Snimanje filma? U Downtonu? Čuđenje starog batlera Carsona (Jim Carter) u filmu “Downton Abbey: Novo doba” prilično je dvoznačno. Carson se čudi što filmska ekipa dolazi na imanje postaviti set za viktorijansku melodramu “Kockar”.

Istodobno, njegova reakcija kao da oslikava čuđenje nekih pojedinaca što je “Downton Abbey” već drugi put od serije postao film, iako nije prva takva tranzicija u novije vrijeme ("Deadwood", "Breaking Bad", "Svi sveci mafije"), kamoli starije ("Nedodirljivi", "Nemoguća misija", "Bjegunac", "Dosjei X", "Svetac", "Charliejevi anđeli", "Seks i grad", "A-Team", "Pravednik").

Naime, “Downton Abbey: A New Era” nastavak je filma "Downton Abbey" iz 2019. koji je funkcionirao kao filmski produžetak popularne britanske serije. Je li se moglo proći bez filmskog “Downton Abbeyja”? Realno i jest, ali to se može reći i za zadnje dvije ili tri od ukupno šest sezona serije.

A ako je “Downton Abbey” načelno “nepotreban” u širem kinematografskom smislu, pokazalo se da je potreban fanovima, ako ne i slučajnim namjernicima.

Prvi “Downton Abbey” ostvario je iznenađujući uspjeh u godini kad su kinohitovi postali i sve samo ne tipični blockbusteri (“Bilo jednom u... Hollywoodu”, “Izazivač”, “Male žene”, “Parazit”, "Nož u leđa"), odnosno u vrijeme kad su se filmovi, obratnim procesom, sve češće počeli pretvarati u serije ("Hanna", "Četiri vjenčanja i sprovod" i "Dućan snova", "Čuvari", "Mandalorian", "Cobra Kai", "Chucky", "Jack Ryan" i "Treadstone", "Snowpiercer"...).

Gotovo 100 milijuna dolara u američkim kinima i više od 230 milijuna u svjetskima zaradio je “Downton Abbey”, potvrdivši da za likove serije ima mjesta i na velikom ekranu, ne samo malom, u inat “nevjernim Tomama”.

Novi redatelj Simon Curtis, poznat po filmskim ostvarenjima "Moj tjedan s Marilyn", "Zbogom, Christopher Robin" i "Nevjerojatni život psa Enza", ponaša se kao da snima "movie", nekakav "Mamma Mia 2" bez pjevanja i plesanja, čak i više od prethodnog režisera televizijskog pedigrea Michaela Englera, zasigurno i zato što imamo snimanje filma unutar njegova filma.

Kadrovi iz dronova i izlazak u eksterijere, odmah u uvodnim minutama i sceni vjenčanja Toma Bransona i Lucy Smith (Allen Leech, Tuppence Middleton), dođu kao podsjetnik na to da je “Downton Abbey” prilagođen formatu velikog ekrana, ali i sinematična distrakcija iskusnog direktora fotografije Andrewa Dunna ("Charliejev svijet", "Drugo stanje Bridget Jones").

Jer, koliko god da je sinematičniji od serije, “Downton Abbey 2” je još uvijek “Downton Abbey”. Dakle, “Novo doba” se ponajprije temelji na interakcijama glumaca i njihovih likova, a epizodična je u naraciji i sapuničasto-dramskim (pod)zapletima, nanovo iz pera originalnog kreatora Juliana Fellowesa, osvajača Oscara za scenarij "Gosford Parka" i scenarista filmova "Victoria: Život mlade kraljice" i "Turist", kao i friške serije "Pozlaćeno doba"

Ovo je i prije svega film za fanove “Downton Abbeyja”, baš poput prethodnika, koji mogu uživati u društvu dragih likova, s njima se malo nasmijati i zaplakati jer nakon vjenčanja slijedi i jedan sprovod u nastavku emotivnijem od originala. Mogu guštati i u “cozy” atmosferi, kao stvorenoj za jedno subotnje ili nedjeljno popodne u kinu, neovisno o neujednačenostima između dvije glavne pripovjedne linije.

