Jučer je bilo sedamdeset devet godina od Rimskih ugovora, kojima je Ante Pavelić sve velike dalmatinske gradove i otoke, velike dijelove Hrvatskog primorja i Gorskog kotara prepustio fašističkoj Italiji. Široko je rašireno vjerovanje kako je to bio izdajnički čin bez presedana u našoj historiji, u kojoj inače ne manjka svakakvih izdajnika.

Ako dopustite, takva je interpretacija ovoga događaja glupa. Iz dva razloga.

Pod jedan, kad se kaže da je Pavelić dijelove hrvatske zemlje dao Mussoliniju, to bi valjda značilo da su ti dijelovi prethodno bili pod Pavelićevim čvrstim nadzorom, da su ustaše prije potpisivanja Rimskih ugovora pjevajući marširali splitskim ulicama, da su ustaški činovnici ubirali poreze od zadarskih obrtnika i trgovaca, izdavali dozvole za sječu bukava oko Delnica, izlov plave ribe u Kvarnerskom zaljevu i sve drugo za što je vlast nadležna.

Pavelić i njegovi, međutim, ništa od toga nisu činili. Njih tu nije ni bilo. U cijeloj povijesti svoga pokreta ustaše ni političkom borbom ni vojnim osvajanjima baš ništa nisu stekli. Do proljeća četrdeset prve bili su tragikomično neuspješni politički marginalci bez ugleda i novca, bez zemlje, gologuzi i gladni zamazanci u progonstvu, u logoru na jednom otoku nedaleko od Sicilije.

Ante Pavelić bio je nitko i ništa i samo zahvaljujući fašistima je postao netko i nešto. Kazati da je on nešto dao Italiji, nema veze s pameću. Rimskim je ugovorima zapravo Mussolini nagradio Pavelića, dao mu sve što će taj bezveznjak ikada imati.

Da se Pavelić samo usudio pomisliti ne potpisati kako Split i Rijeka pripadaju Italiji, u trenutku bi nestalo čitave NDH. Iščezao bi barjak na Drini, Jure i Boban, Poglavnikov tjelesni zdrug, Krugovalna postaja Zagreb i bogato ukrašena sjekirica Slavka Kvaternika s drškom od ebanovine. Mussolini bi sve to smjesta otkazao, ostrugao bi ustašku državu kao govno s potplata.
I to za nas vjerojatno ne bi bilo gore od onoga što je uslijedilo.

Prije nego krenete naricati da su Split i Rijeka završili u fašističkoj Italiji, razmislite, možda bi više trebalo žaliti stanovnike Zagreba, Karlovca, Siska, Varaždina i Osijeka, koji su bili pod ustaškom, takozvanom hrvatskom vlašću. Jer, vidite, premda je fašistička Italija bila jedna krvava diktatura u kojoj su batinali i vješali političke neprijatelje, za mnoge je bila riječ o ozbiljnijoj državi i ugodnijem mjestu za život od NDH.

Eto, na primjer, hrvatski Židovi koji su preživjeli to strašno vrijeme većinom su se spasili bijegom iz Zagreba i Karlovca u talijansku okupacijsku zonu. Kakvi god zločinci i koljači bili, talijanski fašisti ipak nisu držali ništa nalik Auschwitzu, nisu težili maljevima, noževima, strojnim puškama, plinskim komorama, teškim radom i izgladnjivanjem istrebljivati čitave etničke skupine.

Manje je poznat podatak da je u Italiji u Drugom svjetskom ratu ubijeno šesnaest posto židovskog stanovništva, zapanjujuće malo prema razmjerima genocida u Francuskoj i Nizozemska, a i tih šesnaest posto su stradali istom kad je došla njemačka vlast, nakon kapitulacije Mussolinijeva režima u rujnu četrdeset treće.

To je drugi razlog zbog kojega Rimske ugovore ne treba nužno doživjeti kao izdaju naših narodnih interesa. Gledajte to ovako, Rimskim ugovorima jedan je dio ove zemlje na neko vrijeme bio spašen od zla holokausta. Zaista, nijedan ratni zločin u talijanskoj okupacijskoj zoni ne može se mjeriti s ustaškim užasima poput Jasenovca i Stare Gradiške.

Bilo je, istina, neugodno kad bi fašistička vlast uhapsila nekog dalmatinskog komunističkog simpatizera pa ga izbatinala i nalila ricinusovim uljem, ali nevoljnik bi nesumnjivo gore prošao da je dopao šaka Vjekoslavu Luburiću.

Sve u svemu, nakon sedamdeset devet godina mogli bismo zaključiti kako Rimski ugovori možda i nisu bili tragedija kakva se čini. Zlo koje su tuđinci napravili nije veće od zla koje smo otrpjeli od svojih.

Jučer je bilo sedamdeset devet godina od Rimskih ugovora, kojima je Ante Pavelić sve velike dalmatinske gradove i otoke, velike dijelove Hrvatskog primorja i Gorskog kotara prepustio fašističkoj Italiji. Široko je rašireno vjerovanje kako je to bio izdajnički čin bez presedana u našoj historiji, u kojoj inače ne manjka svakakvih izdajnika.

Ako dopustite, takva je interpretacija ovoga događaja glupa. Iz dva razloga.

