Primanje canneske Cinefondation nagrade 2014. za kratki film "Skunk" otvorilo je vrata programa Un Certain Regard američkoj nezavisnoj filmašici Annie Silverstein kad je snimila dugometražni debi "Bull". Dogodilo se to na prošlom Cannesu, odakle je Silversteiničin "Bik" bio pušten u međunarodni filmsko-festivalski svijet od Amerike do Slovenije (LIFFe), ne i Hrvatske.
Za američku i svjetsku kinodistribuciju "Bull" je bio tempiran baš za proljeće ove godine, ali je zbog poznatih pandemijskih okolnosti na koncu plasiran na "online" platforme i videoteke, uključujući i ("A1") hrvatske, gdje je osvanuo kao trenutno najprivlačnija premijera u niši festivalske art/indie kinematografije.
"Bik" nastavlja slijediti put neovesternskih festivalskih drama poput "Jahača" i "Mustanga", pričajući priču o odrastanju i starenju na modernom američkom Divljem zapadu, negdje na vanjskom rubu Houstona u Teksasu. Odrastanje i starenje prelama se preko fino karakteriziranih glavnih likova filma s rasnim podtekstom, uz pridodani klasni, da redateljica zaokruži portret suvremene Amerike.
Likovi su 14-godišnja teksaška djevojka Kris (vrlo dobra debitantica Amber Havard) i sredovječni Abe (upečatljivi Rob Morgan), bivši prvak u jahanju bikova. Kris teško pada život s bolesnom bakom-dijabetičarkom (Keeli Wheeler) i mlađom sestrom (Keira Bennett), bez majke (Sara Albright) koja se nalazi u zatvoru i o kojoj sluša lokalne priče da je izvodila svakojake ludosti.
Bijeg od tog života, u kojem ona takoreći odgaja mlađu sestru i samu sebe, Kris pronalazi u buntovništvu i druženju s vršnjačkim delikventima. Kako bi se nametnula u ekipi, Kris jedne večeri provali u kuću susjeda Abea za inat što ju je ukorio kad je njezin pas napao njegove kokoši, a sve s ciljem da organizira tulum. Zabava se, dakako, otima kontroli i strada pokućstvo.
Međutim, umjesto da prepusti Kris policiji, Abe popušta bakinim nagovaranjima da mu se djevojka oduži radom, od sređivanja izneređene kuće nadalje. Uz njega Kris otkriva profesionalni svijet jahanja bikova. Redateljica snima rodeo svijet s okom za poetičnost prizora i slojevitost karaktera koji više kažu šutnjom i govorom tijela.
U tom "samo jaši" svijetu kauboja i jahača, u kojem se trijumf mjeri u osam sekundi provedenih na leđima bika (i mustanga), Abe je legenda kao Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) u hrvačkom u "Wrestleru". Lik kao iz neke Springsteenove balade, poput "Western Stars" i "Drive Fast/The Stuntman", idealne zvučne kulise ovog filma.
Nakon niza ozbiljnih ozljeda, još uvijek ublažavanih alkoholom i lijekovima, nekadašnji šampion sada radi kao "bull fighter" i privlači pažnju bikova sa zbačenih jahača kako bi spriječio da ih probodu, riskirajući pritom da usput njega samoga zakvače rogovima.
Taj svijet bi mogao biti prilika za Kris da izađe iz začaranog kruga lošeg društva i neimaštine prije nego potencijalno krene majčinim koracima do zatvora. "Želim jahati bikove", usklikne Kris nakon što se okuša na "mechanic bull" bačvi za vježbanje i poželi ući u mačo svijet.
No, "Bull" se ne pretvara u klasičnu sportsku dramu, premda zadržava tu "klasičnost" u iskupničkom odnosu protagonistice i mentora/očinske figure, karakterno promjenjivim za dvoje ljudi u netolerantnom svijetu koji bi mogli spasiti sebe i jedno drugo neočekivanim prijateljstvom a la "Zelena knjiga".
Jahanje bikova prisutnije je simbolično, nego doslovno u filmu, s rodeom kao metaforom za neukrotivi, nepredvidivi život koji se ne da se tako lako stegnuti lasom i ima običaj zbaciti čovjeka kad ga zajaši. "Digni se brzo kad padneš", Abe savjetuje Kris i u prenesenu značenju, da ustane nakon što je bik/život obori.
Simbolika je znatna u "Biku", ali suptilna. Divlje životinje koje se pokušavaju ukrotiti i primiriti. Boks s rešetkama nalik zatvoru iz kojeg bik izlijeće u arenu. Bik se vrti ukrug pokušavajući se otarasiti jahača. Nevidljivi laso oko vrata likova pritisnutih egzistencijalnim problemima. Silverstein se ne povinjuje komercijalnim nametima, ali ostavlja barem mogućnost nekakve nade za Kris i Abea, ako ne i nadu, šutke ih bodreći da nastave jahati i izdrže onih osam sekundi. Samo jaši.

