podaci, trend se okrenuo - 28 posto pasa bilo je kupljeno, a 36 posto udomljeno. 

Pretpostavlja se da su 2020., godine u kojoj su ljudi bili izolirani u svojim domovima, udomljavanja postala još češća. 

U nedjelju je ogranak HSUS-a u Delawareu organizirao "indoguraciju" svojem Majoru. Udruga ga je preuzela 2018. kao jednog od šest štenaca iz legla koje je bilo izloženo "nečem toksičnom" u svojoj kući, a vlasnik nije imao novca za liječenje. 

Nakon četiri godine bez kućnih ljubimaca u Bijeloj kući, ondje se u srijedu useljavaju dvogodišnji Major i 12-godišnji Champ. Ali moguće je da će ih biti još, a Bidenovi su rekli da obitelji žele dodati i mačku.

Joe Biden najstariji predsjednik, Kamala Harris prva potpredsjednica, no nije to jedino po čemu će inauguracija ući u povijest - u Bijeloj kući prvi će put živjeti udomljeni pas.

Joe Biden i supruga Jill prije dvije su godine udomili Majora, štenca njemačkog ovčara. 

"Od azila do Bijele kuće, nema bajkovitije priče za jednoga psa", kaže Kitty Block, predsjednica udruge za dobrobit životinja Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

Majorova selidba u Zapadno krilo simbol je promjene među Amerikancima koji "manje kupuju, a više udomljavaju pse", rekla je Block, koja se nada da će udomljeni pas u prvoj obitelji "zacementirati" taj trend.

Bidenovi su 2008. u uzgajivačnici kupili njemačkog ovčara Champa. Bilo je to ispunjenje Joeva obećanja Jill, ako s Barackom Obamom pobijedi na izborima.

Obama je isto obećao svojoj djeci, pa je u Bijelu kuću stigao portugalski vodeni pas Bo.

Aktivisti za zaštitu životinja tada su bili nezadovoljni što su psi kupljeni, a ne udomljeni, pa se obitelj Biden, kad se 2018. odlučila za još jednog ljubimca, po njega uputila u azil.

Godine 2008. u Americi je 41 posto pasa kupljeno u uzgajivačnicama ili u trgovinama kućnih ljubimaca, a oko četvrtina ih je udomljena. Do 2018. godine, posljednje za koju postoje podaci, trend se okrenuo - 28 posto pasa bilo je kupljeno, a 36 posto udomljeno. 

Pretpostavlja se da su 2020., godine u kojoj su ljudi bili izolirani u svojim domovima, udomljavanja postala još češća. 

U nedjelju je ogranak HSUS-a u Delawareu organizirao "indoguraciju" svojem Majoru. Udruga ga je preuzela 2018. kao jednog od šest štenaca iz legla koje je bilo izloženo "nečem toksičnom" u svojoj kući, a vlasnik nije imao novca za liječenje. 

Nakon četiri godine bez kućnih ljubimaca u Bijeloj kući, ondje se u srijedu useljavaju dvogodišnji Major i 12-godišnji Champ. Ali moguće je da će ih biti još, a Bidenovi su rekli da obitelji žele dodati i mačku.
