Spasi svoju obitelj ili spasi čovječanstvo. Ti biraš... Izbor je nezahvalan u novom “high concept” filmu čuvenog redatelja i scenarista M. Night Shyamalana “Netko kuca na vrata kolibe” (“Knock At The Cabin”). Visoki koncepti su Shyamalanov zaštitni znak od “Šestog čula”, kad se nametnuo kao majstor hororsko-trilerskih misterija s “twist&shout” preokretom u završnom činu koji obično šokira gledatelja (“Neslomljivi”, “Zaselak”)...

Znao se Shyamalan priklanjati apokalitičnim vizijama nakon megahita “Misteriozni znakovi” (“Događaj”, “Zemlja: Novi početak”), čak i blockbusterskom izričaju (“Posljednji airbender”), ali s vremenom se vratio korijenima (“Posjeta”, “Podvojen”, “Glass”, “Ostarjeli”).

Naime, “Netko kuca na vrata kolibe” je film koji srasta shyamalanovski misteriozno-hororski koncept s “twistom” i apokaliptičan scenarij, a osnovna ideja začudo nije plod njegove mašte, već nadahnuta romanom Paula Tremblayja “The Cabin At The End Of The World”.

Onaj izbor s početka teksta snaći će jednu malu obitelj kad im na vrata kolibe u šumi bane četvero ljudi. Sve započinje pojavom jednog od njih, Leonarda (Dave Bautista kao gorostas s naočalama za vid kao u “Blade Runneru 2049”), koji zatječe malu Wen (Kristen Cui) kako se igra u šumi.

”Zašto si ovdje?”, zanima se klinka. “Vas troje ćete morati donijeti važne odluke, grozne odluke”, najavljuje Leonard. Kad Leonard s Redmondom, Ardiane i Sabrinom (Rupert Grint, Abby Quinn, Nikki Amuka-Bird), posjeti Wenine očeve Erica i Andrewa (Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge), doznajemo da mala obitelj mora žrtvovati jednog člana da se preventira apokalipsa, a samoubojstvo nije opcija.

”Hoće li biti kraj svijeta ili ne, ovisi o vas troje”, govore stranci koji su imali vizije nadolazeće apokalipse i zato su stigli na prag ove familije s oružjem u rukama. “Nemamo izbora”, ističu oni. “Uvijek postoji izbor”, pokušavaju ih uvjeriti sputani očevi. Stranci ne žele nasilje, osim ako ne budu prisiljeni.

O čemu se ovdje radi? Jesu li Leonard i ekipa četiri jahača apokalipse? Je li samo pate od kolektivne psihoze? Ili su, možda, luđaci kao oni iz filmova “Stranci” Briana Bertina i “Šašave igre” Michaela Hanekea? “Knock At The Cabin” nesumnjivo koketira s “home invasion” horor-trilerom kao što su “The Strangers” i “Funny Games”.

Moguće i da je sve slučajnost. Jer, iako se čini da su se golemi tsunamiji pojavili na vijestima nedugo nakon Andrewova nijekanja žrtvovanja, kasnije doznajemo da je upozorenje za plimne valove bilo izdano prije nego što su se Leonard i ostali uopće pojavili.

Svakako, “Netko kuca na vrata kolibe” zvuči intrigantno i izazovno, no ispostavlja se da je Shyamalan tek sporadično nadahnut u razvijanju koncepta i postizanju atmosfere, moguće opterećen novim sezonama serije “Servant” i zadovoljavanjem nameta novovjeke političke korektnosti i diverziteta (gay očevi, posvojena azijska djevojčica, tamnoputa “strankinja”).

Koncept je zanimljiviji od samoga (pomalo razočaravajućeg) filma koji ima plemenitu notu o spašavanju ljudske rase i uopće ljudskosti, što djeluje katarzički u doba post-covida (kao pošast se spominje i “smrtonosna gripa”), ali ne uspijeva do kraja uvući gledatelja u priču i izvući na površinu unutarnje borbe suprostavljenih likova dok pokušava biti studija morala zainteresirana za ljudsko ponašanje, sudbinu čovječanstva i svemira.

K tome, misterija nije toliko misteriozna, triler nije “suspenseovski” napet za gristi note, niti je horor tako strašan, a i završetak je odveć antiklimatički da podigne “Knock At The Cabin” na veću razinu prethodnog Shyamalanova filma “Old”, tj. barem iznad nekakvog žanrovskog prosjeka. Osim potentne premise, koja je možda tražila kratkometražnu formu, najveću pohvalu zaslužuje Bautista (“Čuvari galaksije”, “Vojska mrtvih”, “Dina”, “Nož u leđa 2”).

Bivšem kečeru je ovo najbolja uloga nakon nastupa u “Blade Runneru 2049”. A Shyamalan? “Netko kuca na vrata kolibe” je korak unatrag nakon “Ostarjelog”. Ipak, njegovi zagriženi obožavatelji mogu pokucati na vrata kolibe, ali i poželjeti da njegov idući film bude bolji. Da kucnemo o drvo.

Zanimljivo, Shyamalan je angažirao dva direktora fotografije, Jarina Blaschkea ("Svjetionik", "Sjevernjak") i Lowella A. Meyera ("Servant").