Zaplet počinje nakon što Violet Crawley (divna Maggie Smith; "Harry Potter", "Hotel Marigold", "Hotel Marigold 2") otkrije da je dobila u posjed vilu na jugu Francuske, a kako je vlasnik te vile misteriozni markiz, njezin sin Robert (Hugh Bonneville; "Paddington") i njegova američka supruga Cora (Elizabeth McGovern; "Bilo jednom u Americi", "Prozor spavaće sobe") odlaze na rivijeru izvidjeti situaciju s još par “downtonaca”.

Ondje zatječu markizovu udovicu (Nathalie Baye; "Samo je kraj svijeta", "Visoka moda") i njezina sina (Jonathan Zaccaï). Sve se čini spremno za komično-dramski sudar kultura i smijeh zbog “riba izvan vode” koncepta, no drama je svedena na potencijalnu sapunicu (je li Robert plod ljubavi Violet i markiza?), a komedija na znojenje batlera Carsona u predebelom odijelu i njegovo kupovanje slamnatog šešira kao zamjene za “trade mark” polucilindar. Razočaravajuće.

Znatno je bolja druga priča, koja se nadovezuje na dolazak kralja i kraljice na večeru iz prijašnjeg filma. Na imanje za potrebe snimanja filma stiže ekipa pod redateljskom palicom naočitog Jacka Barbera (Hugh Dancy; "Histerija"), na što Robertova kći, lady Mary (Michelle Dockery; "Gospoda"), pristaje kako bi “novcem uredili kuću” i “ušli u tridesete uzdignute glave”.

Većina ljudi na imanju oduševljena je prospektom upoznavanja ljudi “koje su viđali u kinu”, zvijezda nijemih filmova kao što su šarmantni Guy Dexter (poznati Dominic West) i prezgodna Myrna Dalgleish (Laura Haddock; "Transformers 5"), iako se potonja uživo pokazuje razmažena i “šarmantna poput bubuljice”, kako opaža Violet.

Njezine su opaske britke, tipa "Nisam trkaći auto, nemoj me usmjeravati" i, još više, “Radije bih zarađivala u rudniku” (nego snimala filmove). Nastupni film implicitno se doticao Brexita, a nastavak se dotiče Hollywooda, istovremeno u blago ironične, ali i posvetne svrhe. “A New Era” se može shvatiti kao posveta starom Hollywoodu iz razdoblja kad su filmovi bili nijemi i polako postajali zvučni, što je navijestilo “novu eru” i koštalo karijere lijepe glumice s ružnim glasom (“smrt od mikrofona”).

Rekreacija c/b kinematografije u “Downton Abbeyju 2” prilično je lijepa uživo na imanju ili u kinu, kao i pretvaranje nijemih filmova u zvučne s naknadnim snimanjem zvuka za već snimljene scene. S tranzicijom iz nijemih u zvučne filmove “Novo doba” kao da želi nešto reći o duelu kino-streaming, ali staje na stranu velikog ekrana, iako potječe od malog. “Downton Abbey” je za kino.

Nije isključena i mogućnost snimanja trećeg filma

Redatelj Curtis je u braku s glumicom Elizabeth McGovern, a on i Fellowes ne isključuju i mogućnost snimanja trećeg filma, posebice ako "A New Era" ostvari uspjeh u kinima na tragu prethodnika.

Snimanje filma? U Downtonu? Čuđenje starog batlera Carsona (Jim Carter) u filmu “Downton Abbey: Novo doba” prilično je dvoznačno. Carson se čudi što filmska ekipa dolazi na imanje postaviti set za viktorijansku melodramu “Kockar”.

