Poznata je činjenica da dno oceana našeg planeta ne poznajemo baš previše. Zbog toga je i moguće da znanstvenici još uvijek otkrivaju nove stvari u mračnim dubinama - stvari koje su posve neočekivane, vrlo zbunjujuće i kao da nisu s našeg planeta. U dubinama vladaju drugačiji uvjeti - manjak svjetlosti (ili je uopće nema, ovisi o dubini) i pritisak stvorili su, razumljivo, posve drugačiji život. O njemu tek sada saznajemo i to malo po malo.

Tako su tek nedavno otkrili, kako sami kažu, posve novi svijet, za kojeg ni oni (a ni svjetska javnost) nisu ni znali da postoji.

Znanstvenici s broda Schmidt Ocean Institutea upotrijebili su podvodnog robota za prevrtanje ploča vulkanske kore u dubokom, tamnom Pacifiku. Ispod morskog dna ovog inače dobro proučenog mjesta, međunarodni tim istraživača pronašao nešto neočekivano.

- Na kopnu već dugo znamo za životinje koje žive u šupljinama pod zemljom i za životinje u oceanu koje žive u pijesku i mulju, ali po prvi put znanstvenici su tražili životinje ispod hidrotermalnih otvora. Ovo doista izvanredno otkriće novog ekosustava, skrivenog ispod drugog ekosustava, pruža nove dokaze da život postoji na nevjerojatnim mjestima - kaže izvršna direktorica instituta, Jyotika Virmani, piše Scence Alert.

Znanstvenici su tek 1970-ih otkrili hidrotermalne otvore koji izbacuju vruće tekućine bogate mineralima u duboki ocean. Unatoč tami ovih dubina, život je vrvio oko ovih zadimljenih otvora nalik na dimnjak. U proteklih 46 godina istraživanja, međutim, nitko nikada nije pomislio zaviriti ispod oceanskih toplih izvora.

Skidanje naslaga s morskog dna otkrilo je šareni ekosustav crva, puževa i kemosintetskih bakterija, koje se za energiju ne oslanjaju na sunčevu svjetlost, već na minerale.

- Naše razumijevanje životinjskog svijeta u hidrotermalnim izvorima dubokog mora zaista se proširilo ovim otkrićem - kaže ekologinja Monika Bright sa Sveučilišta u Beču.

Znanstvenici su crve cjevaše (Riftia pachyptila) smatrali posebno fascinantnim. Čini se da ova dubokomorska stvorenja putuju ispod morskog dna kroz vulkanske tekućine kako bi kolonizirali nova staništa. To bi moglo objasniti zašto se tako malo njihovih mladunaca ikada vidi kako se okupljaju oko dubokih vulkanskih pukotina. Većina možda sazrijeva ispod površine.

Kako bi testirali ovu hipotezu, istraživači su upotrijebili vozilo na daljinsko upravljanje, nazvano SuBastian, kako bi očistili kvadrat oceanskog dna na istočnom pacifičkom uzvišenju kod Srednje Amerike. Radi se o dnu koje je oko 2500 metara udaljeno od površine. Tim je zatim zalijepio mrežastu kutiju na vrh tog naoko beživotnog mjesta.

Kad su nekoliko dana kasnije uklonili kutiju, istraživači su otkrili da područje više nije pusto, jer su ga naselile nove životinje. Zaključili su kako su stvorenja do tog mjesta stigla putujući ispod morskog dna.

Rezultati ovih otkrića bit će objavljeni u nadolazećim mjesecima, ali ako je ono što istraživači kažu istina, onda bi buduća iskopavanja dubokog mora mogla duboko poremetiti ovaj novopronađeni ekosustav.

- Ovo otkriće nam jasno daje do znanja da moramo hitno posve istražiti dubine oceana na našem planetu, da bismo znali što sve postoji u dubokom moru. Otkriće novih stvorenja, krajolika, a sada i potpuno novog ekosustava, naglašava koliko toga tek trebamo otkriti o našem oceanu – i koliko je važno zaštititi ono što još ne znamo ili ne razumijemo - kaže Wendy Schmidt, predsjednica i suosnivačica Schmidt Ocean Institutea, prenosi VauMijau.

