Sastojci klasičnog filma o hrani, kuharima ili kuhanju opstoje u “Meniju (“The Menu”). Naizgled je ovo novi prilog “food/cooking/chef movies” trendu, koji su unatrag desetak godina formirali “Julie i Julia”, “Soul Kitchen”, “Indijski začin na francuski način”, “Glavni kuhar”, “Pogrešna dostava”, “Paklena kuhinja”...

Međutim, redateljski “chef” Mark Mylod (serija “Naslijeđe”) kuha film na drukčijoj temperaturi i dodaje na “Meni” oštru satiru i nepredvidljivi triler, crnu i crvenu komediju, mračni humor i krvavi horor.

Bilo je satiričnih filmova na temu konzumiranja hrane, tj. jedenja do smrti, recimo “Veliko prežderavanje” Marca Ferrerija s Marcellom Mastroiannijem i Michelom Piccolijem te “Smisao života Montyja Pythona” (mr. Creosote ždere dok ne eksplodira), ali ne i hororsko-trilerskih koji su djelomično inspirirani Dr. Lecterom, Jigsawom i Agathom Christie.

Ukratko, “The Menu” je prilično unikatan, a najbolje ga je doživjeti na “prazan želudac”, bez prethodnoga gledanja foršpana, pa i čitanja ove recenzije, koliko god da će, kao i uvijek, biti maksimalno lišena “spoilera”. Bazična premisa odvodi grupu bogataša-stranaca na mali izolirani otok, gdje će im legendarni “chef” Slowik (izvrsni Ralph Fiennes) pripremiti četvero-i-pol-satni “haute cuisine” objed u tamošnjem svjetski poznatom restoranu “Hawthorne”.

Dvadeset klijenata, 1250 dolara po glavi. ”Zar jedemo Rolex?”, Margot (kulerica Anya Taylor-Joy) pita Tylera (Nicholas Hoult) koji ju je u zadnji čas poveo kao pratnju na “kušanje za moćnike” i ona se vidno ne uklapa među lovaše.

Među gostima se nalaze i vodeća kritičarka hrane (Janet McTeer) i njezin urednik (Paul Adelstein), filmska zvijezda ugasla sjaja (John Leguizamo) i njegova asistentica (Aimee Carrero), jedan stariji bračni par (Reed Birney, Judith Light) i tri nadmena mlada biznismena (Arturo Castro, Rob Yang, Mark St. Cyr), zaposlena u tvrtki vlasnika restorana “Hawthorne”.

”Nastojat ćemo vam prirediti što ugodniju večer... večeras ćemo vas sa zadovoljstvom hraniti”, obećava se gostima, uz naputke “kušajte, nemojte jesti, naš meni je odveć profinjen za to”. Ipak, da je nešto tu malo čudno vidljivo je po nastupu “chefa” koji se “pridržava najvećeg standarda”, ali je postrojio osoblje kuhinje kao vojnike.

On prije svakog slijeda voli održati strastveni, filozofski, pomalo i teatralni govor o povijesti pojedinog jela s istančanim detaljima (sastojci su navedeni na ekranu) te održati bukvicu lovašima ukazujući na klasne razlike između onih koji imaju i onih koji nemaju, preplaćenih i potplaćenih, sve s crnim smislom za humor.

”Mi smo prestrašena nanosekunda, priroda je vječna”, kaže “chef” koji se “igra sirovim materijalima samog života i smrti”. Tako, primjerice, “Hawthorne” ne služi kruh jer to je hrana za pučane, a gosti to nisu. “Jest ćete manje nego želite i više nego zaslužujete”, došapne “chefova” desna ruka Elsa (Hong Chau) jednom od mladih biznismena.

Ubrzo jela nose osobnu (o)poruku za svakog moralno korumpiranog gosta, tipa da se referiraju na restorane zatvorene nakon recenzije pretenciozne i snobovske gastro-kritičarke koja jednu morsku deliciju opiše riječima “vrlo talasično” (“oceanski”). “Smatrajte se sastojcima u konceptu degustiranja”, poručuje Slowik gostima.

Ovdje valja stati da se ne zađe na teritorij “spoilera” u vezi prelaska filma na teritorij horora, odnosno prepustiti gledatelje iščekivanju i dopustiti im da sami otkriju nenadane šokantne preokrete i shvate na što točno Tyler misli kad kaže: “Evo šoka, nisam to očekivao.”

