Zdravstveni stručnjaci utvrdili su da su maske za lice ključne u suzbijanju širenja koronavirusa, no dosad je provedeno malo istraživanja o tomu kakva je vrsta maski najučinkovitija.
U sklopu zadnje studije stručnjaci su rangirali 14 vrsta dostupnih maski, otkrivši da kirurške maske pružaju najučinkovitiju zaštitu od širenja kapljica iz usne šupljine u odnosu na pamučne alternative, dok se zaštita pri nošenju bandana i tuba šalova pokazala najlošijom.
Ovo bi saznanje trebalo biti posebno važno za vlasti Sjedinjenih Država koje potiču stanovnike na korištenje maski od tekstila kako bi onih medicinskih, zbog malih zaliha ostalo više za američke zdravstvene radnike.
"U Sjedinjenim Državama moramo povećati proizvodnju i distribuciju kirurških maski", tvitao je Tom Frieden, bivši direktor Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti koji je tu dužnost obnašao u vrijeme kad je predsjednik države bio Barack Obama, reagirajući na rezultate studije objavljene u časopisu Science Advances.

Maske su iznimno važne jer 30 do 40 posto zaraženih osoba ne pokazuje simptome bolesti, nesvjesno pritom šireći virus kada kašlju, kišu ili samo normalno govore.
Jednostavan i jeftin eksperiment
Tim znanstvenika sa Sveučilišta Duke proveo je jednostavno i jeftino istraživanje: ispitanici su stajali u zamračenoj prostoriji te su pet puta morali izgovoriti: "Ljudi, ostanite zdravi" u smjeru laserskog snopa, a sve je snimano kamerom mobitela.
Potom je za izračun broja kapljica emitiranih iz usne šupljine sudionika studije upotrijebljen računalni algoritam.
"Ovakvo ispitivanje mogu provesti vlasnici tvrtki i svi oni koji zaposlenike opskrbljuju maskama", rekao je koautor studije, kemičar i fizičar, Martin Fischer, dodavši da se laser i leće mogu kupiti za 200 dolara te da oni koji provode eksperiment ne moraju nužno biti stručnjaci
Studija je pokazala da su profesionalne maske N95 s ventilima, one koje koristi bolničko osoblje na prvim linijama borbe protiv koronavirusa, smanjile prijenos kapljica na manje od 0,1 posto.
Kirurške ili polipropilenske maske po učinkovitosti nisu nimalo zaostajale za njima. Prijenos kapljica smanjile su za 90 posto ili više u usporedbi s maskom nezaštićenim licem.
Ručno izrađene pamučne maske za lice bile su prilično učinkovite te su eliminirale od 70 do 90 posto kapljica emitiranih tijekom normalnog govora, ovisno o broju slojeva i nabora.
No pokazalo se da učinkovitost bandana iznosi samo oko 50 posto, a kada su ispitanici preko usta i nosa stavili popularni tuba šal, količina kapljica emitiranih iz usta se povećala, vjerojatno zbog raspršivanja većih u puno manjih kapljica.
Koautor studije Eric Westman istaknuo je da nakon provedenog eksperimenta premisa po kojoj je bolje koristiti bilo kakvu masku nego nikakvu, sada više 'ne drži vodu'.
Rezultati studije objavljeni su u časopisu Science Advances.

Zdravstveni stručnjaci utvrdili su da su maske za lice ključne u suzbijanju širenja koronavirusa, no dosad je provedeno malo istraživanja o tomu kakva je vrsta maski najučinkovitija.
U sklopu zadnje studije stručnjaci su rangirali 14 vrsta dostupnih maski, otkrivši da kirurške maske pružaju najučinkovitiju zaštitu od širenja kapljica iz usne šupljine u odnosu na pamučne alternative, dok se zaštita pri nošenju bandana i tuba šalova pokazala najlošijom.
Ovo bi saznanje trebalo biti posebno važno za vlasti Sjedinjenih Država koje potiču stanovnike na korištenje maski od tekstila kako bi onih medicinskih, zbog malih zaliha ostalo više za američke zdravstvene radnike.
"U Sjedinjenim Državama moramo povećati proizvodnju i distribuciju kirurških maski", tvitao je Tom Frieden, bivši direktor Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti koji je tu dužnost obnašao u vrijeme kad je predsjednik države bio Barack Obama, reagirajući na rezultate studije objavljene u časopisu Science Advances.

Maske su iznimno važne jer 30 do 40 posto zaraženih osoba ne pokazuje simptome bolesti, nesvjesno pritom šireći virus kada kašlju, kišu ili samo normalno govore.
Jednostavan i jeftin eksperiment
Tim znanstvenika sa Sveučilišta Duke proveo je jednostavno i jeftino istraživanje: ispitanici su stajali u zamračenoj prostoriji te su pet puta morali izgovoriti: "Ljudi, ostanite zdravi" u smjeru laserskog snopa, a sve je snimano kamerom mobitela.
Potom je za izračun broja kapljica emitiranih iz usne šupljine sudionika studije upotrijebljen računalni algoritam.
"Ovakvo ispitivanje mogu provesti vlasnici tvrtki i svi oni koji zaposlenike opskrbljuju maskama", rekao je koautor studije, kemičar i fizičar, Martin Fischer, dodavši da se laser i leće mogu kupiti za 200 dolara te da oni koji provode eksperiment ne moraju nužno biti stručnjaci
Studija je pokazala da su profesionalne maske N95 s ventilima, one koje koristi bolničko osoblje na prvim linijama borbe protiv koronavirusa, smanjile prijenos kapljica na manje od 0,1 posto.
Kirurške ili polipropilenske maske po učinkovitosti nisu nimalo zaostajale za njima. Prijenos kapljica smanjile su za 90 posto ili više u usporedbi s maskom nezaštićenim licem.
Ručno izrađene pamučne maske za lice bile su prilično učinkovite te su eliminirale od 70 do 90 posto kapljica emitiranih tijekom normalnog govora, ovisno o broju slojeva i nabora.
No pokazalo se da učinkovitost bandana iznosi samo oko 50 posto, a kada su ispitanici preko usta i nosa stavili popularni tuba šal, količina kapljica emitiranih iz usta se povećala, vjerojatno zbog raspršivanja većih u puno manjih kapljica.
Koautor studije Eric Westman istaknuo je da nakon provedenog eksperimenta premisa po kojoj je bolje koristiti bilo kakvu masku nego nikakvu, sada više 'ne drži vodu'.
Rezultati studije objavljeni su u časopisu Science Advances.