Pod jedan, kad se kaže da je Pavelić dijelove hrvatske zemlje dao Mussoliniju, to bi valjda značilo da su ti dijelovi prethodno bili pod Pavelićevim čvrstim nadzorom, da su ustaše prije potpisivanja Rimskih ugovora pjevajući marširali splitskim ulicama, da su ustaški činovnici ubirali poreze od zadarskih obrtnika i trgovaca, izdavali dozvole za sječu bukava oko Delnica, izlov plave ribe u Kvarnerskom zaljevu i sve drugo za što je vlast nadležna.

Pavelić i njegovi, međutim, ništa od toga nisu činili. Njih tu nije ni bilo. U cijeloj povijesti svoga pokreta ustaše ni političkom borbom ni vojnim osvajanjima baš ništa nisu stekli. Do proljeća četrdeset prve bili su tragikomično neuspješni politički marginalci bez ugleda i novca, bez zemlje, gologuzi i gladni zamazanci u progonstvu, u logoru na jednom otoku nedaleko od Sicilije.

Ante Pavelić bio je nitko i ništa i samo zahvaljujući fašistima je postao netko i nešto. Kazati da je on nešto dao Italiji, nema veze s pameću. Rimskim je ugovorima zapravo Mussolini nagradio Pavelića, dao mu sve što će taj bezveznjak ikada imati.

Da se Pavelić samo usudio pomisliti ne potpisati kako Split i Rijeka pripadaju Italiji, u trenutku bi nestalo čitave NDH. Iščezao bi barjak na Drini, Jure i Boban, Poglavnikov tjelesni zdrug, Krugovalna postaja Zagreb i bogato ukrašena sjekirica Slavka Kvaternika s drškom od ebanovine. Mussolini bi sve to smjesta otkazao, ostrugao bi ustašku državu kao govno s potplata.
I to za nas vjerojatno ne bi bilo gore od onoga što je uslijedilo.

Prije nego krenete naricati da su Split i Rijeka završili u fašističkoj Italiji, razmislite, možda bi više trebalo žaliti stanovnike Zagreba, Karlovca, Siska, Varaždina i Osijeka, koji su bili pod ustaškom, takozvanom hrvatskom vlašću. Jer, vidite, premda je fašistička Italija bila jedna krvava diktatura u kojoj su batinali i vješali političke neprijatelje, za mnoge je bila riječ o ozbiljnijoj državi i ugodnijem mjestu za život od NDH.

Eto, na primjer, hrvatski Židovi koji su preživjeli to strašno vrijeme većinom su se spasili bijegom iz Zagreba i Karlovca u talijansku okupacijsku zonu. Kakvi god zločinci i koljači bili, talijanski fašisti ipak nisu držali ništa nalik Auschwitzu, nisu težili maljevima, noževima, strojnim puškama, plinskim komorama, teškim radom i izgladnjivanjem istrebljivati čitave etničke skupine.

Manje je poznat podatak da je u Italiji u Drugom svjetskom ratu ubijeno šesnaest posto židovskog stanovništva, zapanjujuće malo prema razmjerima genocida u Francuskoj i Nizozemska, a i tih šesnaest posto su stradali istom kad je došla njemačka vlast, nakon kapitulacije Mussolinijeva režima u rujnu četrdeset treće.

To je drugi razlog zbog kojega Rimske ugovore ne treba nužno doživjeti kao izdaju naših narodnih interesa. Gledajte to ovako, Rimskim ugovorima jedan je dio ove zemlje na neko vrijeme bio spašen od zla holokausta. Zaista, nijedan ratni zločin u talijanskoj okupacijskoj zoni ne može se mjeriti s ustaškim užasima poput Jasenovca i Stare Gradiške.

Bilo je, istina, neugodno kad bi fašistička vlast uhapsila nekog dalmatinskog komunističkog simpatizera pa ga izbatinala i nalila ricinusovim uljem, ali nevoljnik bi nesumnjivo gore prošao da je dopao šaka Vjekoslavu Luburiću.

Sve u svemu, nakon sedamdeset devet godina mogli bismo zaključiti kako Rimski ugovori možda i nisu bili tragedija kakva se čini. Zlo koje su tuđinci napravili nije veće od zla koje smo otrpjeli od svojih.

Jučer je bilo sedamdeset devet godina od Rimskih ugovora, kojima je Ante Pavelić sve velike dalmatinske gradove i otoke, velike dijelove Hrvatskog primorja i Gorskog kotara prepustio fašističkoj Italiji. Široko je rašireno vjerovanje kako je to bio izdajnički čin bez presedana u našoj historiji, u kojoj inače ne manjka svakakvih izdajnika.

Ako dopustite, takva je interpretacija ovoga događaja glupa. Iz dva razloga.

Pod jedan, kad se kaže da je Pavelić dijelove hrvatske zemlje dao Mussoliniju, to bi valjda značilo da su ti dijelovi prethodno bili pod Pavelićevim čvrstim nadzorom, da su ustaše prije potpisivanja Rimskih ugovora pjevajući marširali splitskim ulicama, da su ustaški činovnici ubirali poreze od zadarskih obrtnika i trgovaca, izdavali dozvole za sječu...
