Talijanski ledolomac Laura Bassi, u vlasništvu Nacionalnog instituta za oceanografiju i eksperimentalnu geofiziku, oborio je svjetski rekord dosegnuvši najjužniju točku do koje je ikada doplovio neki brod, prenosi Pomorac.hr.

Istraživači su, naime, tijekom ekspedicije Nacionalnog programa istraživanja Antarktike stigli do točke 78° 44,280′ S, u zaljevu Bay of Whales, koji je dio Rossovog mora.

Putovanje ledolomca započelo je 17. studenog, kada je isplovio iz Trsta prema Ravenni, gdje su ukrcani znanstvenici i materijali, te krenuo prema Novom Zelandu. Laura Bassi je 5. siječnja isplovio iz luke Lyttelton i krenula prema Rossovom moru, a 4. veljače brod će se zaustaviti na stanici Mario Zucchelli na Antarktici, gdje će se obaviti smjena istraživača, a istraživanje Antarktike nastavlja se 7. veljače, prenosi Primorski.eu.

“Sretan sam zbog rekorda, ali u isto vrijeme sam tužan jer se situacija na Antarktici tako brzo mijenja”, rekao je kapetan broda Franko Sedmak. Kapetan je 2017. brodom Explora doplovio do istog područja, no tada je ovdje bilo toliko leda da nisu mogli proći dalje.

“Nikada nisam mislio da ću nakon nekoliko godina doživjeti da se led toliko otopio da možemo doseći toliko južnu točku”, kazao je kapetan Sedmak, prenosi Reuters.

Istraživači s ledolomca Laura Bassi istraživali su dubine od 216 metara kako bi bolje razumjeli morske struje te uzeli uzorke kako bi proučavali životinjske vrste.

Putovanje ledolomca započelo je 17. studenog, kada je isplovio iz Trsta prema Ravenni, gdje su ukrcani znanstvenici i materijali, te krenuo prema Novom Zelandu. Laura Bassi je 5. siječnja isplovio iz luke Lyttelton i krenula prema Rossovom moru, a 4. veljače brod će se zaustaviti na stanici Mario Zucchelli na Antarktici, gdje će se obaviti smjena istraživača, a istraživanje Antarktike nastavlja se 7. veljače, prenosi Primorski.eu.

“Sretan sam zbog rekorda, ali u isto vrijeme sam tužan jer se situacija na Antarktici tako brzo mijenja”, rekao je kapetan broda Franko Sedmak. Kapetan je 2017. brodom Explora doplovio do istog područja, no tada je ovdje bilo toliko leda da nisu mogli proći dalje.

“Nikada nisam mislio da ću nakon nekoliko godina doživjeti da se led toliko otopio da možemo doseći toliko južnu točku”, kazao je kapetan Sedmak, prenosi Reuters.

Istraživači s ledolomca Laura Bassi istraživali su dubine od 216 metara kako bi bolje razumjeli morske struje te uzeli uzorke kako bi proučavali životinjske vrste.