Poznata je činjenica da dno oceana našeg planeta ne poznajemo baš previše. Zbog toga je i moguće da znanstvenici još uvijek otkrivaju nove stvari u mračnim dubinama - stvari koje su posve neočekivane, vrlo zbunjujuće i kao da nisu s našeg planeta. U dubinama vladaju drugačiji uvjeti - manjak svjetlosti (ili je uopće nema, ovisi o dubini) i pritisak stvorili su, razumljivo, posve drugačiji život. O njemu tek sada saznajemo i to malo po malo.

Tako su tek nedavno otkrili, kako sami kažu, posve novi svijet, za kojeg ni oni (a ni svjetska javnost) nisu ni znali da postoji.

Znanstvenici s broda Schmidt Ocean Institutea upotrijebili su podvodnog robota za prevrtanje ploča vulkanske kore u dubokom, tamnom Pacifiku. Ispod morskog dna ovog inače dobro proučenog mjesta, međunarodni tim istraživača pronašao nešto neočekivano.

- Na kopnu već dugo znamo za životinje koje žive u šupljinama pod zemljom i za životinje u oceanu koje žive u pijesku i mulju, ali po prvi put znanstvenici su tražili životinje ispod hidrotermalnih otvora. Ovo doista izvanredno otkriće novog ekosustava, skrivenog ispod drugog ekosustava, pruža nove dokaze da život postoji na nevjerojatnim mjestima - kaže izvršna direktorica instituta, Jyotika Virmani, piše Scence Alert.

Znanstvenici su tek 1970-ih otkrili hidrotermalne otvore koji izbacuju vruće tekućine bogate mineralima u duboki ocean. Unatoč tami ovih dubina, život je vrvio oko ovih zadimljenih otvora nalik na dimnjak. U proteklih 46 godina istraživanja, međutim, nitko nikada nije pomislio zaviriti ispod oceanskih toplih izvora.

Skidanje naslaga s morskog dna otkrilo je šareni ekosustav crva, puževa i kemosintetskih bakterija, koje se za energiju ne oslanjaju na sunčevu svjetlost, već na minerale.

- Naše razumijevanje životinjskog svijeta u hidrotermalnim izvorima dubokog mora zaista se proširilo ovim otkrićem - kaže ekologinja Monika Bright sa Sveučilišta u Beču.

Znanstvenici su crve cjevaše (Riftia pachyptila) smatrali posebno fascinantnim. Čini se da ova dubokomorska stvorenja putuju ispod morskog dna kroz vulkanske tekućine kako bi kolonizirali nova staništa. To bi moglo objasniti zašto se tako malo njihovih mladunaca ikada vidi kako se okupljaju oko dubokih vulkanskih pukotina. Većina možda sazrijeva ispod površine.

Kako bi testirali ovu hipotezu, istraživači su upotrijebili vozilo na daljinsko upravljanje, nazvano SuBastian, kako bi očistili kvadrat oceanskog dna na istočnom pacifičkom uzvišenju kod Srednje Amerike. Radi se o dnu koje je oko 2500 metara udaljeno od površine. Tim je zatim zalijepio mrežastu kutiju na vrh tog naoko beživotnog mjesta.

Kad su nekoliko dana kasnije uklonili kutiju, istraživači su otkrili da područje više nije pusto, jer su ga naselile nove životinje. Zaključili su kako su stvorenja do tog mjesta stigla putujući ispod morskog dna.

Rezultati ovih otkrića bit će objavljeni u nadolazećim mjesecima, ali ako je ono što istraživači kažu istina, onda bi buduća iskopavanja dubokog mora mogla duboko poremetiti ovaj novopronađeni ekosustav.

- Ovo otkriće nam jasno daje do znanja da moramo hitno posve istražiti dubine oceana na našem planetu, da bismo znali što sve postoji u dubokom moru. Poznata je činjenica da dno oceana našeg planeta ne poznajemo baš previše. Zbog toga je i moguće da znanstvenici još uvijek otkrivaju nove stvari u mračnim dubinama - stvari koje su posve neočekivane, vrlo zbunjujuće i kao da nisu s našeg planeta. U dubinama vladaju drugačiji uvjeti - manjak svjetlosti (ili je uopće nema, ovisi o dubini) i pritisak stvorili su, razumljivo, posve drugačiji život. O njemu tek sada saznajemo i to malo po malo.
