Prije 35 godina dogodila se najveća nesreća u povijesti offshore industrije, koja je svijetu otvorila oči po pitanju opasnosti rada u ovoj industriji. Bila je to nesreća na naftnoj platformi Piper Alpha, koja je 6. srpnja 1988. godine u smrt odnijela 167 ljudi.

Bio je to tek jedan običan radni dan za 226 radnika i članova posade Piper Alpha, naftne platforme koja se nalazila u Sjevernom moru, oko 120 milja sjeveroistočno od Aberdeena u Škotskoj, piše Pomorac.hr.

Platforma, kojom je upravljao Occidental Petroleum, nalazila se na naftnom polju Piper Alpha, otkrivenom u siječnju 1973. godine. Bilo je to jedno od prvih nalazišta ugljikovodika iskorištenih na Sjevernom moru, a proizvodnja nafte započela je u rekordnom roku, već u prosincu 1976. godine, manje od četiri godine nakon otkrića. Nafta se izvozila podmorskom cjevovodima u rafineriju na otoku Flotta.

Kasno navečer 6. srpnja 1988. godine, platformom Piper Alpha se prolomio niz eksplozija. Prva eksplozija dogodila se oko 22 sata, a svjedoci su začuli jaku buku nakon koje je uslijedila eksplozija. Gusti crni dim obavio je platformu, a nakon prve uslijedio je niz manjih eksplozija.

Dvadeset minuta kasnije, oko 22:20, došlo je do još jedne velike eksplozije na visokotlačnom plinovodu koji je bio povezan s Texacovom platformom Tartan. Zapaljeni plin sukljao je iz plinovoda, pri čemu se oslobodila golema količina toplinske energije.

Nešto prije 23 sata, još jedna velika eksplozija dogodila se na Totalovom plinovodu, pri čemu je uništeno brzo spasilačko plovilo lansirano sa standby broda Sandhaven. Poginula su dva od ukupno tri člana posade te šest ljudi koji su upravo bili spašeni iz mora.

Intenzivni požari i eksplozije toliko su oslabili strukturu Piper Alphe da su se gornji dijelovi platforme počeli urušavati oko 23:20 sati, zbog čega su brojni članovi posade u panici počeli skakati u more. Glavni smještajni modul na četiri kata, u kojoj se sklonila najmanje 81 osoba, skliznuo je u more. Svi koji su bili unutra su poginuli.

Do ranog jutra idućeg dana, 7. srpnja 1988. godine, tri četvrtine gornje strukture platforme i značajan dio konstrukcije uništen je i potonuo na morskom dno, 140 metara ispod površine mora.

Gašenje požara trajalo je više od tri tjedna. Ostaci Piper Alphe koji su ostali stajati iznad površine srušeni su u more 28. ožujka 1989. godine.

Od 226 osoba koje su se te noći nalazile na brodu, samo je 61 preživjela. Ukupno je poginulo 167 osoba, od čega je 109 umrlo zbog udisanja dima, 13 se utopilo, a 11 je poginulo od ozljeda uzrokovanih opeklinama. U četiri slučaja uzrok smrti nije se mogao utvrditi, a tijela 30 osoba nikada nisu pronađena.

Najveća naftna katastrofa na moru dovela do financijskih gubitaka od gotovo dvije milijarde funti, što je danas ekvivalentno iznosu od pet milijardi funti, na što je utjecala i činjenica da je Piper Alpha proizvodila 10 posto nafte u Sjevernom moru.

Istraga je trajala ukupno 180 dana, a kao uzrok nesreće navedeno je neadekvatno održavanje i sigurnosne procedure od strane Occidentala. Međutim, optužnica nije podignuta.

U Aberdeenu je kod Crkva svetog Nikole u spomen na umrle posvećena kapelica, u kojoj se nalazi i Knjiga sjećanja. Memorijalna skulptura nalazi se u vrtu ruža u parku Hazlehead, piše Pomorac.hr.

