Braća Coen združena su s filmskim bratom Quentinom Tarantinom u "Arkansasu", novitetu u "online" videoteci. Utjecaje njihovih crnohumornih krimića devedesetih "Arkansas" ne pokušava sakriti. Film igra otvorenih karata na "Fargo", "Pakleni šund", "Jackie Brown"... Svaki od tih filmova otisnut je u "Arkansasu". I to je u redu.
Redatelj "Arkansasa", komičar Clark Duke znan po sporednim ulogama u "Kick-Assu" i "Jacuzzi Expressu", rođen je 1985., dakle njegove formativne filmofilske godine bile su upravo devedesete. Duke je fan spomenutih filmova, gledao ih je unedogled i odlučio debitirati kao redatelj svojim prilogom "coenovštini"/"tarantinovštini" i nametnuti se kao nekakav mlađi bratić Coen, mali od Tarantinove kužine.

U "Arkansasu" imamo nelinearnu narativnu strukturu i živopisno naslovljena poglavlja, tipa "Dokolica je dobra". Pričom prevladavaju krupni i sitni kriminalci/dileri droge sa ili bez "filozofije života", u poslu koji će prije ili kasnije poći po zlu, nerijetko i probisvijeti, niškoristi ljudi uvjereni da su pametniji od drugih, iako (nužno) nisu.
Likovi filma bave se poslom "na crno" i spremni su usositi druge u "zajebi-ili-budi-zajeban" svijetu koji "moralno propada". Posao na crno slaže se s crnim humorom kakav se u ovakvim ostvarenjima poslovično rimuje s crvenim nasiljem. Lako gledljivi, ali nepamtljivi "Arkansas", nažalost, rijetko pogađa tu rimu i još rjeđe uspijeva pronaći vlastiti ritam, a kad ga pronađe brzo ga izgubi u višku podzapleta s manjkom istinskih uzbuđenja.
"Arkansas" prečesto podsjeća na dobre filmove umjesto da sam bude takav i djeluje kao "fan-made" uradak s odličnim profesionalnim glumcima poput Johna Malkovicha i Vincea Vaughna. Scena koja ilustrira Dukeova dobronamjerna, ali ne pretjerano uspjela crno-crvena nastojanja po uzoru na Coene i Tarantina dolazi u trenutku kad neka protuha počne mučiti Malkovicheva rendžera i dilera Brighta s vješalicom (!) ne bi li doznao gdje je vreća s lovom.
"Nikad me dosad nisu mučili", cijuče Bright koji voli sanjati o "sisama na izvol'te". Trenutak kasnije, njih dvojica se hrvaju oko pištolja dok na soundtracku svira nevina pjesmica. Nije "Stuck In The Middle With You" ("Psi iz rezervoara"), no kužite na što se cilja.
Sve je to štosno u zamišljaju, ali nedovoljno vjerodostojno u konačnom izričaju, možda i zbog osrednje redateljske egzekucije s tek povremenim trenucima inspiracije i osobnosti te iskrama (potencijalnog/budućeg) talenta koji bi jednog dana mogao subvertirati žanr.
Mladi filmaš voli i naizust poznaje referentne filmove, nema što, međutim stječe se dojam da treba još izvježbati kako teoriju prenijeti u praksu, odnosno kako senzibilizirati filmofilske utjecaje i od njih napraviti cjelovitije/autentičnije djelo. Njegova ljubav prema krimićima objavljena je u uvodnom citatu iz Morriseyjeve pjesme "Sister, I'm a Poet": "Volim romantiku kriminala i pitam se osjeća li se još netko kao ja? I je li zlo nešto što jednostavno jesi ili što jednostavno radiš?".
Ta ljubav se znade osjetiti u filmu kojemu je stalo do arkansaških likova koliko god se činio ciničnim, zajedljivim i po njih fatalističkim (Duke je rođen u Arkansasu) ili je svakako glasnija od potihog "između-redaka" propitivanja koncepta kriminala/zla, tj. začaranog kruga nasilja.
Najbolje u tome prolazi Vaughnov lik, diler Frog za kojeg rade Kyle (Liam Hemswoth, mlađi brat popularnijeg Chrisa) i Swin (glumi ga sam Duke). Frog dobiva najveće poglavlje "Arkansasa", naslovljeno po njemu, kad se priča vraća u 1985. godinu i kronicira kako je pokrenuo posao "na crno".
Filmofilske/popkulturne referencije tad uključuju film "Toxic Avenger" koji Frog gleda na VHS-u kod dilera nakon uspješnog sklapanja posla. Bilo bi metafilmski smionije i štosnije, unutaržanrovski subverzivnije, da se flešbek odvija sredinom devedesetih i da likovi gledaju Coene i Tarantina na VHS-u.
No, Duke je, ambiciozno, htio radnju vratiti što ranije kako bi Frog dovoljno ostario da može, pod stare dane, biti "poput mafijaških šefova u filmovima". Pred kraj, najviše zahvaljujući Vaughnu, "Arkansas" na trenutak ili dva postaje ruralni "The Irishman".

