Opće je poznato da je Drugi svjetski rat bio najsuroviji vojni sukob u povijesti čovječanstva. Ipak, neke epizode iz tog nesretnog vremena izazivaju nevjericu i danas. Jedna od njih je i američka operacija nazvana Meetinghouse. Izvedena je sa zapaljivim bombama, a u njoj je sudjelovalo više od 300 američkih bombardera B-29, s više od 1500 tona zapaljivih bombi. U tom je napadu procjenjuje se poginulo 100 000 Japanaca, a prema nekim računicama moguće i da je broj žrtava bio i za 50 posto veći. Broj stradalih je bio veći u odnosu na broj žrtava atomskih bombi koje su bačene na Japan nešto kasnije, piše Bljesak.info.

Upravo je general LeMay odlučio da se 9. ožujka 1945., avioni oslobode svakog nepotrebnog tereta kako bi zračni napad bio učinkovitiji. Ta je mjera omogućila da se u avione ukrca duplo više bombi. U Tokiju nisu postojala skloništa za zračne napade jer su vlasti smatrale da će to naštetiti moralu stanovništva. Sirena se oglasila u Tokiju već u 22 i 30, no uspavani stanovnici grada nisu se uglavnom na to osvrtali.

Tokio je do tog trenutka samo pretrpio jedno manje bombardiranje noću pa se stanovnici glavnog grada nisu previše uzrujavali. Kada je napad počeo, oko jedan sat po ponoći, pokazalo se da grad i uopće infrastruktura nisu spremni za suočavanje s onim što je uslijedilo. Napadi su trajali do oko tri sata ujutro. U tom je razdoblju ispušteno oko pola milijuna bombi. U osnovi bio je to pakleni napad na civile jer su vojno sposobni ljudi bili mobilizirani i na dužnosti izvan grada.

Piloti su u svojim izvještajima naveli da su prilikom ispuštanja bombi osjećali miris izgorenih ljudskih tijela. Napadi su nastavljeni nakon toga 14. i 18. travnja te 24. i 26. svibnja. U prvoj noći bilo je uništen najveći dio grada. Bombardirani su i gradovi Nagoya, Osaka i drugi. Ovaj su napad, poslijeratni vojni analitičari proglasili ratnim zločinom protiv čovječnosti jer se ciljano išlo na uništavanje ljudskih života i to onih civilnih.

Jedna od njih je i američka operacija nazvana Meetinghouse. Izvedena je sa zapaljivim bombama, a u njoj je sudjelovalo više od 300 američkih bombardera B-29, s više od 1500 tona zapaljivih bombi. U tom je napadu procjenjuje se poginulo 100 000 Japanaca, a prema nekim računicama moguće i da je broj žrtava bio i za 50 posto veći. Broj stradalih je bio veći u odnosu na broj žrtava atomskih bombi koje su bačene na Japan nešto kasnije, piše Bljesak.info.

Upravo je general LeMay odlučio da se 9. ožujka 1945., avioni oslobode svakog nepotrebnog tereta kako bi zračni napad bio učinkovitiji. Ta je mjera omogućila da se u avione ukrca duplo više bombi. U Tokiju nisu postojala skloništa za zračne napade jer su vlasti smatrale da će to naštetiti moralu stanovništva. Sirena se oglasila u Tokiju već u 22 i 30, no uspavani stanovnici grada nisu se uglavnom na to osvrtali.

Tokio je do tog trenutka samo pretrpio jedno manje bombardiranje noću pa se stanovnici glavnog grada nisu previše uzrujavali. Kada je napad počeo, oko jedan sat po ponoći, pokazalo se da grad i uopće infrastruktura nisu spremni za suočavanje s onim što je uslijedilo. Napadi su trajali do oko tri sata ujutro. U tom je razdoblju ispušteno oko pola milijuna bombi. U osnovi bio je to pakleni napad na civile jer su vojno sposobni ljudi bili mobilizirani i na dužnosti izvan grada.

Piloti su u svojim izvještajima naveli da su prilikom ispuštanja bombi osjećali miris izgorenih ljudskih tijela. Napadi su nastavljeni nakon toga 14. i 18. travnja te 24. i 26. svibnja. U prvoj noći bilo je uništen najveći dio grada. Bombardirani su i gradovi Nagoya, Osaka i drugi. Ovaj su napad, poslijeratni vojni analitičari proglasili ratnim zločinom protiv čovječnosti jer se ciljano išlo na uništavanje ljudskih života i to onih civilnih.
