Paljenje svijeća i ukrašavanje grobova cvijećem običaj je koji se upražnjava od pamtivijeka. U 19. stoljeću na grobove se nosila hrana jer se vjerovalo da je dušama potrebna okrepa, no hranu je s vremenom zamijenilo cvijeće, osim ponegdje u istočnom kršćanstvu.
Paljenje svijeća bio je i ostao običaj u svim religijama svijeta, piše N1.
Premda za većinu Hrvata blagdan Svih svetih, koji se obilježava prvog dana u studenom, znači obilazak groblja i paljenje svijeća u znak sjećanja na najmilije, mnogi pogrešno ovaj blagdan poistovjećuju s Dušnim danom, koji se još naziva i Dan mrtvih, a obilježava se dan nakon Svih svetih
Za duše mrtvih vjernici pale svijeće na grobovima kako bi one pronašle put u mraku, ali i kao znak sjećanja na preminule.
Iako je blagdan Svih svetih posvećen svecima koji su zahvaljujući svojim djelima ili služenju Bogu prozvani svetima, mnogi ga miješaju s Dušnim danom.
Blagdanom Svih svetih slave se sveci, kako oni koji su već kanonizirani, tako i oni koji to još nisu. U kalendaru Katoličke crkve Svi sveti označeni su kao svetkovina, a ujedno je to neradni dan u Republici Hrvatskoj.
Ovaj kršćanski blagdan počeo se slaviti još u 4. stoljeću te su ga u početku sve crkve obilježavale istog dana, u nedjelju nakon Duhova, no papa Grgur III je u prvoj polovici 8. stoljeća blagdan Svih svetih premjestio na 1. studenog kako bi se poklopio s drevnim keltskim blagdanom Samhain, a koji je označavao novu godinu.

U vrijeme Karla Velikog blagdan je već bio izuzetno proširen, a kralj Luj Pobožni proglasio ga je 835. godine na zahtjev pape Grgura IV zapovjedanim blagdanom, uz pristanak svih biskupa.
Dušni dan nastao je pak dva stoljeća kasnije, inicijativom opata iz Krimija, sv. Odilona, koji je 998. godine započeo tradiciju dugu 10 tisuća godina. Zaslugom benediktinaca, blagdan Svih svetih proširio se u svijetu, a 1311. godine potvrdio ga je i Vatikan.
Iako blagdane Svi sveti i Dušni dan, osim kalendarske blizine, povezuju molitva, paljenje svijeća i polaganje cvijeća, Dušni dan posvećen je sjećanju isključivo na nama bliske preminule.
To je dan u kojem sva katolička groblja sjaje najvećim sjajem, a običaj je da se kao znak sjećanja na preminule održavaju i mise zadušnice. Svećenici na Dušni dan služe tri mise: jednu kome god žele namijeniti, drugu na nakanu Svetog Oca, a treću za sve vjerne mrtve, piše N1.

Paljenje svijeća i ukrašavanje grobova cvijećem običaj je koji se upražnjava od pamtivijeka. U 19. stoljeću na grobove se nosila hrana jer se vjerovalo da je dušama potrebna okrepa, no hranu je s vremenom zamijenilo cvijeće, osim ponegdje u istočnom kršćanstvu.
Paljenje svijeća bio je i ostao običaj u svim religijama svijeta, piše N1.
Premda za većinu Hrvata blagdan Svih svetih, koji se obilježava prvog dana u studenom, znači obilazak groblja i paljenje svijeća u znak sjećanja na najmilije, mnogi pogrešno ovaj blagdan poistovjećuju s Dušnim danom, koji se još naziva i Dan mrtvih, a obilježava se dan nakon Svih svetih
Za duše mrtvih vjernici pale svijeće na grobovima kako bi one pronašle put u mraku, ali i kao znak sjećanja na preminule.
Iako je blagdan Svih svetih posvećen svecima koji su zahvaljujući svojim djelima ili služenju Bogu prozvani svetima, mnogi ga miješaju s Dušnim danom.
Blagdanom Svih svetih slave se sveci, kako oni koji su već kanonizirani, tako i oni koji to još nisu. U kalendaru Katoličke crkve Svi sveti označeni su kao svetkovina, a ujedno je to neradni dan u Republici Hrvatskoj.
Ovaj kršćanski blagdan počeo se slaviti još u 4. stoljeću te su ga u početku sve crkve obilježavale istog dana, u nedjelju nakon Duhova, no papa Grgur III je u prvoj polovici 8. stoljeća blagdan Svih svetih premjestio na 1. studenog kako bi se poklopio s drevnim keltskim blagdanom Samhain, a koji je označavao novu godinu.

U vrijeme Karla Velikog blagdan je već bio izuzetno proširen, a kralj Luj Pobožni proglasio ga je 835. godine na zahtjev pape Grgura IV zapovjedanim blagdanom, uz pristanak svih biskupa.
Dušni dan nastao je pak dva stoljeća kasnije, inicijativom opata iz Krimija, sv. Odilona, koji je 998. godine započeo tradiciju dugu 10 tisuća godina. Zaslugom benediktinaca, blagdan Svih svetih proširio se u svijetu, a 1311. godine potvrdio ga je i Vatikan.
Iako blagdane Svi sveti i Dušni dan, osim kalendarske blizine, povezuju molitva, paljenje svijeća i polaganje cvijeća, Dušni dan posvećen je sjećanju isključivo na nama bliske preminule.
To je dan u kojem sva katolička groblja sjaje najvećim sjajem, a običaj je da se kao znak sjećanja na preminule održavaju i mise zadušnice. Svećenici na Dušni dan služe tri mise: jednu kome god žele namijeniti, drugu na nakanu Svetog Oca, a treću za sve vjerne mrtve, piše N1.