No, može se nastaviti pisati o satiričkoj potki priče, glavnom sastojku “Menija”. Ovo je “eat the rich” satira koja grize, britka kritika kapitalizma, konzumerizma, “haute cuisine” kulture. Na meti filma su pohlepne društvene elite koje jedu i uzimaju, proždiru sve pred sobom.

Bogataši više hrane ego nego želuce plaćajući tisuće dolara za “fine dining” i jedući hranu koja će se, podsjeća Slowik, u njihovu stomaku pretvoriti u znate već što. I ne samo to, oni poslije zaboravljaju ono što su pojeli, kao što se mnogi danas, u eri posvemašnjega konzumerizma i površnosti, ne sjećaju onoga što su pogledali, poslušali ili pročitali.

“The Menu” je i autoironičan film, idealan za kinomaraton s “Trokutom tuge” budući da dijele satirični, antibogataški sentiment i preporučuju stari dobri klasični hamburger-cheeseburger kao spasonosnu kontru “fine diningu”. Dobar tek.

Glumci iz ‘Mad Maxa‘

Redatelj Mark Mylod je pažnju na sebe skrenuo romantičnom komedijom "Koji je tvoj broj", a kalio se režirajući serije poput "Game Of Thrones", "Shameless", "Amazing Stories"... Nicholas Hoult je, zanimljivo, glumio u filmu "Pobješnjeli Max: Divlja cesta", gdje je predstavljena akcijska heroina Furiosa, koju će u prednastavku glumiti Anya Taylor-Joy.

Sastojci klasičnog filma o hrani, kuharima ili kuhanju opstoje u “Meniju (“The Menu”). Naizgled je ovo novi prilog “food/cooking/chef movies” trendu, koji su unatrag desetak godina formirali “Julie i Julia”, “Soul Kitchen”, “Indijski začin na francuski način”, “Glavni kuhar”, “Pogrešna dostava”, “Paklena kuhinja”...

Međutim, redateljski “chef” Mark Mylod (serija “Naslijeđe”) kuha film na drukčijoj temperaturi i dodaje na “Meni” oštru satiru i nepredvidljivi triler, crnu i crvenu komediju, mračni humor i krvavi horor.

Bilo je satiričnih filmova na temu konzumiranja hrane, tj. jedenja do smrti, recimo “Veliko prežderavanje” Marca Ferrerija s Marcellom Mastroiannijem i Michelom Piccolijem te “Smisao života Montyja Pythona” (mr. Creosote ždere dok ne eksplodira), ali ne i hororsko-trilerskih koji su djelomično inspirirani Dr. Lecterom, Jigsawom i Agathom Christie.

Ukratko, “The Menu” je prilično unikatan, a najbolje ga je doživjeti na “prazan želudac”, bez prethodnoga gledanja foršpana, pa i čitanja ove recenzije, koliko god da će, kao i uvijek, biti maksimalno lišena “spoilera”. Bazična premisa odvodi grupu bogataša-stranaca na mali izolirani otok, gdje će im legendarni “chef” Slowik (izvrsni Ralph Fiennes) pripremiti četvero-i-pol-satni “haute cuisine” objed u tamošnjem svjetski poznatom restoranu “Hawthorne”.

Dvadeset klijenata, 1250 dolara po glavi. ”Zar jedemo Rolex?”, Margot (kulerica Anya Taylor-Joy) pita Tylera (Nicholas Hoult) koji ju je u zadnji čas poveo kao pratnju na “kušanje za moćnike” i ona se vidno ne uklapa među lovaše.

Među gostima se nalaze i vodeća kritičarka hrane (Janet McTeer) i njezin urednik (Paul Adelstein), filmska zvijezda ugasla sjaja (John Leguizamo) i njegova asistentica (Aimee Carrero), jedan stariji bračni par (Reed Birney, Judith Light) i tri nadmena mlada biznismena (Arturo Castro, Rob Yang, Mark St. Cyr), zaposlena u tvrtki vlasnika restorana “Hawthorne”.

