Radi se o nestaloj kornjači. Odnosno, dvije.
Kad tako napišemo, zvuči i pomalo smiješno, no situacija je ozbiljna. Nestao je Shnappy, velika kornjača iz New Yorka, koja je maskota Clove Lakes Parka. Teška je 22 kilograma i zaista se nije mogla samo tako zavući negdje, pa su se svi zabrinuli. Iako se Njujorčani trenutno trebaju brinuti oko mnogo toga što je možda važnije od jedne kornjače, činjenica je da je Shnappyjev nestanak uznemirio mnoge na Staten Islandu, piše Jutarnji list.
Oni njegov gotovo jednako veliki prijatelj Jeffrey nestali su prije dva tjedna, što je izazvalo val teorija zavjere o njihovoj sudbini. Mnogi mještani sumnjaju da su ih lovokradice ulovile za juhu, ali nitko to zapravo ne zna – sigurnosne kamere u parku nisu snimile kradljivce.
- Svjesni smo da su članovi zajednice raspravljali o navodnom uklanjanju kornjača iz ovog parka, ali nismo bili svjedoci tom događaju. NYC Parks nije izravno primio nikakve konkretne informacije o ljudima koji su uzimali divlje životinje iz parka Clove Lakes - rekao je glasnogovornik odjela za parkove Gregg McQueen za Guardian.
- Divlji svijet igra važnu ulogu u ekosustavu našeg grada i od ključne je važnosti da učinimo sve što možemo kako bismo zaštitili životinje koje obitavaju u parkovima i zelenim površinama našeg grada. Protuzakonito je odvoditi, ozljeđivati ili ubijati životinje u parkovima. Ako Njujorčani vide da netko to radi, trebali bi nazvati policiju - dodao je.
Nema sumnje da je nestanak Shnappyja, za kojeg se vjerovalo da je mužjak, i Jeffreyja, za kojeg se vjeruje da je možda ipak ženka, ostavio emocionalne posljedice na ljude koji žive na Staten Islandu.
- Jeffrey je ovdje oduvijek - rekla je Natacha Beck, domaćica u Stone Houseu, restoranu s pogledom na jezero. Uvjerena je da, ako ih je netko odveo, morao je znati o kome se radi, jer su kornjače zaista bile poznate.
Smatra se da je Shnappy star između 50 i 75 godina i bio je poznat po svojim čestim seksualnim aktivnostima. Iako druga kornjača ima muško ime, svi su na kraju zaključili da se ipak radi o ženki jer su ih vidjeli kako se pare. Osim toga, uvijek su plivali zajedno, tako da je očigledno riječ o paru.
Mnogi strahuju da su kornjače otete zbog mesa, jer to ne bi bio prvi put. Prije pet godina je policija je ispitala pet žena u Brooklynu, jer su namamile kornjače iz vode, a onda ih spremile u vreće.

Radi se o nestaloj kornjači. Odnosno, dvije.
Kad tako napišemo, zvuči i pomalo smiješno, no situacija je ozbiljna. Nestao je Shnappy, velika kornjača iz New Yorka, koja je maskota Clove Lakes Parka. Teška je 22 kilograma i zaista se nije mogla samo tako zavući negdje, pa su se svi zabrinuli. Iako se Njujorčani trenutno trebaju brinuti oko mnogo toga što je možda važnije od jedne kornjače, činjenica je da je Shnappyjev nestanak uznemirio mnoge na Staten Islandu, piše Jutarnji list.
Oni njegov gotovo jednako veliki prijatelj Jeffrey nestali su prije dva tjedna, što je izazvalo val teorija zavjere o njihovoj sudbini. Mnogi mještani sumnjaju da su ih lovokradice ulovile za juhu, ali nitko to zapravo ne zna – sigurnosne kamere u parku nisu snimile kradljivce.
- Svjesni smo da su članovi zajednice raspravljali o navodnom uklanjanju kornjača iz ovog parka, ali nismo bili svjedoci tom događaju. NYC Parks nije izravno primio nikakve konkretne informacije o ljudima koji su uzimali divlje životinje iz parka Clove Lakes - rekao je glasnogovornik odjela za parkove Gregg McQueen za Guardian.
- Divlji svijet igra važnu ulogu u ekosustavu našeg grada i od ključne je važnosti da učinimo sve što možemo kako bismo zaštitili životinje koje obitavaju u parkovima i zelenim površinama našeg grada. Protuzakonito je odvoditi, ozljeđivati ili ubijati životinje u parkovima. Ako Njujorčani vide da netko to radi, trebali bi nazvati policiju - dodao je.
Nema sumnje da je nestanak Shnappyja, za kojeg se vjerovalo da je mužjak, i Jeffreyja, za kojeg se vjeruje da je možda ipak ženka, ostavio emocionalne posljedice na ljude koji žive na Staten Islandu.
- Jeffrey je ovdje oduvijek - rekla je Natacha Beck, domaćica u Stone Houseu, restoranu s pogledom na jezero. Uvjerena je da, ako ih je netko odveo, morao je znati o kome se radi, jer su kornjače zaista bile poznate.
Smatra se da je Shnappy star između 50 i 75 godina i bio je poznat po svojim čestim seksualnim aktivnostima. Iako druga kornjača ima muško ime, svi su na kraju zaključili da se ipak radi o ženki jer su ih vidjeli kako se pare. Osim toga, uvijek su plivali zajedno, tako da je očigledno riječ o paru.
Mnogi strahuju da su kornjače otete zbog mesa, jer to ne bi bio prvi put. Prije pet godina je policija je ispitala pet žena u Brooklynu, jer su namamile kornjače iz vode, a onda ih spremile u vreće.
