Filmčina do filmčine takoreći. Nisku upotpunjavaju i pozlaćuju "Valovi", napokon dostupni i u hrvatskoj "online" videoteci. "Waves" je treći film darovitog "indie" filmaša Treya Edwarda Shultsa ("Krisha", "It Comes At Night"), čiji su prethodnici također nastali unutar A24.

Shultsov talent je naprosto eksplodirao u "Valovima", drami koja, kao i "Posljednji crnac u San Franciscu", čak i više, baštini ono najbolje od američkog nezavisnog filma, povezujući njegove suprotne polove, melodramskog oskarovca Barryja Jenkinsa ("Mjesečina") i energične vizualiste poput Harmonyja Korinea ("Spring Breakers: Proljetno ludilo") i Gaspara Noea ("Klimaks"). Suprotnosti se privlače i privlače gledatelja Shultsovu filmu zavodljive dramatike i estetike, pravoj eksploziji emocija i stilizacija.
Redatelj uspijeva povezati nepovezivo, autentične osjećaje likova i hiperstilizirane boje vječnog floridskog ljeta, načiniti da film bude istovremeno meditativan i frenetičan, bolan i divan za gledanje i osjećanje.
Jer, "Waves" je sav u ugođaju i doživljaju, čulno iskustvo, jedan od onih filmova koji se gleda i osjeća, udara na sva osjetila, ne samo preko fotografije Shultsova stalnog snimatelja Drewa Danielsa ("Euforija") potencirane vibrantnim filterima i jarkim svjetlima, već i glazbe sjajnog dvojca Trent Reznor-Atticus Ross ("Društvena mreža", "Nestala").
Vidjeli smo izvrsne (obiteljske/karakterne/socijalne) drame o povezanosti ljudske prirode, ljubavi, gubitku, oprostu, iskupljenju, ali Shults uspijeva biti distinktivan, osvježiti dramsku matricu strukturalno i stilski te napraviti nešto poput opere. Film osvaja magnetizmom već od prvih kadrova vožnje biciklom i suncem kako prodire kroz krošnje i vijoreću kosu djevojke za pedalama.
Prilikom iduće vožnje, vožnje automobilom, kamera se vrti ukrug između vozača i suvozačice. Oni su hrvač u usponu Tyler (Harrison Jr) i njegova djevojka Alexis (Alexa Demie), mladi, sretni i zaljubljeni, još u srednjoj školi. Euforija mladenačke bezbrižnosti odvrnuta je na najjače, kao u njihovom večernjem izlasku što slijedi.
Premda, ispod površine žubore brige svijeta koji "ne mari ni za tebe ni za mene", kako Tyleru govori strogi, ali pravični otac (karakterno postojani Sterling K. Brown), podrtavajući da prave odgovornosti dolaze kad se osamostališ. Brige će podići valove kad Tyler doživi vrlo ozbiljno istegnuće mišića, na negodovanje oca, da bi nastavio hrvačku sezonu, a Alexis zatrudni.
Stilizacija je minuciozna: boja Alexisičina laka za nokte slaže se sa svjetlima uz more, dok prelijevanje crvenih i tamnoplavih rotirki vozila Hitne pomoći i policijskog automobila, u svrhu oslikavanja taljenja nečije duše, izgleda kao da ne odgovara spektru boja s ovoga svijeta i daje magentu kakvu nije svijetlio ni SF "Color Out Of Space".
Rotirke ukazuju da se nešto dramatično dogodilo. I jest. Preko tog događaja prelama se film, čak i doslovno, neočekivano postajući dramski diptih štafetne naracije. Prelijevanje boja prelijeva film iz jedne priče u drugu koja se bavi reperkusijama i agonijom prethodne, ali iz perspektive Tylerove mlađe sestre Emily (Taylor Russell, otkriće) koja je zaljubljuje u hrvača Lukea (uvijek dobri Lucas Hedges).
"Valovi" nude dva različita filma po cijenu jednoga, pri čemu su oba pojedinačno odlična, a zajedno još bolji. Kad jedan film zamijeni drugi, shvaćamo kako je svaki potez kamerom promišljen, svaka slika oslikana odgovarajućom bojom. Konstantni pokreti jer život ide dalje. Vrtnja ukrug jer priča ostaje unutar obitelji.
Uži format slike, sužen vertikalno, kad Tylera uhvati tjeskoba. Horizontalno sužavanje jer nakon padova slijede usponi. Konačno, tu je i promjena ritma, tj. smirenija druga polovica jer nakon oluje dolazi ili može doći sunce koje se sramežljivo probijalo kroz krožnje u prvoj sceni. Jedan od najboljih filmova 2019. godine. Blizu remek-djela, ako ne i remek-djelo.