”Nastojat ćemo vam prirediti što ugodniju večer... večeras ćemo vas sa zadovoljstvom hraniti”, obećava se gostima, uz naputke “kušajte, nemojte jesti, naš meni je odveć profinjen za to”. Ipak, da je nešto tu malo čudno vidljivo je po nastupu “chefa” koji se “pridržava najvećeg standarda”, ali je postrojio osoblje kuhinje kao vojnike.

On prije svakog slijeda voli održati strastveni, filozofski, pomalo i teatralni govor o povijesti pojedinog jela s istančanim detaljima (sastojci su navedeni na ekranu) te održati bukvicu lovašima ukazujući na klasne razlike između onih koji imaju i onih koji nemaju, preplaćenih i potplaćenih, sve s crnim smislom za humor.

”Mi smo prestrašena nanosekunda, priroda je vječna”, kaže “chef” koji se “igra sirovim materijalima samog života i smrti”. Tako, primjerice, “Hawthorne” ne služi kruh jer to je hrana za pučane, a gosti to nisu. “Jest ćete manje nego želite i više nego zaslužujete”, došapne “chefova” desna ruka Elsa (Hong Chau) jednom od mladih biznismena.

Ubrzo jela nose osobnu (o)poruku za svakog moralno korumpiranog gosta, tipa da se referiraju na restorane zatvorene nakon recenzije pretenciozne i snobovske gastro-kritičarke koja jednu morsku deliciju opiše riječima “vrlo talasično” (“oceanski”). “Smatrajte se sastojcima u konceptu degustiranja”, poručuje Slowik gostima.

Ovdje valja stati da se ne zađe na teritorij “spoilera” u vezi prelaska filma na teritorij horora, odnosno prepustiti gledatelje iščekivanju i dopustiti im da sami otkriju nenadane šokantne preokrete i shvate na što točno Tyler misli kad kaže: “Evo šoka, nisam to očekivao.”

No, može se nastaviti pisati o satiričkoj potki priče, glavnom sastojku “Menija”. Ovo je “eat the rich” satira koja grize, britka kritika kapitalizma, konzumerizma, “haute cuisine” kulture. Na meti filma su pohlepne društvene elite koje jedu i uzimaju, proždiru sve pred sobom.

Bogataši više hrane ego nego želuce plaćajući tisuće dolara za “fine dining” i jedući hranu koja će se, podsjeća Slowik, u njihovu stomaku pretvoriti u znate već što. I ne samo to, oni poslije zaboravljaju ono što su pojeli, kao što se mnogi danas, u eri posvemašnjega konzumerizma i površnosti, ne sjećaju onoga što su pogledali, poslušali ili pročitali.

“The Menu” je i autoironičan film, idealan za kinomaraton s “Trokutom tuge” budući da dijele satirični, antibogataški sentiment i preporučuju stari dobri klasični hamburger-cheeseburger kao spasonosnu kontru “fine diningu”. Dobar tek.

Glumci iz ‘Mad Maxa‘

Redatelj Mark Mylod je pažnju na sebe skrenuo romantičnom komedijom "Koji je tvoj broj", a kalio se režirajući serije poput "Game Of Thrones", "Shameless", "Amazing Stories"... Nicholas Hoult je, zanimljivo, glumio u filmu "Pobješnjeli Max: Divlja cesta", gdje je predstavljena akcijska heroina Furiosa, koju će u prednastavku glumiti Anya Taylor-Joy.

Sastojci klasičnog filma o hrani, kuharima ili kuhanju opstoje u “Meniju (“The Menu”). Naizgled je ovo novi prilog “food/cooking/chef movies” trendu, koji su unatrag desetak godina formirali “Julie i Julia”, “Soul Kitchen”, “Indijski začin na francuski način”, “Glavni kuhar”, “Pogrešna dostava”, “Paklena kuhinja”...

Međutim, redateljski “chef” Mark Mylod (serija “Naslijeđe”) kuha film na drukčijoj temperaturi i dodaje na “Meni” oštru satiru i nepredvidljivi triler, crnu i crvenu komediju, mračni humor i krvavi horor.

Bilo je satiričnih filmova na temu konzumiranja hrane, tj. jedenja do smrti, recimo “Veliko prežderavanje” Marca Ferrerija s Marcellom Mastroiannijem i Michelom Piccolijem te “Smisao života Montyja Pythona” (mr. Cre...
