Tribecca Festival ugostio je još 2019. premijeru filma "Gully", no nakon toga za njega se nije čulo sve do početka ljeta 2021. godine. Korona je stavila na led film koji je krenuo u limitiranu kinodistribuciju tek ljetos, u lipnju, gdje se nije proslavio, zaradivši svega 36.000 dolara.

Tada je potpisnik ovih redaka opet čuo za film i zaboravio na njega dok nije stigao u hrvatske "online" videoteke, preveden kao "Tjesnac". Od lipnja do listopada "Gully" je doživio još veći debakl i na najpopularnijoj filmskoj internet-stranici IMDb-u. Naime, tamo ima ocjenu 1.2 od 10!?!

Zar je moguće da je tako slabo ocijenjen film koji se razvijao u sklopu Sundance Institutea, dakle nezavisna drama, a ne neki žanrovski "mish-mash" trash tipa "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus" (vjerovali ili ne, potonji ima veću ocjenu od čak 2.5/10)?

K tome, film u kojem glume mlade nade glumišta poput Charlieja Plummera ("Moj prijatelj Pete", "Spontano"), kao i Jonathan Mayors ("Posljednji crnac u San Franciscu"), Amber Heard ("Svi vole Mandy Lane", "Aquaman"), John Corbett ("Život na sjeveru", "Moje grčko vjenčanje 1&2") i Terrence Howard ("Fatalna nesreća", "Iron Man")?

To je valjda najmanja ocjena koju su oči ovog kritičara ikad vidjele na IMDb-u, a sugerira najgori film u povijesti kinematografije ili jedan od najgorih. Je li "Tjesnac" odgovara toj krajnje nelaskavoj tituli? Ipak ne. "Gully" je slabašan pa i loš film, krajnje nefokusiran i neuredan, no vidjeli smo lošije i ove godine (npr. "He's All That"), kamoli svih vremena.

Redatelj Nabil Elderkin je zakazao u svom prvom pokušaju prelaska iz svijeta videospotova u svijet filma, odakle su stigli brojni danas poznati filmaši poput Davida Finchera, Michaela Baya, Alexa Proyasa, Antoinea Fuque, Gorea Verbinskog, Marka Pellingtona, Jonathana Glazera, Michela Gondryja, Spikea Jonzea, Simona Westa, Dominica Sene...

Očekivalo se da će tranzicija biti bezbolnija. Elderkin je pokazao talent u kratkometražnoj formi, na spotovima za popularne izvođače poput Johna Legenda, Bruna Marsa, Franka Oceana i Kedricka Lamara, no ovdje se nažalost nije iskazao. Protiv njega je radio i scenarij Marcusa J. Guilloryja, prepun idejne raštrkanosti, likova tanjih od papira i nenadahnutih općih mjesta.

Gledajući "Tjesnac" mogli biste imati osjećaj da načelno kužite što je pjesnik htio reći, ali i da ne zna kako bi željeno točno rekao, bilo da to treba reći tekstom (Guillory) ili slikom (Elderkin). Scenarist i redatelj žele reći nešto mudro o životu i nasilju, no ne uspijevaju se izraziti pretencioznom naracijom u "voice-overu" i filozofijom beskućnika-proroka (Howard), odnosno kvazi-artističkim kadrovima.

Nedvojbeno, Elderkin i Guillory su htjeli napraviti "Boyz n the Hood" i "Menace II Society" za novo nasilno doba videoigara itd., neovisno o tome što je jedan od njihove trojice "žestokih momaka", "opasnih po društvo", bijelac, Nicky (Plummer), najbolji prijatelj Jesseja i Calvina (Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jacob Latimore). Rijetki vizualno interesantni momenti filma tiču se kadrova koji preslikavaju videoigru a la "Grand Theft Auto V", na način da se naši igrači naoružavaju, nadograđuju vozila itd.

No, Elderkin i Guillory pucaju sebi u prst koji upire u kritiku videiogara jer ubrzo napuštaju takav izričaj i nastanjuju se u standardnim, nimalo nadahnutim prikazima nasumičnog nasilja iz geta. Nasilje rađa nasilje, tako da nije čudno što su Jessie, Calvin i Nicky postali utjelovljenje svega onoga što su doživljavali od malih nogu, recimo da otac jednog od njih nekome razbije glavu bejzbol-palicom.

Međutim, čudno je da gledatelj, unatoč stanovitom trudu glumaca, ne osjeća ama baš ništa prema ijednom liku tijekom njihovih divljanja, ludovanja, ispada nasilja i promjena raspoloženja, kao što je osjećao nešto, pače štošta prema likovima iz filma "Boyz n the Hood" i "Menace II Society". Film je prilično hladan i distanciran, bez brige prema likovima da osjećate kako im želi dobro i izlazak iz tjesnaca nasilja i tragedije dok "plešu od sna do sna između noćnih mora".