Primanje canneske Cinefondation nagrade 2014. za kratki film "Skunk" otvorilo je vrata programa Un Certain Regard američkoj nezavisnoj filmašici Annie Silverstein kad je snimila dugometražni debi "Bull". Dogodilo se to na prošlom Cannesu, odakle je Silversteiničin "Bik" bio pušten u međunarodni filmsko-festivalski svijet od Amerike do Slovenije (LIFFe), ne i Hrvatske.
Za američku i svjetsku kinodistribuciju "Bull" je bio tempiran baš za proljeće ove godine, ali je zbog poznatih pandemijskih okolnosti na koncu plasiran na "online" platforme i videoteke, uključujući i ("A1") hrvatske, gdje je osvanuo kao trenutno najprivlačnija premijera u niši festivalske art/indie kinematografije.
"Bik" nastavlja slijediti put neovesternskih festivalskih drama poput "Jahača" i "Mustanga", pričajući priču o odrastanju i starenju na modernom američkom Divljem zapadu, negdje na vanjskom rubu Houstona u Teksasu. Odrastanje i starenje prelama se preko fino karakteriziranih glavnih likova filma s rasnim podtekstom, uz pridodani klasni, da redateljica zaokruži portret suvremene Amerike.
Likovi su 14-godišnja teksaška djevojka Kris (vrlo dobra debitantica Amber Havard) i sredovječni Abe (upečatljivi Rob Morgan), bivši prvak u jahanju bikova. Kris teško pada život s bolesnom bakom-dijabetičarkom (Keeli Wheeler) i mlađom sestrom (Keira Bennett), bez majke (Sara Albright) koja se nalazi u zatvoru i o kojoj sluša lokalne priče da je izvodila svakojake ludosti.
Bijeg od tog života, u kojem ona takoreći odgaja mlađu sestru i samu sebe, Kris pronalazi u buntovništvu i druženju s vršnjačkim delikventima. Kako bi se nametnula u ekipi, Kris jedne večeri provali u kuću susjeda Abea za inat što ju je ukorio kad je njezin pas napao njegove kokoši, a sve s ciljem da organizira tulum. Zabava se, dakako, otima kontroli i strada pokućstvo.
Međutim, umjesto da prepusti Kris policiji, Abe popušta bakinim nagovaranjima da mu se djevojka oduži radom, od sređivanja izneređene kuće nadalje. Uz njega Kris otkriva profesionalni svijet jahanja bikova. Redateljica snima rodeo svijet s okom za poetičnost prizora i slojevitost karaktera koji više kažu šutnjom i govorom tijela.
U tom "samo jaši" svijetu kauboja i jahača, u kojem se trijumf mjeri u osam sekundi provedenih na leđima bika (i mustanga), Abe je legenda kao Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) u hrvačkom u "Wrestleru". Lik kao iz neke Springsteenove balade, poput "Western Stars" i "Drive Fast/The Stuntman", idealne zvučne kulise ovog filma.
Nakon niza ozbiljnih ozljeda, još uvijek ublažavanih alkoholom i lijekovima, nekadašnji šampion sada radi kao "bull fighter" i privlači pažnju bikova sa zbačenih jahača kako bi spriječio da ih probodu, riskirajući pritom da usput njega samoga zakvače rogovima.
Taj svijet bi mogao biti prilika za Kris da izađe iz začaranog kruga lošeg društva i neimaštine prije nego potencijalno krene majčinim koracima do zatvora. "Želim jahati bikove", usklikne Kris nakon što se okuša na "mechanic bull" bačvi za vježbanje i poželi ući u mačo svijet.
No, "Bull" se ne pretvara u klasičnu sportsku dramu, premda zadržava tu "klasičnost" u iskupničkom odnosu protagonistice i mentora/očinske figure, karakterno promjenjivim za dvoje ljudi u netolerantnom svijetu koji bi mogli spasiti sebe i jedno drugo neočekivanim prijateljstvom a la "Zelena knjiga".
Jahanje bikova prisutnije je simbolično, nego doslovno u filmu, s rodeom kao metaforom za neukrotivi, nepredvidivi život koji se ne da se tako lako stegnuti lasom i ima običaj zbaciti čovjeka kad ga zajaši. "Digni se brzo kad padneš", Abe savjetuje Kris i u prenesenu značenju, da ustane nakon što je bik/život obori.
Simbolika je znatna u "Biku", ali suptilna. Divlje životinje koje se pokušavaju ukrotiti i primiriti. Boks s rešetkama nalik zatvoru iz kojeg bik izlijeće u arenu. Bik se vrti ukrug pokušavajući se otarasiti jahača. Nevidljivi laso oko vrata likova pritisnutih egzistencijalnim problemima. Silverstein se ne povinjuje komercijalnim nametima, ali ostavlja barem mogućnost nekakve nade za Kris i Abea, ako ne i nadu, šutke ih bodreći da nastave jahati i izdrže onih osam sekundi. Samo jaši.