Braća Coen združena su s filmskim bratom Quentinom Tarantinom u "Arkansasu", novitetu u "online" videoteci. Utjecaje njihovih crnohumornih krimića devedesetih "Arkansas" ne pokušava sakriti. Film igra otvorenih karata na "Fargo", "Pakleni šund", "Jackie Brown"... Svaki od tih filmova otisnut je u "Arkansasu". I to je u redu.
Redatelj "Arkansasa", komičar Clark Duke znan po sporednim ulogama u "Kick-Assu" i "Jacuzzi Expressu", rođen je 1985., dakle njegove formativne filmofilske godine bile su upravo devedesete. Duke je fan spomenutih filmova, gledao ih je unedogled i odlučio debitirati kao redatelj svojim prilogom "coenovštini"/"tarantinovštini" i nametnuti se kao nekakav mlađi bratić Coen, mali od Tarantinove kužine.

U "Arkansasu" imamo nelinearnu narativnu strukturu i živopisno naslovljena poglavlja, tipa "Dokolica je dobra". Pričom prevladavaju krupni i sitni kriminalci/dileri droge sa ili bez "filozofije života", u poslu koji će prije ili kasnije poći po zlu, nerijetko i probisvijeti, niškoristi ljudi uvjereni da su pametniji od drugih, iako (nužno) nisu.
Likovi filma bave se poslom "na crno" i spremni su usositi druge u "zajebi-ili-budi-zajeban" svijetu koji "moralno propada". Posao na crno slaže se s crnim humorom kakav se u ovakvim ostvarenjima poslovično rimuje s crvenim nasiljem. Lako gledljivi, ali nepamtljivi "Arkansas", nažalost, rijetko pogađa tu rimu i još rjeđe uspijeva pronaći vlastiti ritam, a kad ga pronađe brzo ga izgubi u višku podzapleta s manjkom istinskih uzbuđenja.
"Arkansas" prečesto podsjeća na dobre filmove umjesto da sam bude takav i djeluje kao "fan-made" uradak s odličnim profesionalnim glumcima poput Johna Malkovicha i Vincea Vaughna. Scena koja ilustrira Dukeova dobronamjerna, ali ne pretjerano uspjela crno-crvena nastojanja po uzoru na Coene i Tarantina dolazi u trenutku kad neka protuha počne mučiti Malkovicheva rendžera i dilera Brighta s vješalicom (!) ne bi li doznao gdje je vreća s lovom.
"Nikad me dosad nisu mučili", cijuče Bright koji voli sanjati o "sisama na izvol'te". Trenutak kasnije, njih dvojica se hrvaju oko pištolja dok na soundtracku svira nevina pjesmica. Nije "Stuck In The Middle With You" ("Psi iz rezervoara"), no kužite na što se cilja.
Sve je to štosno u zamišljaju, ali nedovoljno vjerodostojno u konačnom izričaju, možda i zbog osrednje redateljske egzekucije s tek povremenim trenucima inspiracije i osobnosti te iskrama (potencijalnog/budućeg) talenta koji bi jednog dana mogao subvertirati žanr.
Mladi filmaš voli i naizust poznaje referentne filmove, nema što, međutim stječe se dojam da treba još izvježbati kako teoriju prenijeti u praksu, odnosno kako senzibilizirati filmofilske utjecaje i od njih napraviti cjelovitije/autentičnije djelo. Njegova ljubav prema krimićima objavljena je u uvodnom citatu iz Morriseyjeve pjesme "Sister, I'm a Poet": "Volim romantiku kriminala i pitam se osjeća li se još netko kao ja? I je li zlo nešto što jednostavno jesi ili što jednostavno radiš?".
Ta ljubav se znade osjetiti u filmu kojemu je stalo do arkansaških likova koliko god se činio ciničnim, zajedljivim i po njih fatalističkim (Duke je rođen u Arkansasu) ili je svakako glasnija od potihog "između-redaka" propitivanja koncepta kriminala/zla, tj. začaranog kruga nasilja.
Najbolje u tome prolazi Vaughnov lik, diler Frog za kojeg rade Kyle (Liam Hemswoth, mlađi brat popularnijeg Chrisa) i Swin (glumi ga sam Duke). Frog dobiva najveće poglavlje "Arkansasa", naslovljeno po njemu, kad se priča vraća u 1985. godinu i kronicira kako je pokrenuo posao "na crno".
Filmofilske/popkulturne referencije tad uključuju film "Toxic Avenger" koji Frog gleda na VHS-u kod dilera nakon uspješnog sklapanja posla. Bilo bi metafilmski smionije i štosnije, unutaržanrovski subverzivnije, da se flešbek odvija sredinom devedesetih i da likovi gledaju Coene i Tarantina na VHS-u.
No, Duke je, ambiciozno, htio radnju vratiti što ranije kako bi Frog dovoljno ostario da može, pod stare dane, biti "poput mafijaških šefova u filmovima". Pred kraj, najviše zahvaljujući Vaughnu, "Arkansas" na trenutak ili dva postaje ruralni "The Irishman".