Istodobno, njegova reakcija kao da oslikava čuđenje nekih pojedinaca što je “Downton Abbey” već drugi put od serije postao film, iako nije prva takva tranzicija u novije vrijeme ("Deadwood", "Breaking Bad", "Svi sveci mafije"), kamoli starije ("Nedodirljivi", "Nemoguća misija", "Bjegunac", "Dosjei X", "Svetac", "Charliejevi anđeli", "Seks i grad", "A-Team", "Pravednik").

Naime, “Downton Abbey: A New Era” nastavak je filma "Downton Abbey" iz 2019. koji je funkcionirao kao filmski produžetak popularne britanske serije. Je li se moglo proći bez filmskog “Downton Abbeyja”? Realno i jest, ali to se može reći i za zadnje dvije ili tri od ukupno šest sezona serije.

A ako je “Downton Abbey” načelno “nepotreban” u širem kinematografskom smislu, pokazalo se da je potreban fanovima, ako ne i slučajnim namjernicima.

Prvi “Downton Abbey” ostvario je iznenađujući uspjeh u godini kad su kinohitovi postali i sve samo ne tipični blockbusteri (“Bilo jednom u... Hollywoodu”, “Izazivač”, “Male žene”, “Parazit”, "Nož u leđa"), odnosno u vrijeme kad su se filmovi, obratnim procesom, sve češće počeli pretvarati u serije ("Hanna", "Četiri vjenčanja i sprovod" i "Dućan snova", "Čuvari", "Mandalorian", "Cobra Kai", "Chucky", "Jack Ryan" i "Treadstone", "Snowpiercer"...).

Gotovo 100 milijuna dolara u američkim kinima i više od 230 milijuna u svjetskima zaradio je “Downton Abbey”, potvrdivši da za likove serije ima mjesta i na velikom ekranu, ne samo malom, u inat “nevjernim Tomama”.

Novi redatelj Simon Curtis, poznat po filmskim ostvarenjima "Moj tjedan s Marilyn", "Zbogom, Christopher Robin" i "Nevjerojatni život psa Enza", ponaša se kao da snima "movie", nekakav "Mamma Mia 2" bez pjevanja i plesanja, čak i više od prethodnog režisera televizijskog pedigrea Michaela Englera, zasigurno i zato što imamo snimanje filma unutar njegova filma.

Kadrovi iz dronova i izlazak u eksterijere, odmah u uvodnim minutama i sceni vjenčanja Toma Bransona i Lucy Smith (Allen Leech, Tuppence Middleton), dođu kao podsjetnik na to da je “Downton Abbey” prilagođen formatu velikog ekrana, ali i sinematična distrakcija iskusnog direktora fotografije Andrewa Dunna ("Charliejev svijet", "Drugo stanje Bridget Jones").

Jer, koliko god da je sinematičniji od serije, “Downton Abbey 2” je još uvijek “Downton Abbey”. Dakle, “Novo doba” se ponajprije temelji na interakcijama glumaca i njihovih likova, a epizodična je u naraciji i sapuničasto-dramskim (pod)zapletima, nanovo iz pera originalnog kreatora Juliana Fellowesa, osvajača Oscara za scenarij "Gosford Parka" i scenarista filmova "Victoria: Život mlade kraljice" i "Turist", kao i friške serije "Pozlaćeno doba"

Ovo je i prije svega film za fanove “Downton Abbeyja”, baš poput prethodnika, koji mogu uživati u društvu dragih likova, s njima se malo nasmijati i zaplakati jer nakon vjenčanja slijedi i jedan sprovod u nastavku emotivnijem od originala. Mogu guštati i u “cozy” atmosferi, kao stvorenoj za jedno subotnje ili nedjeljno popodne u kinu, neovisno o neujednačenostima između dvije glavne pripovjedne linije.