Spasi svoju obitelj ili spasi čovječanstvo. Ti biraš... Izbor je nezahvalan u novom “high concept” filmu čuvenog redatelja i scenarista M. Night Shyamalana “Netko kuca na vrata kolibe” (“Knock At The Cabin”). Visoki koncepti su Shyamalanov zaštitni znak od “Šestog čula”, kad se nametnuo kao majstor hororsko-trilerskih misterija s “twist&shout” preokretom u završnom činu koji obično šokira gledatelja (“Neslomljivi”, “Zaselak”)...

Znao se Shyamalan priklanjati apokalitičnim vizijama nakon megahita “Misteriozni znakovi” (“Događaj”, “Zemlja: Novi početak”), čak i blockbusterskom izričaju (“Posljednji airbender”), ali s vremenom se vratio korijenima (“Posjeta”, “Podvojen”, “Glass”, “Ostarjeli”).

Naime, “Netko kuca na vrata kolibe” je film koji srasta shyamalanovski misteriozno-hororski koncept s “twistom” i apokaliptičan scenarij, a osnovna ideja začudo nije plod njegove mašte, već nadahnuta romanom Paula Tremblayja “The Cabin At The End Of The World”.

Onaj izbor s početka teksta snaći će jednu malu obitelj kad im na vrata kolibe u šumi bane četvero ljudi. Sve započinje pojavom jednog od njih, Leonarda (Dave Bautista kao gorostas s naočalama za vid kao u “Blade Runneru 2049”), koji zatječe malu Wen (Kristen Cui) kako se igra u šumi.

”Zašto si ovdje?”, zanima se klinka. “Vas troje ćete morati donijeti važne odluke, grozne odluke”, najavljuje Leonard. Kad Leonard s Redmondom, Ardiane i Sabrinom (Rupert Grint, Abby Quinn, Nikki Amuka-Bird), posjeti Wenine očeve Erica i Andrewa (Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge), doznajemo da mala obitelj mora žrtvovati jednog člana da se preventira apokalipsa, a samoubojstvo nije opcija.

”Hoće li biti kraj svijeta ili ne, ovisi o vas troje”, govore stranci koji su imali vizije nadolazeće apokalipse i zato su stigli na prag ove familije s oružjem u rukama. “Nemamo izbora”, ističu oni. “Uvijek postoji izbor”, pokušavaju ih uvjeriti sputani očevi. Stranci ne žele nasilje, osim ako ne budu prisiljeni.

O čemu se ovdje radi? Jesu li Leonard i ekipa četiri jahača apokalipse? Je li samo pate od kolektivne psihoze? Ili su, možda, luđaci kao oni iz filmova “Stranci” Briana Bertina i “Šašave igre” Michaela Hanekea? “Knock At The Cabin” nesumnjivo koketira s “home invasion” horor-trilerom kao što su “The Strangers” i “Funny Games”.

Moguće i da je sve slučajnost. Jer, iako se čini da su se golemi tsunamiji pojavili na vijestima nedugo nakon Andrewova nijekanja žrtvovanja, kasnije doznajemo da je upozorenje za plimne valove bilo izdano prije nego što su se Leonard i ostali uopće pojavili.

Svakako, “Netko kuca na vrata kolibe” zvuči intrigantno i izazovno, no ispostavlja se da je Shyamalan tek sporadično nadahnut u razvijanju koncepta i postizanju atmosfere, moguće opterećen novim sezonama serije “Servant” i zadovoljavanjem nameta novovjeke političke korektnosti i diverziteta (gay očevi, posvojena azijska djevojčica, tamnoputa “strankinja”).

Koncept je zanimljiviji od samoga (pomalo razočaravajućeg) filma koji ima plemenitu notu o spašavanju ljudske rase i uopće ljudskosti, što djeluje katarzički u doba post-covida (kao pošast se spominje i “smrtonosna gripa”), ali ne uspijeva do kraja uvući gledatelja u priču i izvući na površinu unutarnje borbe suprostavljenih likova dok pokušava biti studija morala zainteresirana za ljudsko ponašanje, sudbinu čovječanstva i svemira.

K tome, misterija nije toliko misteriozna, triler nije “suspenseovski” napet za gristi note, niti je horor tako strašan, a i završetak je odveć antiklimatički da podigne “Knock At The Cabin” na veću razinu prethodnog Shyamalanova filma “Old”, tj. barem iznad nekakvog žanrovskog prosjeka. Osim potentne premise, koja je možda tražila kratkometražnu formu, najveću pohvalu zaslužuje Bautista (“Čuvari galaksije”, “Vojska mrtvih”, “Dina”, “Nož u leđa 2”).

Bivšem kečeru je ovo najbolja uloga nakon nastupa u “Blade Runneru 2049”. A Shyamalan? “Netko kuca na vrata kolibe” je korak unatrag nakon “Ostarjelog”. Ipak, njegovi zagriženi obožavatelji mogu pokucati na vrata kolibe, ali i poželjeti da njegov idući film bude bolji. Da kucnemo o drvo.

Zanimljivo, Shyamalan je angažirao dva direktora fotografije, Jarina Blaschkea ("Svjetionik", "Sjevernjak") i Lowella A. Meyera ("Servant").
