"Rimini" je najkontroverzniji film ovogodišnjeg FMFS-a, a "Sundown" najzvučniji. I najneobičniji. "Zalazak sunca" je novi film nagrađivanog meksičkog redatelja Michela Franca ("Nakon Lucije", "Novi poredak") sa zvučnim glumačkim imenima u glavnim ulogama – Timom Rothom ("Psi iz rezervoara", "Pakleni šund") i Charlotte Gainsbourg ("Antikrist", "Nimfomanka"). Neobičnost filma očituje se, pak, u tome da Franco ne daje odgovore na brojna pitanja u vezi priče, tj. Rothova lika.

Redatelj čak ni ne postavlja pitanja, za razliku od gledatelja, kamoli da nudi odgovore. A kad se ključno pitanje naglas i postavi, kad Gainsbourg u ime svih nas pita Rotha "Što izvodiš?!" i "Koji ti je k...?", Franco ne žuri da njezin lik i gledatelj dobiju odgovor, ako će ga uopće i dobiti. Takav pristup bi neke mogao iznervirati, ali i zaintrigirati, možda čak i fascinirati, što sugerira da je film angažirajućeg karaktera.

Franco i glumački uobičajeno odlični Roth uspijevaju balansirati između tih dviju krajnosti i navesti gledatelja da sa zanimanjem prati kako se razvija karakterizacija lika i priča filma kojemu se najbolje prepustiti bez predznanja, uključujući čitanje ove recenzije i gledanje foršpana.

"Sundown" je škrt na dijalozima i komunicira vizualnim jezikom i govorom tijela protagonista, pri čemu Franco navodi gledatelja na krive pretpostavke, kao i prva rečenica službenog sinopsisa filma – "Alice i Neil, potomci bogate britanske obitelji Bennett, provode bezbrižno ljetovanje u meksičkom Acapulcu sa svojom djecom Alexom i Colinom".

Sukladno tome i uvodnim scenama, lako je pretpostaviti da su Neil i Alice (Roth, Gainsbourg) muž i žena, a da su Alex i Colin (Albertine Kotting McMillan, Samuel Bottomley) plod njihova braka. S takvom pretpostavkom, Neilovi postupci se još više dovode u pitanje.

Nakon znakovitog uvodnog kadra riba kako dišu na škrge na suhom, Franco prikazuje idilične i lukzusne obiteljske trenutke u Meksiku, ali idila nije dugog vijeka i prekida je košmarna situacija. Alice dobiva poziv da je njezina mama loše i da je vode u bolnicu. "Počnite se pakirati i budite brzi", govori Alice i obitelj užurbano hita prema aerodromu, da bi usred vožnje uslijedio još jedan poziv i još gora vijest – mama je preminula.

Kad obitelj dođe na aerodrom, Neil otkriva da je zaboravio putovnicu koja mu je ostala u hotelu i predlaže da oni odu doma, a da će on doći idućim letom. Ispostavlja se da Neil laže kad sjedne u prvi taksi i od taksiste zatraži da ga odveze u prvi hotel, ne onaj gdje je do maloprije odsjeo s familijom.

Neil nonšalantno nastavlja s odmorom i laže Alice da mu još traže pasoš itd. On uživa u moru, suncu i društvu mlade i zgodne lokalne prodavačice Berenice (Iazua Larios), dok se neodgovoreni pozivi i poruke gomilaju na njegovu mobitelu. Kad Berenice upita Neila je li oženjen/ima li djecu i on kaže da nije/nema, gledatelj misli da opet laže, da bismo tek potom dobili potvrdu da je Alice njegova sestra, a Alex i Colin nećaci.

Svejedno, ni to ne ide u prilog Neilu jer, dakle, umrla je i njegova majka i napustio je sestru i nećake u najtežim trenucima. Doista, što Neil izvodi i koji mu je k...? Zar je digao ruke od svega? Zakopao moralni kompas u pijesku meksičke plaže? Je li ovo njegov vid žalovanja? Proživljava li (egzistencijalnu) krizu srednjih godina? Da on nije neki sociopat? Je li film preslik (njegova) snoviđenja?

Dosta toga je intrigirajuće nesigurno, dvosmisleno pa i nadrealno u Francovoj drami koja gubi ponešto snage kad prema kraju (s)krene u smjeru nekakve (dvojbene) sigurnosti, smislenosti i realnosti, odnosno postane "francovski" portret još jedne disfunkcionalne obitelji i društveno-politički komentar tamne strane Meksika, gdje Neil strši svojim društvenim statusom i svijetlom puti.

Na površini je Acapulco raj za odmor, san snova svakog turista, oslikan najsunčanijim bojama u leći kamere dikretora fotografije Yvesa Capea, ali svako malo tu površinu uznemiri neki kriminalni čin iz noćne more. Neki tipovi će niotkuda dojuriti vodenim skuterom i izvršiti atentat na plaži usred bijela dana ili izvesti oružani prepad na automobil u vožnji u šokantnom trećem činu filma, kad se "Zalazak sunca" počinje gledati nešto drukčijim očima.