Prije 35 godina dogodila se najveća nesreća u povijesti offshore industrije, koja je svijetu otvorila oči po pitanju opasnosti rada u ovoj industriji. Bila je to nesreća na naftnoj platformi Piper Alpha, koja je 6. srpnja 1988. godine u smrt odnijela 167 ljudi.

Bio je to tek jedan običan radni dan za 226 radnika i članova posade Piper Alpha, naftne platforme koja se nalazila u Sjevernom moru, oko 120 milja sjeveroistočno od Aberdeena u Škotskoj, piše Pomorac.hr.

Platforma, kojom je upravljao Occidental Petroleum, nalazila se na naftnom polju Piper Alpha, otkrivenom u siječnju 1973. godine. Bilo je to jedno od prvih nalazišta ugljikovodika iskorištenih na Sjevernom moru, a proizvodnja nafte započela je u rekordnom roku, već u prosincu 1976. godine, manje od četiri godine nakon otkrića. Nafta se izvozila podmorskom cjevovodima u rafineriju na otoku Flotta.

Kasno navečer 6. srpnja 1988. godine, platformom Piper Alpha se prolomio niz eksplozija. Prva eksplozija dogodila se oko 22 sata, a svjedoci su začuli jaku buku nakon koje je uslijedila eksplozija. Gusti crni dim obavio je platformu, a nakon prve uslijedio je niz manjih eksplozija.

Dvadeset minuta kasnije, oko 22:20, došlo je do još jedne velike eksplozije na visokotlačnom plinovodu koji je bio povezan s Texacovom platformom Tartan. Zapaljeni plin sukljao je iz plinovoda, pri čemu se oslobodila golema količina toplinske energije.

Nešto prije 23 sata, još jedna velika eksplozija dogodila se na Totalovom plinovodu, pri čemu je uništeno brzo spasilačko plovilo lansirano sa standby broda Sandhaven. Poginula su dva od ukupno tri člana posade te šest ljudi koji su upravo bili spašeni iz mora.

Intenzivni požari i eksplozije toliko su oslabili strukturu Piper Alphe da su se gornji dijelovi platforme počeli urušavati oko 23:20 sati, zbog čega su brojni članovi posade u panici počeli skakati u more. Glavni smještajni modul na četiri kata, u kojoj se sklonila najmanje 81 osoba, skliznuo je u more. Svi koji su bili unutra su poginuli.

Do ranog jutra idućeg dana, 7. srpnja 1988. godine, tri četvrtine gornje strukture platforme i značajan dio konstrukcije uništen je i potonuo na morskom dno, 140 metara ispod površine mora.

Gašenje požara trajalo je više od tri tjedna. Ostaci Piper Alphe koji su ostali stajati iznad površine srušeni su u more 28. ožujka 1989. godine.

Od 226 osoba koje su se te noći nalazile na brodu, samo je 61 preživjela. Ukupno je poginulo 167 osoba, od čega je 109 umrlo zbog udisanja dima, 13 se utopilo, a 11 je poginulo od ozljeda uzrokovanih opeklinama. U četiri slučaja uzrok smrti nije se mogao utvrditi, a tijela 30 osoba nikada nisu pronađena.

Najveća naftna katastrofa na moru dovela do financijskih gubitaka od gotovo dvije milijarde funti, što je danas ekvivalentno iznosu od pet milijardi funti, na što je utjecala i činjenica da je Piper Alpha proizvodila 10 posto nafte u Sjevernom moru.

Istraga je trajala ukupno 180 dana, a kao uzrok nesreće navedeno je neadekvatno održavanje i sigurnosne procedure od strane Occidentala. Međutim, optužnica nije podignuta.

U Aberdeenu je kod Crkva svetog Nikole u spomen na umrle posvećena kapelica, u kojoj se nalazi i Knjiga sjećanja. Memorijalna skulptura nalazi se u vrtu ruža u parku Hazlehead, piše Pomorac.hr.

Prije 35 godina dogodila se najveća nesreća u povijesti offshore industrije, koja je svijetu otvorila oči po pitanju opasnosti rada u ovoj industriji. Bila je to nesreća na naftnoj platformi Piper Alpha, koja je 6. srpnja 1988. godine u smrt odnijela 167 ljudi.