A24 je postala najjača američka kompanija za nezavisni film. Pazite samo zlatni niz nezavisnjaka koji se, da spomenemo samo neke, otvaraju logom A24: "Spring Breakers", "Under The Skin", "Locke", "Room", "The VVitch", "American Honey", "Moonlight", "A Ghost Story", "The Florida Project", "Lady Bird", "Eight Grade", "Climax", "Midsommar", "The Farewell", "The Lighthouse"...
Filmčina do filmčine takoreći. Nisku upotpunjavaju i pozlaćuju "Valovi", napokon dostupni i u hrvatskoj "online" videoteci. "Waves" je treći film darovitog "indie" filmaša Treya Edwarda Shultsa ("Krisha", "It Comes At Night"), čiji su prethodnici također nastali unutar A24.

Shultsov talent je naprosto eksplodirao u "Valovima", drami koja, kao i "Posljednji crnac u San Franciscu", čak i više, baštini ono najbolje od američkog nezavisnog filma, povezujući njegove suprotne polove, melodramskog oskarovca Barryja Jenkinsa ("Mjesečina") i energične vizualiste poput Harmonyja Korinea ("Spring Breakers: Proljetno ludilo") i Gaspara Noea ("Klimaks"). Suprotnosti se privlače i privlače gledatelja Shultsovu filmu zavodljive dramatike i estetike, pravoj eksploziji emocija i stilizacija.
Redatelj uspijeva povezati nepovezivo, autentične osjećaje likova i hiperstilizirane boje vječnog floridskog ljeta, načiniti da film bude istovremeno meditativan i frenetičan, bolan i divan za gledanje i osjećanje.
Jer, "Waves" je sav u ugođaju i doživljaju, čulno iskustvo, jedan od onih filmova koji se gleda i osjeća, udara na sva osjetila, ne samo preko fotografije Shultsova stalnog snimatelja Drewa Danielsa ("Euforija") potencirane vibrantnim filterima i jarkim svjetlima, već i glazbe sjajnog dvojca Trent Reznor-Atticus Ross ("Društvena mreža", "Nestala").
Vidjeli smo izvrsne (obiteljske/karakterne/socijalne) drame o povezanosti ljudske prirode, ljubavi, gubitku, oprostu, iskupljenju, ali Shults uspijeva biti distinktivan, osvježiti dramsku matricu strukturalno i stilski te napraviti nešto poput opere. Film osvaja magnetizmom već od prvih kadrova vožnje biciklom i suncem kako prodire kroz krošnje i vijoreću kosu djevojke za pedalama.
Prilikom iduće vožnje, vožnje automobilom, kamera se vrti ukrug između vozača i suvozačice. Oni su hrvač u usponu Tyler (Harrison Jr) i njegova djevojka Alexis (Alexa Demie), mladi, sretni i zaljubljeni, još u srednjoj školi. Euforija mladenačke bezbrižnosti odvrnuta je na najjače, kao u njihovom večernjem izlasku što slijedi.
Premda, ispod površine žubore brige svijeta koji "ne mari ni za tebe ni za mene", kako Tyleru govori strogi, ali pravični otac (karakterno postojani Sterling K. Brown), podrtavajući da prave odgovornosti dolaze kad se osamostališ. Brige će podići valove kad Tyler doživi vrlo ozbiljno istegnuće mišića, na negodovanje oca, da bi nastavio hrvačku sezonu, a Alexis zatrudni.
Stilizacija je minuciozna: boja Alexisičina laka za nokte slaže se sa svjetlima uz more, dok prelijevanje crvenih i tamnoplavih rotirki vozila Hitne pomoći i policijskog automobila, u svrhu oslikavanja taljenja nečije duše, izgleda kao da ne odgovara spektru boja s ovoga svijeta i daje magentu kakvu nije svijetlio ni SF "Color Out Of Space".
Rotirke ukazuju da se nešto dramatično dogodilo. I jest. Preko tog događaja prelama se film, čak i doslovno, neočekivano postajući dramski diptih štafetne naracije. Prelijevanje boja prelijeva film iz jedne priče u drugu koja se bavi reperkusijama i agonijom prethodne, ali iz perspektive Tylerove mlađe sestre Emily (Taylor Russell, otkriće) koja je zaljubljuje u hrvača Lukea (uvijek dobri Lucas Hedges).
"Valovi" nude dva različita filma po cijenu jednoga, pri čemu su oba pojedinačno odlična, a zajedno još bolji. Kad jedan film zamijeni drugi, shvaćamo kako je svaki potez kamerom promišljen, svaka slika oslikana odgovarajućom bojom. Konstantni pokreti jer život ide dalje. Vrtnja ukrug jer priča ostaje unutar obitelji.
Uži format slike, sužen vertikalno, kad Tylera uhvati tjeskoba. Horizontalno sužavanje jer nakon padova slijede usponi. Konačno, tu je i promjena ritma, tj. smirenija druga polovica jer nakon oluje dolazi ili može doći sunce koje se sramežljivo probijalo kroz krožnje u prvoj sceni. Jedan od najboljih filmova 2019. godine. Blizu remek-djela, ako ne i remek-djelo.
