SAD i Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo pate od ‘epidemije‘ raka grla - a stručnjaci ističu da je krivac - oralni seks, piše Jutarnji list.
Dr. Hisham Mehanna, s britanskog Sveučilišta u Birminghamu, ističe da je 70 posto slučajeva raka grla uzrokovano humanim papilomavirusom (HPV), virusom koji se širi spolnim putem i povezuje se s više oblika raka.
Dr. Mehanna je rekla da ljudi s više partnera s kojima prakticiraju oralni seks imaju do devet puta veći rizik od raka grla.
‘Tijekom posljednja dva desetljeća došlo je do naglog porasta raka grla na zapadu, do te mjere da su to neki nazvali epidemijom. To je zbog velikog porasta specifične vrste raka grla koji se zove rak orofaringeusa‘, napisala je Dr. Mehanna u časopisu The Conversation.
Rak orofaringeusa najčešći je tip raka grla, a pojavljuje se na krajnicima i stražnjem dijelu grla.
Liječnici HPV infekciju smatraju najvećim čimbenikom rizika za razvoj bolesti.
‘HPV se prenosi spolnim putem. Za rak orofaringeusa, glavni čimbenik rizika je broj seksualnih partnera. Oni sa šest ili više životnih partnera s kojima prakticiraju oralni seks imaju 8,5 puta veću vjerojatnost da će razviti orofaringealni rak od onih koji ne prakticiraju oralni seks‘, napominje Dr. Mehanna.
Svake godine u SAD-u se dijagnosticira više od 50.000 slučajeva raka usne šupljine ili ždrijela, što uzrokuje više od 10.000 smrtnih slučajeva godišnje.
Međutim, broj slučajeva raste, do 1,3 posto godišnje u žena i 2,8 posto u muškaraca, prema Američkom društvu za karcinom.
Liječnici su otkrili da je oralni seks najveći faktor rizika - ispred pušenja, konzumacije alkohola i nezdrave prehrane.+
To je zato što djelovanje može dovesti do HPV infekcije u stražnjem dijelu grla ili blizu krajnika. Te infekcije u većini slučajeva prolaze same od sebe, ali ponekad mogu potrajati i uzrokovati rak.
Znanstvenici s NYU Langone procjenjuju da je čak 70 posto slučajeva raka grla uzrokovano HPV infekcijama.
U Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, rak glave i vrata zajedno odgovoran je za više od 12.000 slučajeva oboljelih i 4000 smrtnih slučajeva godišnje.
Za HPV postoji cjepivo. Učinkovit je više od 80 posto i dostupan je u većem dijelu razvijenog svijeta, piše Jutarnji list.

SAD i Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo pate od ‘epidemije‘ raka grla - a stručnjaci ističu da je krivac - oralni seks, piše Jutarnji list.
Dr. Hisham Mehanna, s britanskog Sveučilišta u Birminghamu, ističe da je 70 posto slučajeva raka grla uzrokovano humanim papilomavirusom (HPV), virusom koji se širi spolnim putem i povezuje se s više oblika raka.
Dr. Mehanna je rekla da ljudi s više partnera s kojima prakticiraju oralni seks imaju do devet puta veći rizik od raka grla.
‘Tijekom posljednja dva desetljeća došlo je do naglog porasta raka grla na zapadu, do te mjere da su to neki nazvali epidemijom. To je zbog velikog porasta specifične vrste raka grla koji se zove rak orofaringeusa‘, napisala je Dr. Mehanna u časopisu The Conversation.
Rak orofaringeusa najčešći je tip raka grla, a pojavljuje se na krajnicima i stražnjem dijelu grla.
Liječnici HPV infekciju smatraju najvećim čimbenikom rizika za razvoj bolesti.
‘HPV se prenosi spolnim putem. Za rak orofaringeusa, glavni čimbenik rizika je broj seksualnih partnera. Oni sa šest ili više životnih partnera s kojima prakticiraju oralni seks imaju 8,5 puta veću vjerojatnost da će razviti orofaringealni rak od onih koji ne prakticiraju oralni seks‘, napominje Dr. Mehanna.
Svake godine u SAD-u se dijagnosticira više od 50.000 slučajeva raka usne šupljine ili ždrijela, što uzrokuje više od 10.000 smrtnih slučajeva godišnje.
Međutim, broj slučajeva raste, do 1,3 posto godišnje u žena i 2,8 posto u muškaraca, prema Američkom društvu za karcinom.
Liječnici su otkrili da je oralni seks najveći faktor rizika - ispred pušenja, konzumacije alkohola i nezdrave prehrane.+
To je zato što djelovanje može dovesti do HPV infekcije u stražnjem dijelu grla ili blizu krajnika. Te infekcije u većini slučajeva prolaze same od sebe, ali ponekad mogu potrajati i uzrokovati rak.
Znanstvenici s NYU Langone procjenjuju da je čak 70 posto slučajeva raka grla uzrokovano HPV infekcijama.
U Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, rak glave i vrata zajedno odgovoran je za više od 12.000 slučajeva oboljelih i 4000 smrtnih slučajeva godišnje.
Za HPV postoji cjepivo. Učinkovit je više od 80 posto i dostupan je u većem dijelu razvijenog svijeta, piše Jutarnji list.