Tribecca Festival ugostio je još 2019. premijeru filma "Gully", no nakon toga za njega se nije čulo sve do početka ljeta 2021. godine. Korona je stavila na led film koji je krenuo u limitiranu kinodistribuciju tek ljetos, u lipnju, gdje se nije proslavio, zaradivši svega 36.000 dolara.

Tada je potpisnik ovih redaka opet čuo za film i zaboravio na njega dok nije stigao u hrvatske "online" videoteke, preveden kao "Tjesnac". Od lipnja do listopada "Gully" je doživio još veći debakl i na najpopularnijoj filmskoj internet-stranici IMDb-u. Naime, tamo ima ocjenu 1.2 od 10!?!

Zar je moguće da je tako slabo ocijenjen film koji se razvijao u sklopu Sundance Institutea, dakle nezavisna drama, a ne neki žanrovski "mish-mash" trash tipa "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus" (vjerovali ili ne, potonji ima veću ocjenu od čak 2.5/10)?

K tome, film u kojem glume mlade nade glumišta poput Charlieja Plummera ("Moj prijatelj Pete", "Spontano"), kao i Jonathan Mayors ("Posljednji crnac u San Franciscu"), Amber Heard ("Svi vole Mandy Lane", "Aquaman"), John Corbett ("Život na sjeveru", "Moje grčko vjenčanje 1&2") i Terrence Howard ("Fatalna nesreća", "Iron Man")?

To je valjda najmanja ocjena koju su oči ovog kritičara ikad vidjele na IMDb-u, a sugerira najgori film u povijesti kinematografije ili jedan od najgorih. Je li "Tjesnac" odgovara toj krajnje nelaskavoj tituli? Ipak ne. "Gully" je slabašan pa i loš film, krajnje nefokusiran i neuredan, no vidjeli smo lošije i ove godine (npr. "He's All That"), kamoli svih vremena.

Redatelj Nabil Elderkin je zakazao u svom prvom pokušaju prelaska iz svijeta videospotova u svijet filma, odakle su stigli brojni danas poznati filmaši poput Davida Finchera, Michaela Baya, Alexa Proyasa, Antoinea Fuque, Gorea Verbinskog, Marka Pellingtona, Jonathana Glazera, Michela Gondryja, Spikea Jonzea, Simona Westa, Dominica Sene...

Očekivalo se da će tranzicija biti bezbolnija. Elderkin je pokazao talent u kratkometražnoj formi, na spotovima za popularne izvođače poput Johna Legenda, Bruna Marsa, Franka Oceana i Kedricka Lamara, no ovdje se nažalost nije iskazao. Protiv njega je radio i scenarij Marcusa J. Guilloryja, prepun idejne raštrkanosti, likova tanjih od papira i nenadahnutih općih mjesta.

Gledajući "Tjesnac" mogli biste imati osjećaj da načelno kužite što je pjesnik htio reći, ali i da ne zna kako bi željeno točno rekao, bilo da to treba reći tekstom (Guillory) ili slikom (Elderkin). Scenarist i redatelj žele reći nešto mudro o životu i nasilju, no ne uspijevaju se izraziti pretencioznom naracijom u "voice-overu" i filozofijom beskućnika-proroka (Howard), odnosno kvazi-artističkim kadrovima.

Nedvojbeno, Elderkin i Guillory su htjeli napraviti "Boyz n the Hood" i "Menace II Society" za novo nasilno doba videoigara itd., neovisno o tome što je jedan od njihove trojice "žestokih momaka", "opasnih po društvo", bijelac, Nicky (Plummer), najbolji prijatelj Jesseja i Calvina (Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jacob Latimore). Rijetki vizualno interesantni momenti filma tiču se kadrova koji preslikavaju videoigru a la "Grand Theft Auto V", na način da se naši igrači naoružavaju, nadograđuju vozila itd.

No, Elderkin i Guillory pucaju sebi u prst koji upire u kritiku videiogara jer ubrzo napuštaju takav izričaj i nastanjuju se u standardnim, nimalo nadahnutim prikazima nasumičnog nasilja iz geta. Nasilje rađa nasilje, tako da nije čudno što su Jessie, Calvin i Nicky postali utjelovljenje svega onoga što su doživljavali od malih nogu, recimo da otac jednog od njih nekome razbije glavu bejzbol-palicom.

Međutim, čudno je da gledatelj, unatoč stanovitom trudu glumaca, ne osjeća ama baš ništa prema ijednom liku tijekom njihovih divljanja, ludovanja, ispada nasilja i promjena raspoloženja, kao što je osjećao nešto, pače štošta prema likovima iz filma "Boyz n the Hood" i "Menace II Society". Film je prilično hladan i distanciran, bez brige prema likovima da osjećate kako im želi dobro i izlazak iz tjesnaca nasilja i tragedije dok "plešu od sna do sna između noćnih mora".
