Jedan od mitova vezanih za marhuanu je: «Pušenje marihuane nije opasno». Štetno djelovanje marihuane općenito je dobro poznato, dokumentirano i potvrđeno pravilima "medicine zasnovane na dokazima" ("evidence based medicine"). S druge strane pušenje bilo čega je potencijalno opasno jer nosi rizik za dišne organe, navodi Matija Čale Mratović, dr.med., specijalist školske medicine u svom tekstu za Zavod za javno zdravstvo Dubrovačko neretvanske županije.

Marihuana u usporedbi s cigaretama ima do 70% više kancerogena. Pušači marihuane konzumiraju manji broj cigareta, ali zato udišu dublje i dulje, a udahnuti dim zadržavaju dulje u plućima. To je razlog zašto je u eksperimentima dokazana četiri do pet puta veća količina katrana i adsorpcija ugljičnog monoksida kod pušenja marihuane nego kod pušenja cigareta. Dokazano je štetno djelovanje na pogoršanje respiratornih simptoma i češći razvoj kroničnog bronhitisa kod konzumenata koji dugo konzumiraju marihuanu.

THC (delta 9-tetrahidrokanabinol) je glavni aktivni sastojak marihuane koji se prvenstveno nakuplja u masnim stanicama tijela. U mozgu se vezuje za specifične receptore poznate kao kanabinoidne receptore. Kako se velik broj ovih receptora nalazi u dijelu mozga koji je odgovoran za pamćenje, mišljenje, koncentraciju, koordinaciju pokreta i opažanje vremena i prostora, konzumiranje marihuane negativno utječe upravo na navedene funkcije. Kao i druge droge THC stimulira mozak na oslobađanje dopamina. Dopamin zatim aktivira dio mozga koji je odgovoran za osjećaj zadovoljstva. Nakon prvobitne euforije nastupa osjećaj pospanosti ili depresije.

Ostali simptomi koje THC izaziva su smijeh, promijenjeno opažanje vremena i povećani apetit. Kod nekih može izazvati anksioznost, osjećaj straha, nepovjerenja ili panike, a kod većih doza i akutnu psihotičnu reakciju. Posljedice konzumiranja marihuane traju i nakon što je marihuana razgrađena u tijelu i manifestiraju se kao teškoće pamćenja i smanjena sposobnost učenja te poremećaj sna.

Dugotrajne posljedice (usljed kumulativnog djelovanja ili kronične zlouporabe) su ovisnost, kronični kašalj i bronhitis, povećan rizik od razvoja shizofrenije i drugih psihoza ili pogoršanje simptoma kod osoba s već razvijenom psihozom, povećan rizik od razvoja suicidalnih ideja i pokušaja, razvoj anksioznosti, depresije i amotivacijskog sindroma.

Često i redovito uzimanje marihuane dovodi do zanemarivanja obaveza u školi i kod kuće, slabljenja uspjeha u školi, zanemarivanja izgleda. Kod takvih korisnika mogu se javiti i tzv. "rupe u pamćenju". Osoba se ne može sjetiti što se jučer dogodilo, što je upravo htjela reći i sl. U trudnoći marihuana može značajno utjecati na rast i razvoj još nerođenog dijeteta. Zanimljiv je podatak kako u zemljama gdje je uporaba marihuane legalna, među djecom i mladima je povećan i rizik za akutne respiratorne probleme i nesreće uzrokovane predoziranjem.

Iako nas nerijetko zbunjuju kontroverzni zaključci različitih istraživanja, reći da pušenje marihuane ne nosi rizik znači ignorirati stvarnost. Konzumiranje marihuane utječe na razvoj mozga i kada se od rane dobi konzumira u značajnoj količini, oštećenje pamćenja i mišljenja može imati dugotrajne posljedice.

Zanimljivo je spomenuti da se čak i organizacije - zagovarači marihuane u SAD-u, također slažu s tvrdnjom da mladi ljudi ne bi smjeli imati pristup ovoj drogi, koja kao i ostale droge utječe na moždane funkcije. Mladi ljudi su još u fazi rasta, učenja, tjelesnog, psihičkog, emocionalnog i duhovnog razvoja, a svaka droga utječe na ovaj razvoj na negativan način. S ovom tvrdnjom slaže se čak i Organizacija za opoziv zakona o marihuani, jedna od najjačih organizacija zagovarača konzumiranja marihuane u SAD-u, koja također kaže: «Marihuana nije za mlade ljude».