"Rimini" je najkontroverzniji film ovogodišnjeg FMFS-a, a "Sundown" najzvučniji. I najneobičniji. "Zalazak sunca" je novi film nagrađivanog meksičkog redatelja Michela Franca ("Nakon Lucije", "Novi poredak") sa zvučnim glumačkim imenima u glavnim ulogama – Timom Rothom ("Psi iz rezervoara", "Pakleni šund") i Charlotte Gainsbourg ("Antikrist", "Nimfomanka"). Neobičnost filma očituje se, pak, u tome da Franco ne daje odgovore na brojna pitanja u vezi priče, tj. Rothova lika.

Redatelj čak ni ne postavlja pitanja, za razliku od gledatelja, kamoli da nudi odgovore. A kad se ključno pitanje naglas i postavi, kad Gainsbourg u ime svih nas pita Rotha "Što izvodiš?!" i "Koji ti je k...?", Franco ne žuri da njezin lik i gledatelj dobiju odgovor, ako će ga uopće i dobiti. Takav pristup bi neke mogao iznervirati, ali i zaintrigirati, možda čak i fascinirati, što sugerira da je film angažirajućeg karaktera.

Franco i glumački uobičajeno odlični Roth uspijevaju balansirati između tih dviju krajnosti i navesti gledatelja da sa zanimanjem prati kako se razvija karakterizacija lika i priča filma kojemu se najbolje prepustiti bez predznanja, uključujući čitanje ove recenzije i gledanje foršpana.

"Sundown" je škrt na dijalozima i komunicira vizualnim jezikom i govorom tijela protagonista, pri čemu Franco navodi gledatelja na krive pretpostavke, kao i prva rečenica službenog sinopsisa filma – "Alice i Neil, potomci bogate britanske obitelji Bennett, provode bezbrižno ljetovanje u meksičkom Acapulcu sa svojom djecom Alexom i Colinom".

Sukladno tome i uvodnim scenama, lako je pretpostaviti da su Neil i Alice (Roth, Gainsbourg) muž i žena, a da su Alex i Colin (Albertine Kotting McMillan, Samuel Bottomley) plod njihova braka. S takvom pretpostavkom, Neilovi postupci se još više dovode u pitanje.

Nakon znakovitog uvodnog kadra riba kako dišu na škrge na suhom, Franco prikazuje idilične i lukzusne obiteljske trenutke u Meksiku, ali idila nije dugog vijeka i prekida je košmarna situacija. Alice dobiva poziv da je njezina mama loše i da je vode u bolnicu. "Počnite se pakirati i budite brzi", govori Alice i obitelj užurbano hita prema aerodromu, da bi usred vožnje uslijedio još jedan poziv i još gora vijest – mama je preminula.

Kad obitelj dođe na aerodrom, Neil otkriva da je zaboravio putovnicu koja mu je ostala u hotelu i predlaže da oni odu doma, a da će on doći idućim letom. Ispostavlja se da Neil laže kad sjedne u prvi taksi i od taksiste zatraži da ga odveze u prvi hotel, ne onaj gdje je do maloprije odsjeo s familijom.

Neil nonšalantno nastavlja s odmorom i laže Alice da mu još traže pasoš itd. On uživa u moru, suncu i društvu mlade i zgodne lokalne prodavačice Berenice (Iazua Larios), dok se neodgovoreni pozivi i poruke gomilaju na njegovu mobitelu. Kad Berenice upita Neila je li oženjen/ima li djecu i on kaže da nije/nema, gledatelj misli da opet laže, da bismo tek potom dobili potvrdu da je Alice njegova sestra, a Alex i Colin nećaci.

Svejedno, ni to ne ide u prilog Neilu jer, dakle, umrla je i njegova majka i napustio je sestru i nećake u najtežim trenucima. Doista, što Neil izvodi i koji mu je k...? Zar je digao ruke od svega? Zakopao moralni kompas u pijesku meksičke plaže? Je li ovo njegov vid žalovanja? Proživljava li (egzistencijalnu) krizu srednjih godina? Da on nije neki sociopat? Je li film preslik (njegova) snoviđenja?

Dosta toga je intrigirajuće nesigurno, dvosmisleno pa i nadrealno u Francovoj drami koja gubi ponešto snage kad prema kraju (s)krene u smjeru nekakve (dvojbene) sigurnosti, smislenosti i realnosti, odnosno postane "francovski" portret još jedne disfunkcionalne obitelji i društveno-politički komentar tamne strane Meksika, gdje Neil strši svojim društvenim statusom i svijetlom puti.

Na površini je Acapulco raj za odmor, san snova svakog turista, oslikan najsunčanijim bojama u leći kamere dikretora fotografije Yvesa Capea, ali svako malo tu površinu uznemiri neki kriminalni čin iz noćne more. Neki tipovi će niotkuda dojuriti vodenim skuterom i izvršiti atentat na plaži usred bijela dana ili izvesti oružani prepad na automobil u vožnji u šokantnom trećem činu filma, kad se "Zalazak sunca" počinje gledati nešto drukčijim očima.

Tima Rotha ćemo gledati u još jednom festivalskom art filmu početkom srpnja u hrvatskim kinima. To je "Bergmanov otok" redateljice MIje Hansen-Love u kojem Roth glumi s Vicky Krieps i Mijom Wasikowskom.