Zaplet počinje nakon što Violet Crawley (divna Maggie Smith; "Harry Potter", "Hotel Marigold", "Hotel Marigold 2") otkrije da je dobila u posjed vilu na jugu Francuske, a kako je vlasnik te vile misteriozni markiz, njezin sin Robert (Hugh Bonneville; "Paddington") i njegova američka supruga Cora (Elizabeth McGovern; "Bilo jednom u Americi", "Prozor spavaće sobe") odlaze na rivijeru izvidjeti situaciju s još par “downtonaca”.

Ondje zatječu markizovu udovicu (Nathalie Baye; "Samo je kraj svijeta", "Visoka moda") i njezina sina (Jonathan Zaccaï). Sve se čini spremno za komično-dramski sudar kultura i smijeh zbog “riba izvan vode” koncepta, no drama je svedena na potencijalnu sapunicu (je li Robert plod ljubavi Violet i markiza?), a komedija na znojenje batlera Carsona u predebelom odijelu i njegovo kupovanje slamnatog šešira kao zamjene za “trade mark” polucilindar. Razočaravajuće.

Znatno je bolja druga priča, koja se nadovezuje na dolazak kralja i kraljice na večeru iz prijašnjeg filma. Na imanje za potrebe snimanja filma stiže ekipa pod redateljskom palicom naočitog Jacka Barbera (Hugh Dancy; "Histerija"), na što Robertova kći, lady Mary (Michelle Dockery; "Gospoda"), pristaje kako bi “novcem uredili kuću” i “ušli u tridesete uzdignute glave”.

Većina ljudi na imanju oduševljena je prospektom upoznavanja ljudi “koje su viđali u kinu”, zvijezda nijemih filmova kao što su šarmantni Guy Dexter (poznati Dominic West) i prezgodna Myrna Dalgleish (Laura Haddock; "Transformers 5"), iako se potonja uživo pokazuje razmažena i “šarmantna poput bubuljice”, kako opaža Violet.

Njezine su opaske britke, tipa "Nisam trkaći auto, nemoj me usmjeravati" i, još više, “Radije bih zarađivala u rudniku” (nego snimala filmove). Nastupni film implicitno se doticao Brexita, a nastavak se dotiče Hollywooda, istovremeno u blago ironične, ali i posvetne svrhe. “A New Era” se može shvatiti kao posveta starom Hollywoodu iz razdoblja kad su filmovi bili nijemi i polako postajali zvučni, što je navijestilo “novu eru” i koštalo karijere lijepe glumice s ružnim glasom (“smrt od mikrofona”).

Rekreacija c/b kinematografije u “Downton Abbeyju 2” prilično je lijepa uživo na imanju ili u kinu, kao i pretvaranje nijemih filmova u zvučne s naknadnim snimanjem zvuka za već snimljene scene. S tranzicijom iz nijemih u zvučne filmove “Novo doba” kao da želi nešto reći o duelu kino-streaming, ali staje na stranu velikog ekrana, iako potječe od malog. “Downton Abbey” je za kino.

Nije isključena i mogućnost snimanja trećeg filma

Redatelj Curtis je u braku s glumicom Elizabeth McGovern, a on i Fellowes ne isključuju i mogućnost snimanja trećeg filma, posebice ako "A New Era" ostvari uspjeh u kinima na tragu prethodnika.

Snimanje filma? U Downtonu? Čuđenje starog batlera Carsona (Jim Carter) u filmu “Downton Abbey: Novo doba” prilično je dvoznačno. Carson se čudi što filmska ekipa dolazi na imanje postaviti set za viktorijansku melodramu “Kockar”.

Istodobno, njegova reakcija kao da oslikava čuđenje nekih pojedinaca što je “Downton Abbey” već drugi put od serije postao film, iako nije prva takva tranzicija u novije vrijeme ("Deadwood", "Breaking Bad", "Svi sveci mafije"), kamoli starije ("Nedodirljivi", "Nemoguća misija", "Bjegunac", "Dosjei X", "Svetac", "Charliejevi anđeli", "Seks i grad", "A-Team", "Pravednik").