Jedan od mitova vezanih za marhuanu je: «Pušenje marihuane nije opasno». Štetno djelovanje marihuane općenito je dobro poznato, dokumentirano i potvrđeno pravilima "medicine zasnovane na dokazima" ("evidence based medicine"). S druge strane pušenje bilo čega je potencijalno opasno jer nosi rizik za dišne organe, navodi Matija Čale Mratović, dr.med., specijalist školske medicine u svom tekstu za Zavod za javno zdravstvo Dubrovačko neretvanske županije.

Marihuana u usporedbi s cigaretama ima do 70% više kancerogena. Pušači marihuane konzumiraju manji broj cigareta, ali zato udišu dublje i dulje, a udahnuti dim zadržavaju dulje u plućima. To je razlog zašto je u eksperimentima dokazana četiri do pet puta veća količina katrana i adsorpcija ugljičnog monoksida kod pušenja marihuane nego kod pušenja cigareta. Dokazano je štetno djelovanje na pogoršanje respiratornih simptoma i češći razvoj kroničnog bronhitisa kod konzumenata koji dugo konzumiraju marihuanu.

THC (delta 9-tetrahidrokanabinol) je glavni aktivni sastojak marihuane koji se prvenstveno nakuplja u masnim stanicama tijela. U mozgu se vezuje za specifične receptore poznate kao kanabinoidne receptore. Kako se velik broj ovih receptora nalazi u dijelu mozga koji je odgovoran za pamćenje, mišljenje, koncentraciju, koordinaciju pokreta i opažanje vremena i prostora, konzumiranje marihuane negativno utječe upravo na navedene funkcije. Kao i druge droge THC stimulira mozak na oslobađanje dopamina. Dopamin zatim aktivira dio mozga koji je odgovoran za osjećaj zadovoljstva. Nakon prvobitne euforije nastupa osjećaj pospanosti ili depresije.

Ostali simptomi koje THC izaziva su smijeh, promijenjeno opažanje vremena i povećani apetit. Kod nekih može izazvati anksioznost, osjećaj straha, nepovjerenja ili panike, a kod većih doza i akutnu psihotičnu reakciju. Posljedice konzumiranja marihuane traju i nakon što je marihuana razgrađena u tijelu i manifestiraju se kao teškoće pamćenja i smanjena sposobnost učenja te poremećaj sna.

Dugotrajne posljedice (usljed kumulativnog djelovanja ili kronične zlouporabe) su ovisnost, kronični kašalj i bronhitis, povećan rizik od razvoja shizofrenije i drugih psihoza ili pogoršanje simptoma kod osoba s već razvijenom psihozom, povećan rizik od razvoja suicidalnih ideja i pokušaja, razvoj anksioznosti, depresije i amotivacijskog sindroma.

Često i redovito uzimanje marihuane dovodi do zanemarivanja obaveza u školi i kod kuće, slabljenja uspjeha u školi, zanemarivanja izgleda. Kod takvih korisnika mogu se javiti i tzv. "rupe u pamćenju". Osoba se ne može sjetiti što se jučer dogodilo, što je upravo htjela reći i sl. U trudnoći marihuana može značajno utjecati na rast i razvoj još nerođenog dijeteta. Zanimljiv je podatak kako u zemljama gdje je uporaba marihuane legalna, među djecom i mladima je povećan i rizik za akutne respiratorne probleme i nesreće uzrokovane predoziranjem.

Iako nas nerijetko zbunjuju kontroverzni zaključci različitih istraživanja, reći da pušenje marihuane ne nosi rizik znači ignorirati stvarnost. Konzumiranje marihuane utječe na razvoj mozga i kada se od rane dobi konzumira u značajnoj količini, oštećenje pamćenja i mišljenja može imati dugotrajne posljedice.

Zanimljivo je spomenuti da se čak i organizacije - zagovarači marihuane u SAD-u, također slažu s tvrdnjom da mladi ljudi ne bi smjeli imati pristup ovoj drogi, koja kao i ostale droge utječe na moždane funkcije. Mladi ljudi su još u fazi rasta, učenja, tjelesnog, psihičkog, emocionalnog i duhovnog razvoja, a svaka droga utječe na ovaj razvoj na negativan način. S ovom tvrdnjom slaže se čak i Organizacija za opoziv zakona o marihuani, jedna od najjačih organizacija zagovarača konzumiranja marihuane u SAD-u, koja također kaže: «Marihuana nije za mlade ljude».
